Rare Scenes of Train Crashes in Vintage America (USA) - Colorized
The history of trains is filled with breathtaking moments, but unfortunately, it also carries the weight of tragedy. In this video, I'll take you through some of these tragic moments, brought to life in vivid color alongside their gripping stories.
Travel back in time to explore vintage train wrecks and crashes of the USA. In an era when people curiously surrounded wrecks, the world wasn't built for trains, leading to unique, sometimes bizarre scenes you'll never see today. Experience the untold stories beneath these classic wrecks, where the past reveals its raw, unfiltered reality. Because when it comes to safety, the saying 'the good old days', doesn't always count.

Some familiar pictures here, plus a whole lot more new ones. Incidentally, in the Fort Worth wreck (1.24), sadly, the object arrowed in white is the body of the engineer, trapped in his cab and drowned. And the locomotive at Plumas County (3.23) isn't a Shay but a conventional rod equipperd tank engine.

You missed the worst trainwreck of passenger trains in the US on 7-9-1918 west of Nashville, TN on the NC&StL Railway - head on collision and there are plenty of pictures of the aftermath of that one - used them in my history books on the NC&StL. That one and the circus train wreck in Ohio that occurred earlier than year too...

Nobody seemed to believe in crowd control back in the day. And a lot of morbid curiosity visiting wrecked passenger cars that were the scene of injuries and fatalities. I fail to see how viewing massive amounts of blood and body parts makes for the an atmosphere more suitable for a picnic. One reason for the high rate of fatalities back then was due to the use of wooden passenger cars that splintered easily and fires caused by stoves and lanterns. The use of steel passenger cars and electricity did much to reduced the death toll even with increased speed of the trains.

Some colonization poorly done. Trains, tracks, etc shone in rust. They would have been black. RR would not run rusty cars and engines.
