Yeah man, I totally agree... Since I saw Rascalz warm up for Common here in Copenhagen, Denmark, back in 97 (or was it 98?), I just knew that their album would be straight up fire. I found the album Cash Crop on a trip to Tallinn, the capital city of Estonia, and I just couldn't stop listening to it on the Discman non stop, nostalgia.....
You see now this is what I'm talkin about. This takes me back! What I love about Rascalz is that at one point they were very consistent in having b-boys in their music videos. One of the classic music videos that helped inspire me to get into breaking. This is back when I felt bad any time I missed an episode of rapcity on much. Now I don't care.
@area51er6 it's changed so much since this video man. I miss the Vancouver I moved to 13 years ago. This city for whatever reason is so quick to sell it's past and it's soul down the tubes for more glass, steel and concrete.
Damn its a shame i don't know about more Canadian it hip hop.....it just about seems like when real hip hop stop getting aired so did canadian hip hop :p haha
I'm blasting this out in 2020 too but it's the first I'm hearing it and I'm wondering how did I miss this back jn the days. Amazing how a tune from 20+ yrs ago can sound so fresh!!
Cash Crop is one of my favorite hip hop albums of all time. It's a shame the Rascalz didn't have more success than they did (especially on a global scale) I came across them by accident. They had all the ingredients for being a massive hit, yet I don't know a single person outside of Canada that's heard of them. I must have played this album a thousand times over. It seems arbitrary, but if they came from the United States, they would have blown up the way other groups did. In terms of talent, they're up there with the likes of A Tribe Called Quest, Gangstarr, the Pharcyde, De La Soul, Wu Tang, the Fugees, Naughty by Nature, Mischief Crew, and Mobb Deep. They should have been promoted differently. It's a missed opportunity. Rap music these days has had a sharp decline. There are still a few gems to be found, but it'll never be like it was. It's a bummer.
