I'm going to miss you Eric. Thank You, for all the great music. Love You, always. Rest in peace, lovely and sweet soul. You're singing with the angels now. 🌹
Dear Eric, We, your friends, fans, and family want to thank you for your musicianship, songwriting, producing, music, making that GRAND PIANO 🎹 actually weep during "All By Myself", "The Raspberries 1970-1975", and still the GREATEST POP ROCK for the last 56 years! We have just found out that you "slipped away quietly" on March 10, 2024. Condolences to your wife Amy, your children Clayton & Kathryn, your brother Fred(Karen) and your niece and nephew. I can already see the Glorious, Joyful, Sweeping Melodies you are playing to worship our creator and atonement for sin, Jesus!❤ Sending you unconditional ❤️ love for writing ✍️ the soundtrack to our lives through your vast music catalog. See you on the Heaven side, dear friend.
So beautiful, sad, and somehow a symphony in guitar all at once. It always gives me the chills ever since I heard it on the radio when it first came out. Their voices and music are truely eternal. Im so thankful to have lived & listened to the best bands and singers during the best time of the rock and roll era. The Raspberries are pure gold.
It's entirely legit to say that Eric is a 'pitch perfect' singer. And this song is a true opus: nearly five major tempo/key changes and I love him at the piano. Makes it easier to see how he owns the music
I was the A&R Man at Capitol Records back then when Jimmy Ienner brought me the demo tape of them I was sold immediately! I said to Herb Belkin, my boss at the time, we have to sign this group! He said, "Would you bet your JOB On it?" I said YES! Are you sure? Yes! Absolutely!!! They also have a surprise for you! They know you! What I said? You'll meet them on Monday! I was perplexed to say the least! Monday came around and three members of the group, THE CHOIR, walked into my office! My God! They had recorded one of my songs, called "Changing My Mind" a follow up to their hit, "Baby It's Cold Outside" Top 40 Hit! I was flabbergasted to say the least! Jimmy, Myself, Jimmy's brother, Donny Ienner and Herb Belkin all picked, "Go All The Way" as their 1st single release. We actually got Flack from the west coast people to pick something else! WHAT? We had to compromise unfortunately and agree on an other song, "to lay the ground work" they said. it was, "Don't Want To Say Goodbye", nice song but not a Top 10 record! Maybe top 40? I was pissed to say the least, threatened to quit! After a month, "Go All The Way" came out but I left anyway! I had previously sent them, "Dancing In The Moonlight" that the Schwartz Bros.(Laurie Records) gave me. WEST Coast A&R Turned it down! Political crap! I had to go! Belkin wound up signing them on the West Coast, no mention of me! He got all the credit as he became General Manager. See this and other stories, behind the scenes in a book I'm writing which will hopefully come out in February 2023! Talk to you then! Richie Grasso
@richardgrasso4099. Thank you for advocating for them. You are a smart, good man. I am so incredibly sad that there will not be any more "original Raspberries" music coming out. Eric was a one in a billion artist and he's singing now in Heaven. I'm thankful that we had the Raspberries and Eric Carmen. They were/are a feast for the eyes, ears, and heart. I would love to purchase your book if it's out there yet. You sound like a fascinating man with a great story. Thank you again, and God bless.
I just had to watch it yet again...I remember them doing this live in one of their last gigs in Cleveland. Tears filled my eyes...it was always such a beautiful song!
@@Chief2Moon I still have Realistic 8 track play record player from late 70s and a Motorola 8 track player that was in my Firebird. Still have the Firebird too.
He’s a genius. This song has 4 different Melodie’s from a ballad to a rock in roll.I can’t describe it.I wish we were back in the 70’s and 80’s so I would have seen one of his concerts.
Marilyn: At the risk of showing my age. I saw the Raspberries back in 1971 (before their 1st album was released) at a Trinity High School (Garfield Heights, OH) concert...lol. Then years later in 2003 (I think) when they had a reunion concert here in Cleveland. Both gigs they were awesome! Really wish they had stayed together for more years than they did. Awesome songs on those first 4 albums.
Dear Eric you left us heartbroken, your music and melodies were beautiful there will not be another Eric you will be madly missed by your fans Rest in Peace dear and wonderful man❤
People really didn't realize how really talented these guys were. With me being a pianist, the piano playing and cord changes through this song were incredible and can I add the tempo changes were insane....
Eric was a music prodigy from a very young age. He grew up to be an stunning man, with a magical mind for lyrics and a glorious voice. Miss you already.
A huge fan of your musical career, Thank You for bringing great joy and happiness in your music to myself and many Your music will continue to live on I'll Always Remember R.I.P.
This tune belongs in the annals of all the great “rock opera” or “art rock” pieces, w all the complex chord/key changes, different movements & time sigs, and KILLER melody/harmony holding it all together. Just whoa...
Absolutely! Although, in the best of all worlds, "I Can Remember" would've opened the first album (instead of closing it) and "Overnight Sensation" would've closed the last (instead of opening it); had that happened, their two greatest "mini symphonies" would've truly bookended their recording career.
Perhaps the greatest power pop masterpiece ever! One of my top ten favorite songs of all-time (and I go back to the British Invasion days). LOVE this song and live performance.
Such tender singing & piano playing by Eric to open this classic Raspberries piece. It gets me in the gut every time I listen to it, but even more so to see it live?! Wow! When it transitions to the upbeat rhythmic section, that’s just genius music composition right there. As Eric said, “Not bad for a bunch of 20 year olds!” Gotta love drummer Jim’s masterful handling of the tempo changes, and Dave & Wally rocking out down front!
Eric died seven months ago in his sleep. As a fan I am still in love with his memory. He was still hot at age 64 when this performance occurred. We miss you, Eric!
I was at this show in Atlantic City in 2005. It was amazing, as you see here. I was so impressed with The Raspberries, who had somehow escaped my musical taste in the 70s and 80s. I'm thankful I saw them live. They truly sounded incredible on every song.
@@michaelbuday5630Thank you for posting the info on when this concert took place. I was about to ask in the comments! I want to see if I can find the full concert. The quality of this video seems professionally recorded! Thank youuuuu💝
Who moshes at a Raspberries concert and to "I Can Remember"? This is why alcohol should not be sold at concerts. Just bring weed in like we did back in the 70s. I wanted to attend the shows at the House of Blues but it cost too much money. Airfare, hotel, travel, concert ticket, meet and greet, that was close to $1000 I couldn't afford. I was very lucky to see Raspberries in the 70s, I will never forget that show. I was 14, sitting behind the stage because my cheap stepfather bought crappy tickets. Eric turned around during "Let's Pretend" and addressed my sister and I, who had to look at his ass throughtout the whole show. Believe my Eric, it was my pleasure. Providence, RI I think it was 1973 or 74. My very first job, I bought the Raspberries first album with my first paycheck. "memories, memories" "I Can Remember" was always my #1 favorite.
@NanaWildlowers. It sounds to me like you maybe had the best seats in the house. I wish I could have spent the night watching E.C.'s hind quarters. I'm only kind of kidding. You were blessed to have a great memory of a great night. I was never able to see them, and so sadly I never will. Eric Carmen was inspired and a master. Of composing and singing. What a voice! The perfect voice. I'm heartbroken I have to wait to hear more from him till I get to the other side. God bless you, and thank you for the great story ❤️
When that beautiful man hits those high notes, my heart soars. I pray I'll see him on the other side. What a gift to the world God created when he made Eric Carmen. He makes our time here on earth SO MUCH RICHER. Thank you Lord, and thank you Eric❤
Back when music involved playing musical instruments and actually singing into microphones. I miss those days! I'm from Cleveland and took pride in being from the same town as the Raspberries!
sounds as beautiful now as they did back in 72 when I first heard it. I grew up loving you guys and now that I'm older I respect them even more they are brilliant. love you Eric
Wow, I really wanted to see these guys on what looks to be their final tour. I think they sound better then they did in 1973!!! Just awesome, I got chills. They are everything an American pop band should and could be. Thanks for the great music Eric, Wally, Dave and Jim. Hopefully one day, when the Biebers and the Miley's go away, American music can be memorable again....
The Biebers & the Mileys definitely need to go away...and NOW!!! It's sad to think they'll be the faces of music when all the old-time rock & rollers like The Raspberries pass away (which I hope won't be for a long time yet). Old-time music of this type needs to make a comeback, and with newer groups performing it, too...and not the tripe that plagues the industry now. Bravo, Eric, Wally, Dave & Jim!!!
I agree, I feel the same way. Eric and the Raspberries were amazing. Eric’s song and performance of The Way We Used To Be leaves me with tears every time I play it!! I’m much older and am so happy that I can enjoy his music. He is truly a musical genius!!👍🏻
While I liked their radio hits when I was growing up, I did not realize there was a lot more depth and complexity to their music. I'm a fan all over again
Everytime i hear this song i cant help but remember the times that will never comeback. high school days mostly. thank you for the memories Raspberries!
Simply Awesome!! They don't make music like this anymore. The Raspberries are one of my favorite bands. To me, they were The Beatles of the 70's. Wish they would do one more album & final tour. I believe the creativity is still in them.
I took my daughter to this show on new years eve in Cleveland . She was front and center. She was just in high school but loved this band. The best thing I ever done for her. My family saw them again later. I will take my family to see them again, hopefully soon!
They were a great band and had a distinctive sound, too bad they didn't stay together. This has always been one of my favorites by them. Thanks for adding this performance.
Bom dia!
I've recently discovered this song ... and in the moments when I started to think "ok, a nice rock'n roll ballad", another musical idea or harmonic change came as a surprise. Indeed that's big progressive pop!
