During this time Czechoslovakia was member of the Eastern Bloc, allied with the Soviet Union, and from 1955 a member of the Warsaw Pact. Because of this, the Czechoslovak Air Force used Soviet aircraft, doctrines and tactics. The types of aircraft were mostly MiGs. Fighters MiG-15, MiG-19 and MiG-21F was produced in licence; in 1970s, MiG-23MF were bought, accompanied by -23MLs and MiG-29s in 1980s.
In May 1987, two Czech Air Force jets were scrambled to try to bring down a Czechoslovak engineer attempting to escape his home country via a home-built ultralight aircraft. After flying about 10 miles to the West German border, the refugee's aircraft ran out of fuel, and he landed safely in a Bavarian forest, just before the Czech fighters could intercept him

Jen v licenci jsem vyrobili přes 190 MiGů-21. V 89 bylo ve službě přes 400 bojových letounů všech typů (např. Su-22M4 schopný nést i nukleární střely nebo MiG-29).

As an author/editor of the video and titles too I must add that the flyover Prague in 1975 was done to celebrate 30th anniversary of the end of the war and liberation of Czechoslovakia (9.5.1945).. But ok, thanks for uplad of my edited vid which I gave here 4 years ago..

Exellent video. Some classic shots, there, and an interesting story about the engineer. I'll have to look that one up.

I think , this film is very importance, and also I was intersted in this, because we could not watch Eastern bloc information and film enough in that time. probably Czecho and Slovakian people must not have watched our Japanese defence forces or Western military forces. we can think back to the Cold War era each other.

@fastfreddyczech I can't say what I love about this video more: aircraft or music! Do you (or anyone else) know titles to these songs? Also, now that longer videos are allowed, is there any chance for a longer version?

The music is hilarious, starting at 1:19. Sounds like a combination of spaghetti western, Spanish bullfighting and Charlie's Angels disco all at the same time.

+SpicysaucedHD For some people this works as a porn, LOL. No, just kidding - this is just kind of "jazzy" music that was popular at that time.
@Spicysauced
@Spicysauced 8 лет назад
+19Koty96 Not really. There was Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath, ACDC, Kiss, Nazareth, and so on, and of course all the music of the peace movement, so most young people definitely didnt listen to jazz, pretty sure :) But okay, its the USSR and those people didnt have access to this kind of music.
@19Koty96
@19Koty96 8 лет назад
SpicysaucedHD Not USSR but CzSSR. There were concert of some of them, I guess, but this is year 1975. And at that time, most popular was Jazz, orchestral "Jazz", maybe some "softcore" rock... the music in eastern block was developping quite separately from the western one - plus this is just captured from TV - it is normal to put there just some "soundtrack" type of music instead of whole songs...
@Spicysauced

+19Koty96 HM okay, reagarding the differences between east and west at that time youre probably right :)
