That PB1140 (if I recall Pyramid also made a smaller, single fan version of this series of amps) it's super rare and probably the finest amp Pyramid made outside of the ones PPI produced for them. Amp looks to be in excellent condition...you have a real gem.
Yes I do believe I’ve recently seen the single fan version you mentioned. Thanks on the PPI history, I had no idea they produced amps for Pyramid, I will definitely look into that, but yes I do believe this is a rare piece and I’m happy to own it. That’s the same thought I had when I saw it on marketplace. Luckily I had the opportunity to purchase it. Thanks for watching, more car audio content on the way and if you haven’t already please like and subscribe.🔊🔊🔊
These were the first series of amp’s Pyramid introduced with a MOSFET power supply. At the time, they were only second in quality to the white Super Pro amps that were made in the USA by another vendor. Let’s just say a vendor that at the time made some of the best quality amps you could get. 😉
Wow, thanks for that great bit of history on the amp. I knew I found a rare piece but had no info on it and couldn’t find anything online. Thanks again and if you haven’t already please like and subscribe.🔈🔉🔊
The reason the amplifier went into protect is because you were running too low of an impedance in bridged mode. If it's only rated at 4 ohm stereo then you have to run 8 ohm in bridged mode. Next time you come across an old amplifier don't just hit it with 13 volts and unlimited current. Use your power supply and slowly bring up the voltage with maybe a three or five amp limit. This will give the capacitors a little bit of time to charge up. 👍
You are correct, I should have read the sticker on the back of the amplifier a little more carefully, thanks for the help. I will also apply the advice you shared about slowly charging capacitors on an old amp. Thanks for watching and please like and subscribe.🔊🔊🔊
there used to be a store called Martinez Electronics and 4 Kings in downtown Brownsville, Tx.. Both carried those amps plus a bunch of other Pyramid products that are rare now.
Very cool amp! Makes great power I'd say well worth sinking money into. Very much reminds me of an Awia 4 channel I own. Same power supply out put side is smaller but it's a 40x4 amp so that makes sense. But early korean. I my self collect the early Korean amps. Mostly zed audio turned korean like the crunch, autotek ext. I'd love to see more on the amp should you have it fixed or find any kinda info on it.
I will more then likely eventually get it fixed. I also plan on getting it back on the bench and showing it off one more time. I have more old school amplifiers lined up to be tested and displayed , so if you haven’t already please like and subscribe. Thanks for watching.🔊🔊🔊
@93dajjdg I'd have to look through my old price lists to get that info, but I believe this model was sold under the Legacy brand name as well. These were a good value, but they weren't premium quality by any means.
Interesting, do you have experience with this amplifier? Any idea what you think is causing the fans to turn off? I will say I did clean all switches and potentiometers but that made no difference. I also sprayed the fan that wasn’t working with DeoxIT and got the fan to operate. So both fans work but still no sound from channels 3 and 4… Again if you have any ideas what’s causing my issue please share. Thanks for watching and if you haven’t already like and subscribe.🔊🔊🔊
Wow I don’t know why I didn’t think of that. If that ends up fixing the amp I will make an updated video and give you a shout out. Thanks for watching and if you haven’t already please like and subscribe.👍
Built by someone else for pyramid maybe? Looks better than every other pyramid ive seen...but i dont think its a zed or any other big brand that built for others....idk maybe pyramid had a moment in the sun and shame it its 1/2 dead
