I’ve had a soft spot for variegated alocasia lately and today we were lucky enough to unbox some plant mail! I unboxed 4 rare alocasia plus one bonus plant I bought from Christina’s Garden on Instagram. I really treat to talk to and purchase these beautiful plants from, I recommend her! Ever wonder what they're doing to make these plants mutate into these color? I'm starting to see these colors in other plants as well.. cool but not natural.. Even seen a variegated cannabis plant! Lol Thanks for inviting us along

I would imagine most of these are indeed natural! However I’m sure with the profits that can be made in the industry there is definitely some tinkering going on!

I have a variegated Plumeria out front and I think about throwing it out every day. I don't know what the cultivar name is, it came in a box of mixed cuttings. The foliage is nice, but it severely impacts the growth and flowering. Being in Florida, most Plumeria will start blooming in April or May and bloom several times over the summer (the yellow flowered 'Celadine' blooms non-stop from April until November). This variegated one only blooms late in the fall (near leaf drop) and produces only about 8 blooms on a head, no more than one bloom open at any given time. The non-variegated plants can also grow two feet easily in a year, the variegated plant grows (at best) about 8 inches per year. The foliage isn't stunning enough to make up for the poor growth and blooming.

Interesting! I would figure it would be a slower grower, the flowering part is interesting however! I have no clue what color this one’s flower will be yet, it didn’t say. But it always neat to see something new! Thanks Michael! My wife has family in satellite beach so I’ve seen this much larger there than I’ll ever get them here! 😂

@@GreenChickGardens oh yeah, it is crazy how big they can get here, I'm further south on the gulf side. My Celadine started as a 12 inch, two tip cutting in 2017. Before I cut the central stems this spring, it was over 16 feet tall. The trunk diameter at the base is well over a foot, you won't get that growing it in a pot.
