And then you have women, like me, who have crushed on her since the very first time I heard that special voice. It's 2024, and nothing has changed either.
I could listen to her in conversation FOREVER! So warm , authentic, and natural. Not pretentious in any way. It’s sad that she cannot sing now, but the world will be forever fortunate that her recordings will go on forever. ❤️
Linda Ronstadt is intelligent, honest and humble. It was so refreshing to stumble back in time to this interview today. What a talented and beautiful woman.
Back in the Peace Love Dope days. Cocaine was the drug of choice. Makes for shorter, faster interviews. We are all just Prisoners of our own device. Linda had a quite eventful life. God bless her.
I never realized how intelligent and articulate she could be. Wish the media would have focused more on this. She really earned her place in music history.
OMG you are so correct. Fifty years ago, and had I known it would never get better than this, except for Bruce and U2, I would have cherished the moment.
I cherished then and I think even more now. With all the changes there will never be an era of creative raw talent like we had. That's why everywhere I go I hear my. Music. In grocery store, commercials offices radio, etc. This was all so creative back then. Instruments, composing, playing, singing, real lyrics that talk about life and time's. My opinion the greatest music era ever!!!!! 👍🎸🎹☮️✌️🎶
And she’s a life-long reader! Reads long and challenging fiction & nonfiction books and is able to discuss the intelligently with ppl at length, according to an interviewer with the New Yorker who discussed with LR about life outside of performing music.
What an absolute delight listening to her...Instead of "me me me", she instead talks about her group and all of her peers and the music scene in general. A true musician and one of the greatest.
@William Murray Absolutely no one agrees with your trashy assessment of the great and beautiful Linda. One of those shallow Hal type guys who bases their opinion of women on their looks. An absolute pig of a man
My father poured concrete at Linda's Malibu residence in the 70's. She was kind enough to autograph and personalize two copies of her new album and sent them with him for my brother and I. I still love that album and she is a life affirming, wonderful soul. Thank you Linda.
This may be the finest interview of a singer I have ever seen. Unvarnished and pure. Linda is responsible for bringing so many loose ends together. She made Rock history happen. A true talent and talent magnet...
I watched her doc and honours and I wasn't aware of all the genres she covered, including opera and singing in Spansh. Many great singers (eg. Dolly Parton) said they could not do what Linda could do with her voice.
She really is like the girl next door! Humble, but confident, innocent yet wise. Even from this early interview, you can tell that she's a go-getter and makes things happen. You have become a legend that will live on LONG after you eventually pass away! Like when you decided to sing all your dad's spanish songs, that record became the all-time best selling Spanish record, a record that still stands today! You're legacy will live forever!
Her accent/twang sounded like that of a late teen from a no-budget movie in the late '60s/early '70s. I can't place it geographically so much as it maybe was what a young person's accent morphed into once they moved to LA.
An iconic, talented, humble, beautiful, intelligent angel that our generation was so fortunate to have as we moved through the milestones of our lives. How lucky were we? There are no Linda Ronstadt artists in this era sad to say. She was head and shoulders above most of the vocalists of the last 60 years. So glad she has finally received the much deserved AWARDS and HONORS for her numerous lifetime achievements. THANK YOU LINDA. . .Well done!!!
Shes good-one of my first memories is singing " No good" back in the day. You might like Weyes Blood. Shes great kind of similar to the greats of your era.
Thank you Linda Ronstadt for your Beautiful music. I have been fortunate to listen to your many talented songs over the years. You're truly a gifted artist.💕🎼🎼🎼🎸🎶🎶🎶
Absolutely beautiful here ! I fell in love with her the first time I ever saw her. Pretty face, beautiful eyes and smile, and of course the hairstyle. Combine all of that with her astounding voice and personality and she is Number One in my book. Full of life and humble. Such a great interview as well. Something I rarely watch due to rude interviewers that think we want to hear them talk instead of the guest. Bless you always, Linda. Thank you for sharing your talents with the world !!!
Linda seems like an incredibly nice person. The kind you’d love to just hang out with. She’s not only an amazing talent, but also down to earth and humble; a rare combination.
This wonderful testament to one of the most stupendous vocal talents of the 20th century reflects the confident and relaxed, self-assured conversation of a young lady who was completely comfortable as a person and as a musician. She compliments the fellow singers and musicians of her day in such a generous spirit of admiration and gratitude for their talents. As a former road musician I can vouch for how truly rare and beautiful this quality is in a great artist. Linda Ronstadt's range of expression and ability to command all musical genres with total ease IMHO is unmatched and has never been surpassed in popular music. In short I love the girl and am sooo grateful for this wonderful interview!
So clear from this interview why she was able to branch out into so many musical styles: all she cared about was making great music. She's not crafting a persona to sell records or be famous. And her name-dropping has nothing to do with impressing anyone or "stardom" -- it's just facts about people who played music that she enjoyed and enjoyed making music with! So knowledgeable about the connections with people. It breaks my heart to hear that the Eagles were so happy singing together in their early days, given what happened later. She (and they) made some of my favorite music.
Roger Dale - Correctamundo! You smashed it, Roger. Linda checked all the boxes. Oh, and add the obvious. Talented, high-wage earner with growing financial accounts and residual income like a parking meter in Manhattan.
@Mr. Moon To the far right anybody who agrees with political views that help people and who don't happen to be rich are socialists and kooks. Just realize that there's socialism for the wealthy just like what you consider is socialism for the poor. It's all money people get that they didn't earn. Some people don't get inheritances and they need some help, I don't know why people such as yourself seem to feel that a good social safety net is a bad thing and anyone who supports that is a kook and a socialist. Actually anyone with even half a brain can see that it's actually quite necessary in a civilized society. As far as I'm concerned you're the kook not her. Good bye and have a good day.
Linda became a star because of her inner beauty. Sure, she is a beautiful woman but what is even more appealing is her inner self which you can just tell she is a good soul. Bless you, Linda.
She is so excited about music. Her mind just goes off. She feels very relaxed with this guy. She has always been respectful to the guys in her band and that they are very good. It's great to listen to .
I had a huge cardboard poster of her in a satin jacket and satin shorts wearing roller skates in my bands practice room back in the 70s and 80s. What an inspiration..
What a treat this clip is. Just wanted to watch a snippet but her genuineness pulled me in all the way. Just a regular down to earth chick with a singular voice that took the world by storm 🔥
She's such a winsome, humble person thatvyou kust don't emcounter these days. Immensely powerful yet sensitive voice, bamd what a beautiful woman. She's given us so much hreat music. I can only imagine how much more she wouldve given us if she hadnt had uad that terribly cruel disability. Im literally watching herv"Old grey Whistle Test" gig on my night shift tonight.
She is wonderful. I always liked her music, but within the past couple of years, I discovered I actually love it and in all probability, her. Obviously not physically as I don't know her, but she comes across as someone who you could always depend on and if she could help in any way, she would.
Honored to say I saw her in person in San Diego 76/77! Will hold her in my heart for the songs and memories she’s given me. Just driving home today I played her greatest hits album and blown away by her strength, sound, tone of her voice. I wept when my favorite drummer Neil Peart died. When she passes, it won’t be pretty.
Me too! One minute became two then 10. The first 5 comments all nail it, what a force she was (is?) with zero ego. Wow. I was born in 1969 and stuff like this makes me wish I was born 15 years earlier.
In December 1974 Linda performed at my University. She did her fan favorites and also did many of the songs from the 'Heart Like a Wheel' album, which had just been released. It was a sortof intimate setting with many of us sitting on a tarp laid over a hardwood basketball floor. I managed to sit right in front of the stage in the approximate middle with mostly young ladies around me. This meant that Linda was right in front of me and some of the stage light bled over to where a few of us were sitting. She was very nervous; this was one of the first times she had performed some of these songs live. Andrew Gold was there and helped her a bit with her nerves. But the main thing she did on the ballads was to stand behind the microphone stand, not moving, and look right at me as she sang. She looked exactly like she does here, even hair length. I defy anyone to have Linda Ronstadt in 1974 sing love songs right at you and not melt. It was a double bill; the opening act was The Earl Scruggs Revue with a completely toasted Earl Scruggs. Even so it was one of my best concert nights ever. I went to many of her concerts after that, but she was a star then and I couldn't get as close. I am beyond sad that she can no longer sing.
Everyone who hears her sing falls in love with her. I loved her in those early days, especially when Different Drum (SUCH a great song) was on the radio every half hour. Great memories! Plus, she's so cute and charismatic in this interview. Also I loved Jackson back then (still do) in the early days in L.A. where I lived.
She still has this amazing personality. Not just addictive to listen to musically but also her story telling and down to earth genuine realness is appealing. Her tales of the Troubadour are as legendary as the club.
In 1971 at Disneyland Gradnight, we rested at a small empty arena .. Then Linda Rhonstadt, a few yards in front, started to sing... And I think I'll remember that night for a long long time.
I've had a crush on her since the early 70s. If I had been 5 years older, I would have skipped college and gone searching for her before Jerry Brown nabbed her.
Just watched the Linda Ronstadt documentary "Linda Ronstadt: The Sound of My Voice" and my heart is broken--I hadn't realized she was suffering from Parkinson's Disease and that it essentially killed her singing voice. I was a teenager in the 70s and (like everyone else) loved Ronstadt--her wide-eyed beauty, her easygoing, girl next door friendliness--this interview seems characteristic of how open and unassuming she was--and most especially that amazing instrument that was her singing voice. Linda was a brave and ambitious artist who really could do anything. What I wouldn't give for a time machine for this wonderful lady. (And for myself. *sigh*)
Pipes of glory. Her singing voice, now lost, was something very special. Her heart, mind and vibe remain fascinating. The excellent recent documentary shows only the tip of her musical mountain. Oh yeah she was hardcore adorable as well.
Linda is a very special and modest talent. Pure and unaffected which is refreshing and honest. I could listen to her songs any time, every time and all the time.
The sweetest thing about Linda is the way she always has positive things to say about her contemporaries whether male or female. She helped many get a step up in the music business... Emmylou, McGarrigles come to mind. So unselfish that's why so many even her exes still maintain her friendship
This is such a great interview both from the interviewer's and from Linda's perspective. The interviewer didn't try to dominate, or advertise his intelligence. He asked good questions and stayed out of the way, as it should be. Meanwhile, Linda was her stream-of-consciousness authentic self, which is so rare for people in the public eye. And she largely retained that approach in later interviews, even as she aged and could have been jaded by cynicism or self-importance. Such formative, compelling stories!
Nothing in anything she said even hinted at ego or a desire for fame. I really just got the sense of someone who was on a journey and wanted to perform and create music and collaborate with others . It just feels like that spirit doesn't exist in that industry anymore.
I read her memoir, and not only is she so talented, but she truly is a professional. She was somewhat harsh on herself and her talent. But I think she's perfect, and I love her!!
I was in Heaven witnessing Linda perform at The Iconic Radio City Music Hall in 1978! It was my first time in the Hall and this was going to be an amazing concert and it was! She stood center stage with a flower in her hair and sang her ass off! I loved her than and I love her now and so grateful to have experienced her performance!
She is so real, that's one of the things I've always loved about Linda. The faces, the way she pulls on her hair, the way she dosen't like to listen to herself!? The voice of a generation! Always a joy to listen to! Thank you Linda, for hours upon hours of sheer pleasure!
A class act from the best age of music - long before MTV and auto-tune. Back then the artists had to be supremely talented and still they were so humble. Far cry from today....
No doubt. It's really unfair to call most of pop music today "artistry", because it isn't. It's gratuitous sexuality meant to pander to the lowest, base places of the human psyche. It's depressing. On the bright side there are a lot of people still making amazing music, you just have to search them out, they're there, just not in plain view. This undoubtedly says something about the culture we're becoming.
@@kgbeezr75 Without getting into a bunch of names, some of those performers are actually very good to great singers, but are very good at "singing" and performing the modern junk that sells and makes them money. Like you said, that says something about the culture.
@@Beatle849 Agreed. I go long periods of time without any exposure to modern pop music outside of stores/restaurants (and I usually tune it out), but I just got back from a road trip where I had to listen to pop radio for the entire trek....all I can say is that i'm taken aback by just how stunningly awful it is. Some talented vocalists for sure, but the "music" is little more than the same couple notes over the same synthesized pounding, with "lyrics" so vacuous and vapid that I can't help walking away feeling some degree of disdain for the people who pour their money into that machine, keeping it going. I don't begrudge anyone a living, or even affluence, but it's disappointing to see the people who pour themselves into their music struggling now to eek out a living while those who skate by with looks and a manufactured persona walk away with all the cash and fame.
I can't keep up with what's been going on I guess my heart just must be slowing down Among these human beings, in their designer jeans Am I the only one who hears the screams And the strangled cries of Lawyers in Love....
Its really great listening to her talk about knowing Glenn Frey and Don Henley before they made their mark with the Eagles. She's a sweetheart and seems very humble.
I agree 100 per cent ! That's the feeling I got when I read her autobiography a few years ago. She hasn't done many interviews over the years, but always comes across as smart & funny but also down to earth, sweet & humble !
I've been in love with her since I was 18, that was 1972. I only really started appreciating her music, though, later in her career. I like her early country-rock stuff a lot, but absolutely weep at the strength of her voice in her Spanish language Canciones albums and her Trio albums.
