I was 14 the first time I tried to commit suicide, I’m so thankful I’m still here today because I wouldn’t have been able to have my little boy. He’s showed me what love really means❤️

Billy, I tried to cut my wrists before. Suffering with my demons, with in PTSD from things that happened while in the military. After 30 years of suffering Saught out help with my VA psychologist. And finally living my life again!! All I can say as a Veteran, if you have these feelings call the VA hotline or text them!! It helps and with proper treatment you CAN get your life back!!

It is actually up 57 % this year. My son died January 2015 of suicide. This song makes me think of him. I started a foundation for scholarships in his name.

Thank you for reacting to this. I battle really bad depression and anxiety. I constantly fight the urge to self harm and I have suicidal thoughts a lot when I get really down. I love this song. The very end of this song where they go 'they lied' and the rest of it always seems to give me a little hope and I have to keep reminding me that no matter how bad it seems, it's really not that bad.

In my line of work (Fire Dept. and EMS) last year in 2019 their were only 58 line of duty deaths, but 113 suicides. PTSD, struggling to pay the bills, it’s tough. I’ve lost too many friends and comrades to this shit, and this goes for everyone regardless, talk to someone and get help, please

I was suicidal in the 8th grade and I talked to my teacher and councilor at the time and they let my mom know and they all got me the help I needed and got me an out of school counselor and she helped me a lot and now I am 27 married and have three kids

I was struggling with suicidal thought for the past few years I lost a lot of friends and family in a short span of time. And it felt like nothing was going right. I had all symptoms listed in the video except for actually attempting suicide. And now I'm glad I didnt.

I was 12 the first time. Depression is so overwhelming. Not only is it related to life situations, it is also a genetic trait. When someone gets hit with both, being a child feeling alone in the world, there aren't many options. I have spent years in therapy and trying to find a solution. The scars on my body are constant reminders. But, I am still here and will continue to be after finding a great therapist.

I know this is about suicide. But I interpret it differently. I hear it and think of my husband that passed from a sudden heart attack at 41. He was a singer. We ran karaoke shows, he sure knew how to draw a crowd. Never met a stranger. He left the stage on the middle of a song.

I lost my sister almost 4 years ago. The PTS is something me and my youngest nephew are still working on. I ask my self why all the time. At her memorial service there was standing room only and it's the reason I'm in a suicide awareness group raising funds. Please if you need help get help please. Think of the ones that love you. I been fighting depression since I was 14 it hard at times I thank god for my kids

When my youngest graduated high school, she’d already had lost 4 friends to suicide. It broke her heart, it broke mine. We did not have an easy go of things. I was a single mom with 3 daughters, receiving no assistance nor support. But no matter how hard things got, I was completely honest and open with them. And from day one gave them unconditional love. I had no answers for her then, I have none now. I simply don’t understand how someone can think there’s nothing worth living for. I don’t know if I’m just too stubborn or hopelessly optimistic? I can and do have empathy. I honestly believe every soul is precious and here for a reason. I’m glad you can, did and are willing to be open about your journey and did this one. Blessed be ❤️

My Dad took his life last year in September. The question why has been there since day one and everyday since. The guilt of not doing more and what ifs is hard to deal with at times. This song sums up the way I feel daily.

Hello, I have been watching your music reaction videos for a while now. And tonight as I sit in the bed I get on RU-vid and the first thing I see is your reaction to Rascal Flatts Why song. My brother my baby brother committed suicide in 2013 he was 36 years old. I'm really not sure why he did it he sent me the last text not really saying he was going to do it that kind of saying it. This song has been my song to him since the day he committed suicide. And you reacting to it brought me to tears.I just wanted to say thank you for reacting to that song. Not a lot of people have heard that song but I has a whole lot of meaning to it. I talked about suicide a lot on my Facebook and a lot on my Instagram I try to. And I keep my baby brother in my heart and my mind every second of every day I miss him it will be or it was six years on June 10th of this year he has been gone. I'm 30 now and listening to songs like this break my heart because I was this kid. I couldn't talk to my parents or anyone (mental illness was a taboo subject in our house) and everything got too much for me. Looking back now, I wish I'd had a song like this. It hurts me to know that there are kids still suffering like this.

This Is Very True Cause Since I Was Middle I Wented All Of The Pain To Go Away I Have A Social Disorder And Bad Anxiety At Time But Everyday I Tell Myself It Will Get Better And My Friends Are The Reason To Keep Going.

I was 8 the first time I attempted. I fought for years tried drugs, alcohol, self harm, anything I could think of to get through it. I was finally able to see a therapist at 18 after my now husband forced me to give up my bad "coping" habits. I was diagnosed with Depression, Severe Anxiety, and PTSD among other things. My doctors told me if I'd been able to get help sooner it would never have gotten as bad as it did. I hope more parents and teachers help children with these issues.

Coming from someone who has experienced many of the things mentioned in this video understand that most depressed people feel like they either can’t talk about it or they feel feel like there is no point. Depression is something that completely controls your emotions, your thoughts and your outlook on life. Severe cases of depression can have certain people hearing voices in their head telling them they are no good because that’s all they have been told all their life. Instead of getting them to talk to you. You talk to them. Make sure they know they are loved. Surround them with nothing but care but the worst thing you can do is force someone to talk about their problems. It makes it worse. They will talk when they are ready. Until then show the love and be there for them

This song hits home every time. My cousin passed away and was released of his addiction which was secondary to multiple mental health illnesses. This song was played at his funeral along with a slideshow of his life from infancy to before he was taken from this earth.

My baby brother left in the middle of his song at the age of 44. He was beautiful and vibrant and so full of life until he got injured. He lived with unbearable pain. So much so that he thought ending his life was his only way out. Without the help of God and one really good counselor, I would have left with him. For anyone who feels that suicide is your way out, please, please, please know that you are worthy, you have so much value! Someone loves you so much that their life would be devastated without you!

I always ask myself why all the time, I been dealing with depression since grade school, now I'm 20 and gradated school in 2017, the June 9th 2017 around 9 am my uncle passed away, I watched him pass away, me and him had a good bond. it been 2 years, I have flash backs on that day everyday, My depression got worse. Omg I never heard this song before, needless to say I'm crying while I am writing this... Both me and my 17yr old son are both deeply depressed. After we lost his father / my husband and our twins I was 7. 5 months pregnant i lost them... We we're a family of 5 and in a blink of a eye we became a family of 2.... All due to a junky who was shooting up drugs while driving and crossed lanes into the opposite direction ( were we were driving ) the thing is you can't ever get the pictures of going threw that, can't stop being angry.... The driver who killed 3 members of my family and he and his passenger walked away with minor injuries.... When we( me and my 5yr old ) went to court... I thought they would go to prison for 3 counts of murder.... That didn't happen... They only got 3yrs and 7yrs probation after there released.... Me and my son will never be free... We will be in prison of our own mind that doesn't ever release each of us... After loosing my family I wanted too go with them I didn't want to live in this world alone, I was scared too death of being a single mom, now he's old enough to drive... Guess what plays over and over again... My biggest fear is him dying and me left here alone.... Suicide doesn't have a age range or exactly same reason person to person.... Suicide and mental health in general most people who have never lived a moment in the shoes of someone like me.... They can't understand or know how I feel.... How exactly can someone who is living the high life with everything they want.... How can they see life through our eyes??? Answer : they can't and the books they read telling them how people with mental health issues must feel, what to say or not to say.... BOOKS CAN'T HELP SOMEONE STAY ALIVE NOT GIVE UP AND FEEL LOST ALONE AND UNWANTED....

I literally ask this question of my cousin nearly every day....this is a song that pulls at my heart string every time I hear it.....my cousin committed suicide in 2010.....growing up me and him were "thick as thieves" basically attached at the hip...then in his late teens he got into a very dark place due to a drug addiction...as a family we tried everything we could think of to get him to get clean and help him but nothing worked.....then he went to jail and that was basically the end of everything for him cause he got out and not long after he committed suicide.....thank you billy for doing a reaction to this song

I wouldn't have been here. My friend is the reason I'm alive. He saw the signs no one else did He told my family what he thought, and I was able to get the help I needed. 8 years later, and I'm about to become his wife. He will always be my angel sent to me at my worst time.

My daughter took her life on October 26, 2016. She was abused by her stepfather and mother. I miss her everyday. I have such hate in my heart and I know that I need to purge it, but it is so hard. I deal with depression everyday, and if I didn't have my wife and her sisters, I fear I would have followed her. This is also a problem among veterans too.

I battled suicidal ideation and self harm for many years, starting at age 12 in response to abuse. I've tried 4 times between 15 and 46 to commit suicide, and thankfully I was privileged enough to get the help I needed. I still fight, but I also don't have to remind myself that life is worth living. Please seek help if you need it, you ARE worth it!

Depression is no joke, match that up with anxiety and you have a huge concern. Never feeling like you are good enough. Feeling like you have to prove yourself and when you fail you are a failure. Feeling like a burden to others. Feeling like others are better off without you. I'm not suicidal by any means but the curiosity is there.

I've suffered from depression and suicidal thoughts since I was 12 (I'm 24 now). When I talk about it, people always think I'm just joking because I've learnt to hide it. I had managed to calm it down for 4 years, almost 5 until something happened that broke me and it's only gotten worse. Fortunately, I no longer try to go through with it. Unfortunately, it has more to do with the fact that I don't want to leave my niece and nephew rather than because I actually don't want to.

Billy, thank you, my wife committed suicide, she was a disabled Army vet, 22 vets a day is to many. My daughters and I got involved with The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, and i am shocked at how many kids attempt and or have committed suicide. It’s people like you, that choose to take an uncomfortable topic and not only play the song but show emotion and concern. You don’t blow it off you address it and provide better options. You have no idea how much it means to me.

I've been fighting the silent fight since I was 8. I'm still fighting the silent fight at 24. When I met my husband things got better but when he was deployed my mind took a turn for the worst. The thing that sucks about this alot of people never show signs. If you met me you would never know that for the past almost 20 years I've fought myself almost everyday. 8-10 therapist and 7 medication that all eventually stopped working later I'm still somehow still here. Married and expecting our first baby Sept 1st and for once the thoughts are quiet somehow. Honestly I struggle with anxiety, major depressive disorder, dissociative disorder, social anxiety and social phobia.

For veterans: don't believe the bad press VA has received. I got out of the army in 2013, and just recently got in to VA healthcare. They found health issues in just 30 days that civilian doctors couldn't find in years.

I had a friend big time let me down, and lied to me over and over. I finally told him he was dead to me because I couldn't stand anymore. A few months later, he was dead. How? Suicide and the last words I spoke to him were "you're dead to me" then he was. It's heavy, but there's nothing I can do now.

They made this song after their bass player committed suicide. Very sad. I've battled with depression since I was around 13. I'm 26 now and still fight it everyday. My dad was a retired military man and on January 3rd 2015 he lost his battle with PTSD and committed suicide. I miss him everyday he missed my high school graduation and now he's not here for my wedding it's hard sometimes.....
