Damascus Steel Products Corp. A Dasco center punch was one of my most used tools, when I started in the steel fab business I was using the center punch I made in Jr. High shop class, after about a hundred thousand whacks I decided to retire it before I messed it up and got a Dasco center punch, never counted but it seems like I used it a million times. Dasco made a ton of stuff back in the day but I mostly know them for chisels, punches and pry bars. Dasco is now owned by Vaughan & Bushnell which recently closed one of their US plants, hope they aren't in too much financial trouble I hate to see more of our US toolmakers going out of business. Great job with the restoration, never seen one of those before.
Thank you so much rawbacon for sharing about your experience. That is great that you have a tool from high school that has stood the test of time. Sounds like you knew what you were doing. Thanks for your visit and hope you have a great week.
Thank you. This configuration does make for a very sturdy chisel. Several others have commented that it was for hogging our wood. The knob on the end would make a good striking point and would someone protect your hand when you’re hitting it hard. Thanks for your visit and hope you have a great week.
These wood chisels are designed more for brute force. Carving notches in joists for pipes is a good example. Crescent had a similar line of chisels. Craftsman also made some all steel chisels for similar purposes.
I so appreciate you sharing this information with all of us. I can see exactly what you’re talking about and how this chisel would fit that bill. Thanks so much for visiting us here in the shop. Hope you have a great week.
I think so too. I did not know this information. Thank you so much for sharing it with us all. So, this could be a bygone tool. Would be interesting to see if there’s anyone else that makes something similar. Hope you have a great week.
@@toolscouter Hey Toolscouter. I restored my little brace chuck just like the one you got recently. I posted a video about it if you want to see what I did with mine.
Thank you. I have since been told that it was for hogging our wood in tight places. The knob on the back would give a good striking surface and would protect the hand to a certain extent. Thanks for your visit and have a great week.
