2:15 This is an Arabic music scale called " Hijaz Makam " . The word " Makam " means scale (refers to music scale of course) You should do some research on Arabic scales you'll love them : Huzam , Sika , Bayati etc ...

Harmonic dominant scale, wasn't it? Fifth mode of harmonic minor? Or was it just straight harmonic minor? Definitely wasn't phrygian, there's an augmented second in there.

The 5th mode of harmonic minor is Phrygian Dominant, which is Phrygian with a major 3rd. By shifting the 3rd up a semitone, you are indeed making an augmented second between the 2nd and 3rd scale degrees. This augmented second doesn't stop it from being a Phrygian related chord, it just spices it up. But I think MB14 is actually playing Phrygian with a maj 3rd AND a maj 7th, which is called the double Harmonic Scale (and which has two augmented seconds built into it).
