Am now 67. First heard this song in 1973. Mr. Leigh my high school physics teacher was playing it. In 1975 1st year at Uni I bought this live album in cassette form. Played it all through my years at Uni. Great band and brings back great memories of my undergrad days.
Mine first concert I went to them and the Dobie brothers I will never forget it!!! Pay 5 dollar for mine ticket...whish I could go back to the 70s to hear real music!!! I don't listen to the garbage that out there now
“Let’s get into, I don’t know, 20 or 30 minutes of Get Ready”. My Go to, THE Best intro as I hit the highway for driving the 25 minutes to high school (yes 25 minutes) before a Friday night football game.
I'm 65yrs of age now, I saw them live during this tour, I was only 12 or 13 at the time and this was my 1st live concert! These guys were on fire, even back then..best show ever!
First heard Rare Earth playing this song in 1974 when I was 17. Mr. Leigh my physics teacher was playing it. Got this album and played it all the time while at Uni. Good memories.
Ich mit 15 diese Platte das erste mal gehört sie mir dann auch gekauft heute mit 64 höre ich sie immer wieder gerne was für eine fantastische Gruppe 👏👏👏👏👏
One of the best partying days was with this band at Edgewater Raceway near Cincinnati. Got to be on stage with them. And in the trailer.Wall to wall Heineken Beer bottles. And fine smoke back too in the summer of 1978
Classic rock stations puzzle me. They seem to play the same 10 or 20 bands over and over, but don't play stuff like this. To me, this is real classic rock....
ROCK STATIONS IN THE 70s PLAYED THIS SONG...quite often...I always thought the DJ took a break...had dinner...etc. NOW...it's just about what bands they want to keep in the public eye...even the classic rock stations...if the band isn't touring. It's all about out of sight...out of mind. Nobody looks for 'basement tapes' anymore. They just don't care!!!
Screw Corporate Radio! Bring back real DJ's and 70's FM. Beaker Street on the old KAAY AM and then moved to KLAZ FM. Awesome underground progressive rock and roll.
This has to be my favorite all time song and instrumental of all. Peter Rivera on drums and lead vocals what an outstanding voice he has, the late John Parrish on bass, he's one of my top 5 bassists of all time, Gil bridges on saxophone and flute, Eddie Guzman on congas and percussion, his cave man look was oh so cool, the late Mark Olson on keyboards and last but certainly not least Ray Monette on guitars. What an awesome band. Keep on rocking men as we love your music to the hilt!
I bought this double album in 1972 when I was in 8th grade. I jammed to all 23 minutes of Get Ready. Hey Big Brother. I Just Want to Celebrate. I basically played it so much I wore it out. OMG, the bass, the sax, the bongos; they just don't play music like this any more. Far Friggin Out. Thanks for Posting.
My parents had this record and at the time it was the only Rare Earth song I knew. Imagine 23 minutes of this!! Wow!! Now that I'm a lot older, I appreciate this way more!!
Yeah brother, so did I, same age, same appreciation. I dove into it like I did Yessongs album and Frampton Comes Alive. One of the best live recordings of the time.
san Francisco 1970, I was playing the long version of rare earth and smoking some panama red. wow! what a different world back then. then went in the marines july 1971. and its now 2013 and iam still going strong.
Absolutely phoenominal the entire band, one of the best drummers and bassists in the business Peter Rivera and John Persh, Mark Olson on keyboards, Ray Monette on lead guitar, Gil Bridges on saxophone and flute and last but not least Eddie Guzman on percussion. They all compliment each other with their indivisual talent. It has to be one of my favorite songs and solo instrumentals of all time.
Haven't listened to this is years, man it brought back some fantastic memories. I feel young again. This is music and talent that will never grow old!!!!!
OK!It's Father's Day,June 15,2014.I am outside here in Hamilton,Ontario,Canada, listening to this for the umpteenth time.Man,it's still great, still gets my whole body moving to the groove we had "BACK THEN"!It is still 1 of the best live "records" I ever bought, and still have and play on the old turntable!
One of the greatest live performances of all times... still remember driving my parents crazy turning the music up and me with my ears glued to my speakers to hear the bass better... good memories!

Track listing Side one 1."I Just Want to Celebrate" (Nick Zesses, Dino Fekaris)- 4:40 2."Hey, Big Brother" (Nick Zesses, Dino Fekaris)- 7:26 3."Born to Wander" (Tom Baird)- 4:24 Side two 1."Get Ready" (William "Smokey" Robinson)- 23:33 Side three 1."What'd I Say" (Ray Charles)- 6:31 2."Thoughts" (Gilbert Bridges, Peter Hoorelbeke, Edward Guzman, John Persh, Mark Olson, Raymond Monette)- 10:53 The unedited performance ran close to an hour Side four 1."(I Know) I'm Losing You" (Cornelius Grant, Edward Holland, Jr., Norman Whitfield)- 14:09 2."Nice to Be with You" (Mark Olson, Raymond Monette, Peter Hoorelbeke)- 2:15
I so wish I could have been at this gig. I have played this physical LP and RU-vid recording so many times I’ve lost count. Probably my all time rock cover! The solo guitar riff stands above almost Jimi, and all his peers. Immortal!
Thanks for a stunning performance. I remember seeing you at "Carny Rock" in Kansas City, must've been the spring of '74. Nazareth & Brownsville Station also performed, you guys were the best.
Went to this concert here in Miami in 1971 at the. Miami Marine Stadium..they were recording this double Lp....will never forget...John Persh. And his bass playing talent..and Mark Olson on keyboard...Eddie Guzman was owesome at congas...and of course Pete Rivera on Drums
I just had a flashback. parents basement, filtering through the the last of my weed bag, getting all the damn seeds and stock out so we can roll a decent one..... album comes out, gets put on a Dual, technics, or thorens TT with a shure, empire or stanton cartridge.... sansui receiver set to phono, blacklight poster glimmering in the background, dads homemade wine (that he doesnt know about) in a milk jar, and the evening is getting ready to take on a life of its own.... that sums it up for about 10,000,000 of us in the 70's ................
ok i found these guys in aboyut 1976... i was in highschool, and these guys rocked my world... i mean i couln't get enough of this ablum, i had a math teacher, he would let us bring in music to listen to during study day friday... i would bring this in and everyone always wanted to hear it.... at the day and time... it didn't get any better than this, i only regret never having seen them in concert... i din't get into luive music for another few yrs...
I'm 68 now, in 72, my lil brother introduced me to this, played in my 8track..in a lowrider on the freeway, when ever having a bad day would play it,South Side Pomona brothers love this
So ruddy good and I had this LP in the early 1970's and still listen to it now. A 66 year old drummer and Pete R and the band were just fab. Great double LP.
I'm 40 now. This was the song that introduced me to rock music when I was a little boy. Found my dad's long play hidden in a cabinet and asked my mom to play it on the turntable.
One of my MOTHER'S favorite albums, live or otherwise. NOT a typo. And just by frequent playings, it became one of my all-time favorites as well. Not that I didn't already love the 'studio' version of this track, but MAN!
I was 11 (1971) when my dad brought this home and have loved it every since...Yeah i old now but still love music and dad is still alive and listening to The Hawk in the Bay Area. Rock on old man....
This was my first ever album bought at the age of 12 entirely with my own self-earned cash - mostly from several paper routes! "Get Ready" - one of the best known guitar riffs of all time - luvvittt!! Guaranteed to fill any dance floor or get even the most static party going full bore. Just sent the link to my 14 year old son (yep, I started family late!) - who I rate as a pretty hot bass guitarist - as one of the great examples of rock improvisation of our time. Listening to it now transported me straight back to when I was his age - what a thing to be able to share with our kids. Great reading all your positive posts folks, although those that told of attending live concerts made me green with envy - having grown up during the zenith of apartheid in South Africa, which saw us starved of international artists until the 90's. Vinyl kept our hopes alive and fed our souls. Thanks for the post Mr Snookies - rock on!
@@johnshaw1967 Ain’t that the truth! Rumour has it hospital emergency admissions departments play this and if you don’t move after the 3rd bar you’re pronounced “Dead on Arrival!”
I was lucky to be at this concert in 1971 at the miami marine stadium.....will never forget and i also have the double album........thanks to pete Rivera/ gil Bridges/ mark olson/ Eddie gusman and Ray monette.....and of course my favorite bass player of all times......john persh
OUT OF SIGHT! LOL My brother had this album on 8 track and we played it til it spilled it's guts out! He drove a 68 Chevy Impala cruising thru Brackenridge park San Antonio Tx The memories!.
This is the BEST version of their Get Ready & its still sounds great as....even today !!!!! I actually love this arrangement, it couldn't have been done any better. It don't touch the original done by the Temptations but it was written for them. But rearranged to this kind sound is just so prefect.
Yes I love it too I rock it almost everyday when we was in the army we used to be headed out to the field without boomboxes and we be playing it loud as hell had a lot of fun a lot of fun listen to that course we was also high as hell too
Lovely!! I was 14 yrs when my parents had the ALBUM.. Young folks; there was ALBUMS.. I can remember the PA guy telling the guy to get out the water so he don't "electrocuted or something"!! Lastly, I wish there was some video of the concert. Fyi, they were signed by Motown...
this song has it all. Awesome bass solo, drum solo, sax solo, guitar solo with great screaming wah, keyboards - you cannot help but tap your foot and rock out as you remember how you used to crank this song on the first nice day of the year out of the speakers of your oversized stereo system that you placed in the windows so you could listen to it as you sat on the front steps of your college dorm drinking a cold one and watching all the girls go by. Yes, this song grooves.
the only white boy group on the motown label. 1971 i bought this album & it still gives me the chills in my spine to hear this live 20 plus minutes. ROCK AND ROLL BABY!!!!!!
i had the good fortune of seeing them live at University of Utah special events center in 1973. Awesome show, great performance. Also on the venue was the Buddy Miles band.
I first heard this back in the 70's while doing a radio show on WSYC 610 Shippensburgh State College. They jammed their butts off. Drum solo awesome!!!
3 years later and still listening to it! Just never gets old...... just better. Hope generations after me enjoy it as much as I have for the last 50+ years. Its timeless.
I used to smoke weed in my early 20s and have my strobe light flashing to this. My 33 1/3 was crackly, but I always played it loud. This song was only 8 or 9 years old when I was born.😂
There are three songs that were always played at gatherings and get togethers back in the day of good pot and far out Rock and Roll. Get Ready Live in Concert, Edgar Winter and White Trash Tobacco Road and Lynyrd Skynyrd 's Free Bird. Always a dynamite way to close out a great time. 😀💥✌️🎸🌟✨
Cruising in my 69 Camaro after discharge from the AF listening to Rare Earth on an 8 track , ..... "Get Ready" ... Damn I needed that after serving from 65 to 69 in the AF . Proud to serve my country but , BUT .. Those years wore me out .... Rare Earth , Quick Silver and more ..
RIP Gil Evans wirh the band from its inception until his passing 12-8-2021. saxophone, flute, background vocalist and then lead vocalist in recent years. Taking it all in today as i have many days. Peace and love from Randy Black

Yeah, I still have the original album. I bought it when it first came out. Yesterday, my daughter showed how to get it off this site and put it in the Ipod. Now I can listen to Get Ready while driving again.
Ho yeah! this is the one I was looking for, thanks so much for posting this version, all I could remember was the album looking a piece of 'nam surplus, how we rolled back then...
