Agree....I am soooooo. Happy those were the best times. Married a white guy who played organ in a black band. Love it, love it. Wish funk would come back.
You are so right. I love nearly any type of music except country. I grew up in England and Motown was very popular and I had every type of record you could imagine.
@@TI-tl5qq grew up in the UK too,but I love classic country from the 60's and 70's, not the kind of stuff that's called 'country 'today. , You're missing out if you can't appreciate some Johnny,Charlie, George,Loretta, Tammy or Dolly!
Back in the 80s I was in the Army and four of us would go to the Rec Center, which isn't a place that had a basketball court and a weight lifting area, to my surprise it was a music center with about 6 or 7 sound proof rooms along with any musical instrument you could possibly think at our will!! I was, of course, shocked to see. We all went there to shoot some hoops, instead I asked my buddies if any of them could play, they all did! So, for the unbelievable price of $1.00 an hour we picked out Marshall amps, Fender Strats or Gibson Les Paul guitars and a bass. Inside each room was a drum kit. And these drum kits were incredible! I'm talking about 15 to 20 piece drum kits and top notch cymbals! It was nuts! Anyways...I played drums and discovering nobody could sing, I took it among myself to sing. We went on to playing all around Germany at the Armed Forces bases playing in numerous competitions. It was awesome! And yes, it's not easy for everyone who played drums to sing lead at the same time.
Cover of the Temps. This is an edit of a much longer version. Rare Earth was one of the "rare" white acts on Motown. Your wig reminds me you should do a reaction to Billy Preston "Will it Go 'Round in Circles".
"Get Ready" is a Motown song written by Smokey Robinson, which resulted in two hit records for the label: a U.S. #29 version by The Temptations in 1966, and a U.S. #4 version by Rare Earth in 1970.Oct 26, 2013
The Temptations version is great , and the original- but Rare Earth's version is more forceful, and rock in- that is why it became a hit , years later!
The reason Rare Earth got a hold of "Get Ready" is because they were signed to Motown by Berry Gordy. In the early 70's, Gordy was looking to branch out and include white groups and singers among the Motown stable. Rare Earth was the most successful and thus the most famous of those groups. Sitting here right now I can't actually remember any of the other white Motown bands but I remember there were a few.
Anyone else talk to him when he has an "aha" moment? When Jamal aka Jamel says, "Wait wait wait!" I start talking to him like he's here. "YUP! YOU KNOW THIS SONG!" 🖤💖🖤
I start nodding and say something like “yup, you know it”, or if he doesn’t, just before a famous great part hits I smile really big and think: “he has no idea what is coming”...
Jamel, you just don’t know how much joy you bring to me and your other loyal fans. I’m so grateful that you are sharing your musical journey with us all. Much love to you brother, and stay safe!
Carolina , Oh YES WE DID !!!! The "New" Music can't even come close to putting a Shoe on to the Old Music , never mind tie a shoelace !!!! I'm 69 YO, Woodstock Era , I enjoy all Music of My Generation, Rock, Blues, Soul, Motown, and even some Jazz, you name it. The variety..... the fantastic musicians (yeah there are some excellent musicians today too, but it is just DIFFERENT). In fact, I challenged some young people at my place of business (all Pre-COVID of course), to name at least 3 Bands or personal performers for each letter of the alphabet.... They Failed unless....Their Parents introduced them to OUR Music. Allman Brothers to ZZ Top.... Can't be Beat
Yes, that crap they put out today has people too angry and all they want to do is do drugs and shoot someone. I was medically retired in 2018 and from driving for a living and this is one of the songs I loved to pick up in the night when I started feeling lazy behind the wheel.

This is an old Temptation song. This particular song by Rare Earth was a big hit when I was in high school. These guys did "Get Ready" with their own styie and did a real good job of it. Big props to Rare Earth. The song even sounds good today as I'm listening to it at my tender age of 64. LOVE PEACE & MUSIC. they were trying to get the message out.
Get Ready and (I Know) I'm Losing You were both covers of Temptation's songs but Rare Earth's versions were way more successful. Rare Earth was a phenomenal band in the studio and Live and as far as I know still holds the distinction of being the only all-white band signed by MOTOWN Records. They could do fusions of rock, R&B, jazz, had an unmatched stage presence with top musicianship, great vocals and positively dripped funk from every pore. They were a staple for parties when i was in high school back in medieval times 😁(1970-71).
"get ready" was originally done by THE TEMPTATIONS !!!!!!!!!!!! rare earth's "cover" version went as high as number 4 on the billboard charts in 1970-1971 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!,,,,,BOTH VERSIONS are super quality!!!!!!!!!
They sure did put some FUNK into this. This is so DAMN GOOD and the guy playing the drums and singing at the same time. I don't think I ever seen that. I just love this.
Played by the Temptations in 1966 written by Smokey Robinson. I saw Rare Earth in 1972 they open for Sly and the family stone at Madison Square Garden in NYC. Amazing concert from both bands.
Has to be the 11 minute long version of (I Know) I’m Losing You. The radio edit cuts out the best parts of the song! This version: The 11 minute version. (Great organ in this!) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-hINtx2E6y6s.html
This is one of the songs that the Doobie Brothers came out and jammed with them on. I was in the Air Force and 9 of us lived in a house off base in Clovis NM at Cannon AFB and we would all load up in a restored 1956 chevrolet panel truck in lawn chairs and drive the 2 hours to either Lubbock or Amarillo Texas where ever the concerts were and smoke a half a bag of pot on the way. I don't have to tell you that those were the days
Those were the days my friend we thought they’d never end we sing and dance forever and a day we live the life we choose we thought we never lose those were the days oh yes those were the days.
One time i went to White Sands and there were a bunch of people doing donuts in the sand and someone said said, "Oh those are just the guys from the Air Force base."
Rare Earth's "Get Ready" is one of my all time favourite songs. One of my first albums, I think I got it in 1970. I listen to it usually every few months or so. Your review is awesome: you genuinely love the music and the people. It shows.
On the Rare Earth "In Concert" album, the band jams for 20+ minutes on "Get Ready". It is their signature performance. Each player, bass, guitar, sax, congas, takes a turn. That whole album is a blast! And yes, it was my "cruisin'" music in high school
as kids we were Motown addicts.. and Papa was a rollin stone was a firm favourite.. when R E did their version ,, it was ,,, outta site. Thank God I was born at the right time...
This was one of THE most popular songs in that era at the bars, it seemed every garage band had a version that they played. I lived in the Chicago area and I must have heard it a hundred times but it never stopped being exciting. Thanks for this episode ☮️
Eddie Kendricks of Temps did the original hi falsetto vocal. Rare Earth's version is great also. They were on Motown label actually. This drummer was a soulful singer for sure.
My brother introduced me to the Temptations version then my sister introduced me to Rare Earth. They are 14 & 15 years older than me, lol. I'm 60 now and love BOTH renditions.
Peter Rivera had one of the most interesting voices in rock music at the time. The fact he was the drummer of the band on top of that amazing lead vocal is even more cool.
YESSSSSS !!!! Another good one is by a dude named Lee Michaels..."Will you Be Happy or Will You Be Sad"...HE PLAYED THE HELL OUT OF THAT ORGAN !!! A LEGEND !! Another excellent tune is by Brian Auger and The Oblivion Express titled "Happiness is Just 'Round The Bend". It was a song that the R&B group the Stylistics (?) sung AND HE WROTE THE LYRICS.

Written by Smokey Robinson, “Get Ready” was first a hit for the Temptations, in 1966. Rare Earth, who were then known in and around Detroit as the Sunliners, added the song to their concert setlist that same year
Dude, sometime when you're just hangin' out, check out Rare Earth's official version of this song... over 21 minutes. It includes a pretty damn good, and very lengthy, drum solo. It was quite the thing in it's day. Still is.
@@ChrisLawton66 Hi. I checked it out. The long version of Get Ready is 21 minutes, 30 seconds. I decided I should also check out I'm Losing You... another good song. It's right at 11 minutes. Happy 4th

@@ujimajame4601 True! That CCR version of I Heard It Through The Grapevine was an epic 11 plus minutes. I used to recommend this song along with Peter Frampton's Do You Feel Like We Do? be played back to back for my DJ friends to use the restroom so that the music never stopped.
LOL ! Hey man, is this your first "Blue Eyes Soul" experience ? Welcome to my generation, brother ! This was a happening song back in the day, and as you can see, it still holds up very well today. Good choice, and thanks for the memories and playing it !

Temptations did it in the 60s first. Rare Earth (also Motown artists) covered it early 70s. Now go watch Rare Earth do I Just Want To Celebrate, Their Hit!
one of my fav rare earth tunes in a live album full of them. Smokey Robinson wrote and produced it for Motown and the Temps in 66, and Rare Earth covered it amazingly well in 70. Drummer and lead singer is so rare, and especially with so much soul...
I can't tell you how much I enjoy hearing these songs again, and seeing them through another person's eyes. These songs are all welded into my heart and I LOVE them!!!
The Temptations did the song first back in 1966. It was written by Smokey Robinson. 3 years later, Rare Earth did their version of it. It came from their 3rd album called "Get Ready." That song was a live version. What you were hearing was a short version for a 45 record, but there is a long version of that same song that came from that album. Rare Earth signed into Motown back in 1968. In the early 70's, the band also did another Temptation cover version song called "I'm Losing You." Even they did a song that was also a big hit called "I Want to Celebrate."
I think it was 1970 when we were stationed at McConnell AFB in Wichita, Kansas. Coolest youth center of any air force base we ever went to. I remember hearing this song on the jukebox a LOT! Loved it then, and love it now. Never knew the drummer was the lead singer, which adds to the cool factor! Always enjoy your reaction videos... please keep them coming!
Bro im Syrian and swedish. If I let my hair grow out it would look just like that. And Hell yeah the temptations did it first but this is the rock version.
I saw them at The Lake Front Theater in Mandeville, La. They are the only band I saw where the drummer was out front and the rest of the band was behind him. Great show !
Rare Earth is an American soul band affiliated with Motown's Rare Earth record label (named after the band), which overcame racial profiling to prosper in the early 1970s decade. Although not the first white band signed to Motown, Rare Earth was the first big hit-making act signed by Motown that consisted only of white members.
