That black foam insert has a lot more to do with initial investment and a lot less to do with "look". If the internal profile of the injected molded case is designed to hold the card, like PSA, then that means every time you have a different size you need a different mold. SGC uses only 1 size case and then they out source the foam insert to a die cutting company to create the different profiles to hold the cards. This is something like 10x cheaper for the initial investment and only requires SGC to invest in 1 mold. Now the idea of using the foam to make custom profiles actually makes sense but that means they would need to invest in a laser cutter. That would allow them to precisely cut the correct profile which could be generated in some sort of CAD software after they take that top down photograph of a particular card. You think after having all that extra cash they saved from having a single mold they would have no problem spending 3K on a laser cutter.

I don't know man, every card I see in an SGC holder looks pretty accurate in my opinion. I've also seen some PSA 10's that are horribly offcentered, corners that aren't perfectly sharp, etc. One company may have better logistics or a more professional looking office but it's all the same kind of people grading cards. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to determine a cards grade and it's all so subjective. So with that said, if I'm going to grade my cards or buy graded cards, I'll take SGC.

This video with SGC is months old and is way beyond the current state of things. This is a case of "if you know, you know". SGC has LONG been a very reputable grading source for those of us in the vintage sports cards. You admit you don't know grading and don't use it, so how is it that you know so much? Maybe in your Pokemon world what you say is true, but for vintage having a SGC graded card is well respected as a tough grader that very much adds value to cards.

Trusting SGC with my cards, because the ETA on getting my cards back with PSA or Beckett is borderline over a year away. Calling into question the longevity of SGC's growth plan, and calling into question the cost of their services is irrelevant to the quality and ability of the grading process. Does a $30 fee mean the card is worth $30 more, no. So then does PSA's $150 cost per card make a card worth $150 more? No. Okay. What's the point you think you're making here? Really not interested in your negative stance towards a card grading service that is being open and transparent because of your trivial opinion stances, mocking them for using walkie talkies, when you can't even find videos of other grading services offices.
@bigroncoleman11

I think grading in general shouldn’t have any barring on the value of the card. So someone’s opinions on the card and it’s shape makes your card 200x more valuable or more? (Whatever it is I’m generalizing) Why though? The card is still the card? If it’s in good shape it’s in good shape. A plastic casing with someone’s opinions (who could be wrong) shouldn’t make a card more valuable by itself. Such a weird concept.
@PM-yq8yo
@PM-yq8yo 2 года назад
Its not really a weird concept. Not every card that gets graded goes up in value. Really only rare/vintage/sought after cards with high grades go up in value. Almost any modern card that gets a PSA 9 or under will be almost the same price as the raw cost or even less. Its more than just, if its in good shape its in good shape. When buying/selling raw cards, NM, LP, HP is different from one person to the next. Grading companies provide a generally consistent grading scale that people understand when buying/selling and authentication. This will lead to the grade of the card having an effect on the card value. The higher the grade, the rarer the card is, thus increasing the value. Lost of people like to collect cards with high grades, whether its for the rarity or just having the most pristine card. Its a lot easier to do that when a card is graded. Also, some people just like to collect slabs regardless of the grade, its a valid way to collect cards.

So I’m watching this interview and company tour and at the start of the video the owner/president whatever he is says his company had a 10 employees/ a few which shipped out 150 cards/day, then he states he’s got 110 employees currently that ship out 4000 cards/day. Throughout the video if you count all the employees you see there’s probably 10-20 (which is odd since there’s supposed to be 100) well later in the video he shows his meeting room where it says in big letters “goal today is 4000 cards”.. well in my opinion it’s fishy and very odd that this guy has got literally 20 employees shipping out 4K/day when he admitted he could only do 150cards with 10 employees. (The authentication process takes time) Not only that, the building he’s working out of couldn’t even hold 100 employees, and he’s got a goal plastered on his whiteboard to show his 10 employees that day to hit the goal of 4K cards.. might be nothing but it’s just odd…and so the guy is lying for some reason & I don’t know why lol, I think he wants to portray like he’s giving an extremely quality authentication process but in reality he is just pumping through tons of cards per day with few employees and putting a façade on for costumers..

This was a great video and Rattle had some great and not so great points. Things like having the machine that can take the greatest level of quality assurance on a rare card in another room while on an intense daily quota is the type of questioning that these companies need, mainly because it shows how inconsistent this entire process is. On the other hand, roasting them for the theatrics of a youtube tour video like walkie-talkies, no framed jerseys on the wall or asking questions about machinery that they "should" know the answer to is a bit overkill. They're doing a filmed tour interview, you need to get into the perspective of someone who has literally no idea what they are looking at as the addressable audience.

Honestly I was shocked. What a low grade, boiler room type of setup. I seriously thought cards go to a semi-scientific "lab" type of environment. I like SGC and their slabs but that was scary.

Unless your card raw is selling for 100$ raw minimum, and you think you can get a 9 at the very minimum. It can be worth it. Anything below a 9 is pretty much raw price lol

All these grading companies have 2-3 people agree on a grade before it get slabbed, the 2nd-3rd grader is usually a senior person who knows the standards

I was thinking it was more quality and much bigger. Every card gets sent ino a machines and robots that scanes and check everything in a computer with special measurements and lasers then put it togheter in a case witch pristine calculations and safeness. This is just basically young guys first job in life that gets hired to sit and make their own opinion on cards all day. I guess I seen to many syfy´s and have too high expectations :p

They were very strict with their hiring process though I need to add that in.. I applied as being a collector for over 15 years since I live one town over and I was denied than I see this and I'm like wth there's like 18yr olds there and I'm 35?! Lol
@ingresswizard9044
@ingresswizard9044 2 года назад
There is a very simple explanation for this. They can pay an 18yo with zero experience less than a 35yo with 15 years experience.

Same thing happens with best buys geek squad where your actually way over qualified for what they are looking for and have too much knowledge that would get in the way of them making big profits!

Idk that he’s that “hands off” so much as he is the one that oversees everything which inherently makes it difficult to be completely up to date on each individual thing. He seemed to know everyone by name upon entering each room which would seem to entail he is very current in the business at least in the grand scheme of things etc.

Keep in mind that 25 was a raise in price from 15 a card then 25 then 75 and then back to thirty soo.... I think our economy will raise inflation soooo........ Everyone will go up just like spending the money verses value shows only technically by a fee and alot is political. So I don't see a monster difference verses a pristine gold and a gem ten PSA they are the same the SGC helped PSA don't forget that.

Listen SGC doesn't pop control the cards graded like PSA. Try sending PSA any vintage card you know is a Gem 10 and let it come back at an 8 or 9 fuckinnnng BET. And Dude your opinion on this subject is amateur at best. Fact and that's coming from someone that has a Topps contract.

I prefer raw cards. With a decent amount of time in the hobby you can easily value your opinion over any of the grading services. Unless you're looking for resale value or just really want chunky plastic cases.
@bipolarexpress9827
@bipolarexpress9827 2 года назад
Depends if you want to sell them sometime. I wouldn’t send anything to get graded if I didn’t have some level of certainty it could get a 10. Also, the scarcity of the card comes into play. Wouldn’t get some common card graded because it’s in flawless condition either.

SGC slabs are so cheap. I can Literally take apart a slab with a butter knife without chipping Or cracking the slab. I will still use SGC but they’re my last choice.
