On D-Day June 6, 1944, American Troops landed on Omaha Beach. Several photographs and film was taken, but some are often confused to be taken on D-Day when they actually were not. On June 7, 1944 two photographers and a motion picture cameraman spotted a sinking LCVP and saw how a group of engineers rushed to their aid. In this Omaha Beach Normandy Invasion mini-documentary we look at the story of those famous photographs and motion picture film that were taken along the french coast on Omaha Beach.

My Uncle Bernard came ashore at OMAHA beach (St.Laurent-sur-Mer) as an individual replacement on/about 27-28 June 1944. He was then assigned to Company B, 1st Battalion, 115th Infantry Regiment, 29th Infantry Division on 29 June. His battalion and Task Force C (Coda) captured St. Lo on 19 July. 11 or 12 days later he was seriously wounded by machine gun fire and evacuated back to the US. His WWII lasted a little over a month.

My dad was at Omaha Beach Red (2nd wave). He was a member of the 62nd Field Artillery, part of what was called "Patton's Shock Troops". The landing craft he was on was headed toward a area of the beach where my dad said a bomb had just landed, A jeep on the landing craft ahead of them exited and dropped completely out of sight. My dad pointed this out to the "driver" and they moved over to avoid the crater formed from the explosion. My dad said they were immediately taking fire and he ran as fast as he could to take cover behind a large metal structure on the beach. Suddenly he discovered the structure was a fuel tank. Dad survived Omaha Beach, he was also at the Battle of the Bulge and spent 3 years overseas. During the war he met General Patton two times. Dad's name is on one of the bricks that forms a wall at the entrance to the General Patton Tank Museum at Chirico Summit, CA. He was able to attend the dedication of the museum. Dad lived to be 100 years and 4 months. He will also be our hero to me and my brother.

Years ago... I had the pleasure of becoming aquainted with Matthew Warner, Son of John Warner Jr., met him too... of Warner Bro. Studios Fame. When Matthew asked me if I was his Grandson to Gen. Norman D. Cota Sr. of World War II. Fame... Matthew and I began to have a discussion about "D-Day" and the landing at "Omaha Beach". In what little I knew at that time... Matthew began to tell me a story about the film crew landing at "Omaha Beach" and what was told to him by his Father, John Jr. The original plan was for The Film and Photo Crew to land early along with "The First Wave" of US Army Soldiers on "Omaha Beach", to film and photograph the invasion forces landing at "Omaha Beach"... unfortunately, much of "The First Wave" landed on the wrong end of "Omaha Beach". The results were horrific. So much so... that some of the film and photographic equipment got lost and damaged in the confusion. What was recovered... was secretly 'Archived', because it was that horrible. Upon the pending confusion of "The First Wave", Gen. Cota arrived on "The Second Wave" to access the situation. Gen. Cota was "Ike's Point Man" and The Mastermind of Amphibious Landings at Normandy and it was him that would have continued the operation or call it off. Fortunately... Gen. Cota got most of First and Second Wave of The Omaha Beach Landings redirected toward the other end of "Omaha Beach" and out of Harms Way as much as possible. Most likely... there were additional Film and Photograph Crew on "The Second Wave" to film and photograph the landing at "Omaha Beach"... again, what was recovered from The Film Crew, of "The First Wave"... seems to be possibly verified in this footage. I tend to agree that some of the film footage previously seen was mostly Second Wave Film Footage, but this Recent Film Footage and Photos, in my opinion... is portions from "The First Wave". According to Matthew... most of "The First Wave Film Footage" was too horrible to describe and what was lost and/or later archived... was best kept classified and most likely, My Grandfather also with Commander Gen. Eisenhower... though it was best... to keep most of The Recovered Film Footage... classified. ~Alfred Edward "Michael" Cota-Moch, "Proxy" Grandson of Maj. Gen. Norman D. Cota Sr.

You can't possibly put yourself there. Such bravery from men of the greatest showing of Valor ever in any war. God bless them all. 💯💯💯💯❤️🇺🇸
