It's a bloody shame non of the rehearsals and gigs that Stars did have never seen light of day. Those are the Holy Grail of Syd's legacy. I worked on Twink's last album 'Think Pink 5' and he hasn't got them. But rumour has it the band were recorded and the tapes taken by someone. Probably in the hands of a rich private collector just like Brian Jones' lost music was stolen from his music room soon after he died.
@@twistedspanner Yes a lot of things went missing and some probably destroyed, lost and taped over. There is a picture of Syd playing with The Stars wearing a full beard, I used to think that was fake but not so sure now, I think it is him.
If only he hadn't taken all those stinking drugs. I hate to see that sunken, dead look in his eyes. He looked so alert, polite; subtly ironic and balanced in the famous TV interview. Like Peter Green, these exceptionally sensitive artists, touched by genius, cannot tolerate that junk. They have "a skin too few". A true tragedy that still resonates.
He did take too much, from all sources that were close to him. It's possible he was not meant to go farther than he did, since he wouldn't conform to the industry in any way, while the others didn't seem to mind.
@@danholm4952 Yes and after reading many accounts, it wasn't a myth, he really did take a lot, sometimes more than one trip a day, according to people who were on the scene.
@@danholm4952 You kind of can't, though. Your tolerance to LSD goes up so strikingly fast that he could've been taking so much and it'd barely give him a trip. This could be what led to his true "overdose" on that lost weekend as they say. There's no telling the incredible amount he must have put into himself. Not to mention, STP, 10x stronger than LSD and given it in what's considered 4 times a heroic dose of todays standards was all over the UK in July 1967. I'm sure Syd or someone he knew thought "hey Syd, why not try this new acid?" a lot of people were given it told it was "acid" or believed it was acid and learned the hard way, Townshend and Clapton being two. The former needed professional help to recover from it I think it was so bad. Clapton hallucinated for over a week.
Syd was really struggling mentally and the lady made it worse sadly in my opinion ,but that doesn't take away the fact that Syd Barrett is a musical icon!!!! R.i.p. legend
Syd Barett received help from David G. for his two solo albums... The recordings turned out to be very difficult!!! Syd continued to take drugs!!! He was not in a good state... Syd was on the verge of schizophrenia!! He should have been eating apples and oranges instead... Syd had the wrong friends!!! Sad story for Syd and his family... I am interested in how he lived with the illness for the rest of his life... Unfortunately there are no more books about Syd in Germany...
~~ this was start of October and Syd was less than reliable by this time - but about 3 weeks later they would set off on their first tour of the U.S. and that was a disaster - many cancelled shows - the whole east coast leg was scrapped - Syd really did not recover from that - and the Hendrix package tour of Europe that followed was no better really - but probably a bit less noticeable for the Floyd as many other bands were on the bill to help audiences forget how bad PF was by then ..
Hmm possibly! many of them were and filmed also, in parts, and many have vanished. It's pretty crazy there are no shots of PF on stage at the Saville, doing 2 shows too. But I may find some yet, things pop up all the time or are mislabeled Thanks HCS
