*This was not a traditional audition for David Gilmour in that, he was already well-known to the band and had actually grown up with them in Cambridge. Saucerful of Secrets has to be my all time favorite Pink Floyd album with Meddle squeaking in as a very close second.

interesting to note that for the rest of 1968 - the band would continue to try the "hit singles" formula that the early hits written by Syd Barrett had made the band famous for - in late 1968 they released the single; "Point Me at the Sky" - sadly, it did not do well and basically led to the band giving up on issuing singles - but the B-side to that failed single was an instrumental track called: "Careful with That Axe, Eugene" - this psychedelic masterpiece by the band - perhaps more than anything else they did in 1968 - really pointed the way forward for the group ..

Yes I made a Point Me at the Sky video in this series on the 28th May :) I like them myself, they are amusing and sort of charming, knowing what the band did later. It sounds if they (the band) completely hate them :)

I'd be willing to bet that Syd had worked on Eugene before leaving as I've heard some demos from around the time and heard music awfully close to Eugene. the music they played on the BBC "look of the week"had Floyd playing green onions and an instrumental that beats some resemblance to the build up in Eugene,no?

Why do people have to colorize everything? The B&W photos are beautiful.

They don't, it's just a different look with more information, I post both b & W and color on different sites--It is a good tool though to reframe the past.
