I would argue Warlock HP is still among S tier. It has always artificially boosted the class in Arena so it rarely is ever the bottom rung because you can always out-attrition in a game with presumably equal resources. Also activates some good synergies, and almost every aggro deck has wanted Life Tap when using, say, Finley's battlecry. Devs even considered nerfing the HP's cost or effect when the game first came out. I think one thing that has made Rogue's deceptively evergreen is that Rogue has historically had a weak turn 2. Dagger is essentially "banking" efficient damage to help fill in gaps of damage on a turn the class often has had a hard time doing much else on (exceptions are value rogue decks like Secret or Burgle Rogue). If you think about it, cards ranging from SI:7 Agent, to Eviscerate, to Edwin, to Swindle are awkward to do on turn 2. Even with the more modern 1-mana combo cantrips Rogue has, it's rare you play two of them in your t2 because you want to activate combo on both.

spot on about rogue, but warlock hero power in arena just feels like it doesn't do enough. it sounds ridiculous, but drawing from your deck is just so much worse than generating value, and the way you want to build warlock is usually mostly tempo, unless your card quality is just through the roof. that said, you often end up just tempoing out, tapping away and spending your deck and life total while some clown mage just keeps doing what you're doing with half the resources you're spending. how warlock goes deep in arena is insane card quality and card gen, not tempo/life gain and tapping. the tapping strat worked wonders when power level and discover was lower, but it no longer feels like it works at all, you just wanna get ahead by playing stronger cards not more cards.

honestly i heavily disagree on the rogue point. like yes rogue has bad turn 2s but that doesnt change that its a strong hp in a vacuum and it only builds on the hp that it helps fill out the weak curve of the class. Like if you look at it its demon hunter hero power*2. yes its a lower value hp because it costs more to do the same thing twice, but its still really good. then you add that rogue has attack synergies, weapon synergies, kinda weak turn 2, and its like a slightly weaker DH HP. me personally id have put it in low A below hunter and warlock.

Reason DK is leagues better than mage ping. You gain a corpse, you can buff it, there are many more tools like shifting it into a 4/5 rush with a few cards and a location, can target minions that have “cannot be attacked by hero powers or spells”, it has undead tag. Im sure im missing more but just wayyy better

The corpse part is the most relevent. Thats why its S-tier. Without that i'd argue theyre about the same level. Mage might actually be slightly better because it can bypass taunts. Arguing that you can buff dk's hp doesnt matter because you can also buff Mage's hp and Rarran rated them in a vacuum so that part doesnt even matter.

Mainly in arena just the threat of priest's hero power to heal their minion is enough to deny bumping or dealing partial damage to a minion when you would want to do that against any other opponent.

I think they changed it specifically because of Odd Shaman, which could handpick, you guessed it, the spell damage totem. It was really strong in Wild at that time from what I remember, so it was one of the rare times where they nerfed or banned sth in Wild.

There's something to be said about using Rogue's hero power and then holding it off for later turns for when it's more useful or to use it immediately for face damage or spot removal.

I agree with most of the list, except Warrior. That class has historically had way more good aggro decks than control decks, and in aggro decks it always feels terrible to hero power, sometimes it almost feels like admitting defeat. Even now in enrage warrior (which is tempo, not aggro but still) when I hero power it feels sooo bad.

The way, atleast so far, DK relies on hero power for the corpse mechanic, i would put his as the top one. It's not that there's a deck or archetipe around it, but a deeper stronger synergy with a class element/identity that no other class has.

Good point but I'd argue they all provide the classes a base line identity such as hunter closing out games from multiple positions. The dk hero power just has more card synergies than other hps and I can def see how youd say its the top one.

The totems should either be on a rotation, or it should show you which totem you're getting next. Imagine if the Rogue hero power could give you a 0/3, 1/2, or a 2/1 dagger, or the druid hero power could be split like 0/2, 1/1. 2/0. It's a horrible rng fest.

Rogue is easily A tier. Basically DH HP x2 that can be buffed. Miracle Rogue exists for so long because Rogue can dagger on 2 and its not bad.

So the following tier list ideas come to mind: discounted hero powers from Genn, Upgraded from Baku or Justicar, the Uldum quest hero powers, all the hero card powers, and then all the wacky ones like shadowform and dinomancy.

Tier list looks great. Only thing i would have put Warrior a couple places lower. Any Hero power that can deal damage are automatically better than warrior imo. The amount of times i have needed the 1 extra damage from a hero power for lethal is way higher than you think. Plus it can help interacting with the board giving u favourable trades. Warrior does none of that.

i dont really remember much when i first played this game back in the day however i do remember always picking paladin deck for only one reason which was a card that change my paladin knights into these small purple knight and i just feel in love with them, i didnt really care if i won or lost i was mostly trying to see if i can pull the card before getting recked in battle

I mean rarran says that he doesn't count the package, but puts dk above mage, when without(!) other cards it almost every time worse unless something has spell immune. Thqt being said, of course dk can benefit from buffs in far more scenarios than obscure wild fire for mage and therefore still much better. But if you count it for one class, you gotta count it for everyone or rate every hero power in vacuum

If Shaman's is bad because it's only good in totem decks then Warrior's is because it's only good in control. They were historically the biggest finley users, it's definitely weaker than all of the ping classes in a vacuum

The only time I really like doing a Mage hero power is when you are reverberating a powerful minion and you can just ping it off, but over all the ping has saved my life in many games with strong minions that have one life left and you need to survive one more turn. You don't realize how much you miss it until you don't have it because of anomolies.

I think Warrior hero power is weird, cause it is only good for control~y styles. Tap, Ghoul or DH are also good in aggressive/tempo strategies. Warrior hero power is the worst for tempo/aggro warrior. Paladin HP generally feels good. Its not great, but it generally helps out in most paladin strategies - their aggressive decks generally use buffs for reach, which is great with guys. In general, I think the ping hero powers are the ones that influenced hearthstone the most. They even added 2 more pings to the game to boot.

It is a sin that Druid got as high as c tier. It doesn’t tempo like rogue, it doesn’t aggro like hunter, it doesn’t give safety like mage, it doesn’t defend or heal like priest or warrior, it’s just mediocre at everything all around. The one armor does fucking nothing, it’s a worse rogue heropower/mage heropower/demon hunter heropower/death knight heropower. When’s the last time a deck ran a bunch of minions with 0 attack so Druid benefitted from the armor gain? Literally fucking never.

I mean it's hard to fully discount the Corpses for DK even in a vacuum given how core to the class and prominent across most decks the mechanic is, unlike Totems which are literally just used for one archetype (two arguably if you count Evolve), so I really don't think this is a fair one-to-one comparison. Also, you can buff a cheap Charge minion multiple ways in one turn, in large amounts, for burst or removal, while it's a lot harder to do so with a ping that only has very limited ways of dealing more than 1 damage, and rarely if ever more than 2 or 3, so even without taking into account Corpses I don't agree with your assessment.

@@badwulff I was not just talking about Corpses. Your argument is using different cards to buff the charge minion but that's still not in a vacuum. If we are just looking at the hero power and no buffs, synergy, or class mechanics then it's still a slightly worse mage hero power due to to the fact that it can't get past taunts. You can argue all day that you can buff the Ghoul, but if you use that argument then you have to use that with every hero power (mage, paladin, druid, shaman). That's the point of my comment. Sorry you can't read properly.

@@Castoma Why is a hypothetical buff a "different card", and yet a Taunt being hypothetically on board not? You have to define what "in a vacuum" means if you want to do this, and pretending that buff cards don't exist while Taunt minions do and are present on board means you haven't properly done so. To me, "in a vacuum", in this context, is the question: what does pressing the Hero Power do for the Hero? And you can't really answer that question without taking into account the basic characteristics of each Hero Power. If you use the argument that Taunts are obstacles to minions, it means that you're looking at what distinguishes minions from something like the ping - one of the things which distinguishes them is the fact that the minions have an Attack (and Health) value that can be readily buffed, that's quite literally a core part of what makes a minion alongside the fact they must attack Taunt. In other words, a Taunt minion being in the way is a _possible_ disadvantage that's not inherent to the Hero Power itself, but is part and parcel of the fact that a minion is being used to attack. A buff being usable is the exact same thing, except it's an advantage rather than a disadvantage. And yes, you can and should also take into account that sort of very basic element with the other Hero Powers. My only gripe with your presentation was the fact that you didn't do so for DK when comparing it to Mage.

Death Knight, Demon Hunter, Mage, Paladin, Rogue and Druid are all quite similar exchanging mana for damage. Death Knight is probably the best because it synergizes best with it's hero power, and charge is nice. Rogue, Demon Hunter and Hunter all get cheaper damage (2 damage for 2 mana). Mage goes anywhere regardless of taunt, and doesn't hurt you to attack. Paladin gains permanence. Druid gets health. The problem with Rogue is that they have incredible weapons in most releases and with a weapon up, their hero power becomes useless. Maybe its time to bring back the original Rogue hero power that could add +1 to the damage of any equipped weapon. I think Shaman, Warrior and Priest are all horrible because they change the board state very minimally. I agree with your analysis about Warlock, but I think it still should be above demon hunter.

I must say i'bias BUT hear me out. The ptential that rouge's one has to be played on one turn and then be combined with combos on other turns in which u don't have to spend those two mana it's a big part of what enables the class to combo off so early. Because of this i wuold put it in A tier

Priest? What are you smoking. It's been a worse armour up because priest decks that had a board were barely a thing until stormwind, when you replace the hero power. And overheal priest has been underwhelming. Imo d tier hero power but maybe rarrans right idk

@@juliandacosta6841 Perhaps I'm misremembering, but from what I can recall, back when I played - that is before Naxxramas, Priest's Hero power was considered very strong in arena, because it helped you trade efficiently, which next to card draw, was the most important aspect of arena gameplay. For the same reason (and of this I am sure) the warrior Hero power was considered by far the worst, because it had 0 influence on the state of the board. Hunter's hero power was the second worst, because it at least helped you finish the game if you ran out of gas

That being said, I even checked some data and I was still wrong about the priest hero power, even in the early days of HearthStone it was a pretty weak hp, the class was 3rd or 4th worst in arena... So yeah, my memory must have been influenced by my bias towards the class. Though we were thinking about other categories, you were still right. Rogue > D tier Paladin > D tier Shaman > C tier Mage > C tier That'd be my changes Rogue is kind of just a worse mage ping that makes you take damage. If you gotta use it, you're probably having to use it on minions which isn't great Paladin is just summoning the worst shaman totem Shaman is random but DOES save your ass sometimes when you get a taunt, or can be annoying to deal with if you get a heal totem Mage one isn't bad but is just quite costly for what it really does. Having to use it should mean that you're either behind or you really have got nothing good to do with your mana

dk hero power gives you a undead minion you can transform into 4/5s and if it dies you get 1 corpse, also infuses and it activates any cards that wants undead minions to die.

Equip Dagger taking the weapon slot is pretty bad unless it's to hide your Kingsbane from Stickyfingers. I never feel good using it on Rogue and wasting weapon buffs on a 2 durability weapon makes me feel worse. Current weapon tutoring makes it even less impactful.

The ghoul can be buffed by things like skeletal sidekick so it can deal more than 1 damage. That said, gaining a corpse should not be underestimated. It can be really impactful.

imo warlock and hunter >DK,something about a 2 dmg guarantee every turn creates a lot of pressure and a card draw thats guaranteed is also too good, i havent had a game where DK HP won me the game, but ive had plenty where hunger and warlkock HP won me the game

Upgraded shaman hero power is beyond garbage compared to every other upgraded hero power and even worse after losing the spell totem

Rarran with literally every class, "there's better stuff that you can do with two mana." Well, duh! If hero powers were better than two mana cards, nobody would use two mana cards in their decks.

mage is strictly better than DK hero power. "We're talking strictly about the hero power" Proceeds to rate DK hero power based on corpses, and rogue's based on needing to save their cards for combos.

priest hero power is complete trash easy d tier, and the druid one as well. These classes are literely never have somewhat okay decks in the meta, they are either complete garbage or broken. That is how it is been through all hearthstone. PS new HP are fucking absurd comparing them to the old ones kekw

they should change shaman hero power to "choose 2 totems out of 4 choices. you get one of those two, at random" and also allow it to create two totems of the same type(if you already have one, you still can create another one)

they just need to buff the totems, make them 1/2 searing, heal all characters, 0/3 taunt, the buff one is fine

The Hunter hero power used to be strong but now it's by far one of the worst. Also, the hunter class was initially designed as the ultimate control class lol, and the HP was your way to slowly whittle down your opponent.

Think there’s an argument to be made to make Paladin’s hero power go to 1 mana, considering just how much better Deathknight’s is in comparison.

rogue hero power is easy s tier it's the exact same value as demon hunter but you can set it up ahead of time so some situation's it's better some it's worse mage is right behind death night as the ping effect is more flexible (doesn't get blocked by taunt) but it has less overall value as dk gets way to much use out of an additional corpse

The worst hero power: priest. The only class that can do nothing on turn 2. Any other class can do "something". The only class that becomes a keyword for the hero power: "overheal" because the hero power is so incredible bad

not putting Rogue's hero power into A-Tier is probably the only issue I have with this list. Rogue's hero power was most likely the reason why it was one of the best classes if not the best class in early Arena.

Idk what kinda rouge rarren has been playing. I’ve been playing since old Gods and even when I had nothing else to do on my turn it still felt like shit to hit the button. He mentioned decks that rely on you attacking but those decks revolves around drawing a weapon, using buffs on your HP felt like shit.
