Hey, we're back with another classic 50's find! This time it's a 1951 Chevrolet Bel-Air that was done as a mild "Kustom" back in the 50s.
We're pretty excited about this one; it's actually pretty decent and the old modifications add an interesting angle to the car's history.
We'll be sure to do more videos about this car if anyone wants; let me know if you guys like this kind of thing like I do!
All the best again from me and lovely Stella and little Francine!

Absolutely amazing find. I would not be disappointed to find a car with that amount of corrosion in the middle of Arizona. The fact that it’s out of the Great White North? Mind Blowing!

Rewatching this in 2024. It was nice to see Stella again. Still good to see the 1951 Chevy still on the lot.

The first 51 Bel Air I saw was a convertible, bone stock, in the dark green with a tan top. How pretty it was. The inside roof bows or headliner accents in a fancy braid kept on in the Bel Air interiors, including in 1956 sedans. Friends of the family had one of these in black with a lemon yellow headliner.

That one's definitely worth trying to get running again, even if it's destined to end up with a different motor in the future. It would be nice to see it restored as the custom it was developing in to but it might well be worth more as an original spec car...

I have a close friend who has a resto-rod '51 Chevy hardtop. It is triple black and looks stock until you open the hood. It is equipped with the typical small block 350 Chevy, and a turbo 350 trans. If you stay with the mild custom you have lots of options. I am looking forward as always to more of your videos.

Floor not even rusted out geez that's hard to believe.definitely a custom with those cad tail lights leaded in. For a 51 Chevy that is a great find. And the glass isn't even broken how cool is that. Are you kidding me all 4 tires rolling not seized up. Yep really hard to believe thanks for sharing this exceptional find.

Nice car. My dad bought a 51 four door in 1962. It had low miles in mint condition. I remember the car being extremely reliable and trouble free. Very tough engine and I still remember how good it would start in sub zero temps. He had no plug in at the time. Before that he had a 47 Dodge which would not start as good and we happily got to stay home from school when it wouldn't. Sadly, the Chevy put an end to that. Wish we had kept and stored it.

Light touch needed on this one. The rear lights really suit it very well, getting the skirts back on, some front end chrome and some full size wheel covers on there and it'd look pretty much finished. Really doing with this what you did with the Frazer would be ideal, these sorts of cars just don't seem to survive and either get restored or customised into something completely different. Absolutely amazing thing to find in such good shape.

Great looking body style on these cars, and I love the Caddy fins. The instruments look a bit odd to Australian eyes - our right hand drive renditions kept the '49 dash from '49 to '52. We did have the same craze here of disconnecting a perfectly good column shift and putting a really crap floor shift through a hole in the floor to make cars go faster! If the motor is no good, I'd put in a post '54 one myself - this one will still have splash lubrication for the rods. Hope to be seeing more of this car!
@coldwarmotors
@coldwarmotors 6 лет назад
Hey Peter! Thanks for the note! Yeah, I couldn't believe that the modification to the shifter was deliberate...I thought it was a temporary hack so the car could be moved, but have since found out that guys used to do that... When I looked a little closer I could see it was done many years ago and there were shift knobs on both the shifters at one time. No plans to change the engine on this one if the one in it can be made to run. We'll definitely be doing a series on this sweet old Chev...Cheers!

Oh I definitely want to see this one through, as a lover of period correct kustoms, and the proud owner of mild kustom 51 styleline this is right up my alley. This is such a great find, as I have found a 50s kustom in the wild I know how exciting this must be for you guys! If you are curious the kustom i found is a 1951 ford hardtop with a 3" chop, back window is now a small rectangle, trim shaved, molded headlights, frenched antennas, rounded hood, grille molded for a 53 chevy grille, and a louvered deck lid. The biggest killer is the drivetrain is long gone, along with the hood which I assume would have been louvered as well. The car is perfect for getting it running and rolling it the way it is. It also doesn't have a drop of paint on it makes me wonder if it was never finished. Have fun with this one guys it's definitely worth it!

I think that’s a 235 - on a 216 the tappet cover comes up past the head and around the spark plugs. I also don’t think those motor mounts midway down the engine came in 51s with the 216. Also, the seam in the center of the hood has been welded and filled. Love the channel, and a cool project!

HELL YES, I want to see this one rescued !!!! I LOVE those chrome headliner bows in the Bel Air's. They used them through 55 I believe. I have a 57 210 Sport Coupe (hard top) and love the car but was so disappointed that it doesn't have those chrome bows. I bet this thing was on its way to frenched headlights and a 49 Merc grille opening with a 54 vet grille bar or the DeSoto teeth. Probably the Buick "scallop" side trim. You guys have the talent and resources to finish that journey for this car. Chrome reverse wheels and two tone paint. Two carbs and dual exhaust. Gorgeous !!!
