Bookbinder Daphne Lera, filmed by DOP Kim Batterham with Mark Thomson for the Institute of Backyard Studies (www.ibys.org), supported by the National Museum of Australia.
Daphne, what a wonderful film of your work. I never knew that you had trained in this art. It is a pity that my late wife, Elzy is not here to view the film and to remind us of our friendship so many years ago. I have just learnt that you passed away late last year. RIP, I have wonderful memories of you and our friends at the time. Allen B.
I love bookbinding and also making small boxes. Not trained except for RU-vid tutorials. It gives me great pleasure to make various books for gifts for friends - sketchbooks, portfolios, notebooks etc. Such a rewarding craft. You are so skilled.
I absolutely love bookbinding and I'd love to learn new techniques. I've always wanted to work in a bookbinding/book repair shop but there aren't any around me and I fear it's already died off for the most part since so many people use e-book products.
