Dude (and I mean that with great respect) you are the man. I started out back in the 70's with the TRS80 then the TI 99/4a from the I went to the Ohio Scientific unit with the 3 processors (6505 / 6800 / Z80) with a Winchester 74meg hard drive that was bigger than a dell rack mount blade server. I remember the lights dimming when I power it on. Then of course the IBM PC (win95) up to now the Win 10. I've learned programing in all those CPU so when I bought the first Rasp for so reason I was lost nothing seem to work right from download to installing. 67 years old and this You Tube was a great answer to understanding the process. Thank you so much. I'm big into Hydroponics and now I think I can use the Rasp to help with my system. Ordering the Canakit and the Ultimate Starter Kit.
Jeff Geerling sums the raspberry pi up right. It's for tinkering. Both of you explain well what you explain but i'm not yet ready to enter a monestry to free up time to tinker and work my way to a phd.
If Windows has (openssh) you need to figure out where you can save the ssh config, on linux this is ~/.ssh/config. You can than add something ala Host pi, User pi, Hostname ip.ad.re.ss and be done with it. Although Putty is also nice, with putty -load session-name
Chris, from my many years of tech support, may I make a suggestion? When you are telling people what to type in and want them to create a space, actually tell them. Say "whatever ... SPACE ... whatever".
Ik weet dat ik misschien niet goed genoeg voor dit ben maar ik weet wel dat ik mee moet wil werken om mijn eigen chauffeurs te kunnen gaan maken om beter anti scurtis offerte hebben
I got my pie last week and the guide said to put the smallest heat sync on the chip behind the usb 3.0 ports but you got it behind usb type c port. Which is right
Thanks for doing this tutorial, I have always wanted to have a go at computer programming and projects but never had the guts to do so as I am 61 years old and dyslexic , I have problems spelling IT never mind doing it, but now feel it is time to have a go, so Raspberry Pi added to Christmas wish list.
FYI Picked up a CanaKit Raspberry Pi 4 (4GB). And it included Samsung EVO+ 64GB MicroSD w/NOOBS. Not sure if you got a old kit or not. Thanks for sharing your ideas Last point. Tell people to put that Pi in its case before plugging everything in. I can’t tell you how many people I know that have blown up there Pi by shorting it out by having A piece of metal touching the backplate. You have a great channel, keep up the good work!
Hello, there is one big moment, because of which I spent few days trying to make it work: if you have SD card with size more then 32 gb, SD card Formatter tool will format it as exFAT, but Raspberry can understand just FAT32/FAT16. When you download NOOBs, there is READ ME, there is provided instruction for case when SD card is over 32 GB size. Please, please, please tell us more about the way you use Raspberry pi as monitoring tool for your /clients network.
One of the best tutorials I have seen on RU-vid in any category. Very nicely done, even down to the speedup indicators on your video! Thanks, this helps quite a bit.
If I have an SD card that is already formatted and blank then I don't have to use your format utility, right? In which case I would just copy the rasperry OS install files in file mangler. Right? I'm used to having to format /s or something to make an installation partition bootable. I'm guessing the raspberry doesn't need a system disk to boot then. There just needs to be files present to boot and not slipped in during a special format. And I'm assuming it could be done with a USB flash drive and not necessarily an SD card. Yes? And thank you for the video.
For those of you coming coming to this in the present day, I am just starting as of 2023... Noobs seems to be replaced. "What Happened to NOOBS? First launched in 2013, NOOBS (New Out Of Box Software) was designed to make installing an operating system on a Raspberry Pi easy. But in 2020, Raspberry Pi Imager was released. This features most of the same functionality as NOOBS, while adding support for larger SD cards." So basically Raspberry Pi Imager is equivalent to Noobs, as the link on his blog post doesn't bring you to download Noobs anymore, just the many options of OS downloading for the Pi.
Hey guys, for a couple of ideas, check out Vladimir Zahradnik’s article “Raspberry Pi as a home router” at Zahradnik.io, and also do a search for Pi Hole software. There is another good article on Pi Hole called “Null-routing FaceBook” in the Spring 2020 issue of 2600.
First time coming across this channel and as soon as the video started, IMMEDIATELY I was like, "why is Billy Eichner about to give me the deets on getting started with a Raspberry Pi 4"?
Great work man, Thank you, I just got mine and I am going to try to run Pi-Hole. I cant wait, thank you again. :-) Edit: Pi-Hole is up and running and it is amazing. Today is a great day ❤️
I am trying to learn to extract data from a machine (coffee sorter). It would be much appreciated if anyone who has done this kind of project can answer whether raspberry pi would be the solution for the problem that i am trying to solve? Sorry, i do not have much experience / knowledge in this topic. I want to know the learning directions i should take. Thankss
Thanks for the excellent presentation. I learned a few things. One problem I am having is that I cannot get my Raspberry Pi 4 to work with my WiFi. The Raspberry Pi 4 sees my network but it will not connect via WiFi. I'm open to suggestions.
Chris, this was brilliant! You provided everything someone with absolutely no knowledge of RasberryPi would need to start. Don’t know Python or any other language and am excited about learning that too. Looking forward to seeing what else you have and have subscribed. Thanks from a Nooby.
The "servo" you was turning is a potentiometer, a variable resistor. A servo is a device that normally physically controls something and provides feedback. An example would be computer remotely opening/closing a valve in a factory by signalling a servo called a MOV (Motor Operated Valve). The MOV would provide feedback to inform the computer how much the valve is opened. Did enjoy your video; was looking or a video to recommend to a teen interested in the Pi.
Really enjoy these types of videos you do for us. They are really nifty & appreciate the time it takes you👍🏻. There’s so many things able to do these days, & a vid like this helps those that are just starting. Hope to see some more vids going into more details, as it’s pretty cool👍🏻 Happy New Year ✌🏼
Good day to you; my 1 projet is don ras and 7 inch screen you completer a small hoops corrected from your very good video explication thank you from Robert
This was a very informative video, thank you. I don't know if you only deal with networking related stuff with the Rasberry Pi, but I would love to see you show how to set up a Rasberry Pi with an arcade unit. With video game emulators. That is the main reason I am interested in Rasberry Pi.
I find it pretty funny how everybody on RU-vid says a $35 board and when you go to buy one it says $135 and we don’t have any so where can you purchase Raspberry Pi 3B+ or 4 for $35 so stop bullshitty us!!I am pissed off people taking advantage of shortestages around the World because of Covid-19
Thanks for the explanation man, I plan to check out some of your other videos on the Raspberry Pi when it arrives in a few days! Keep up the good work!
Thank you for putting this video up. I have a much clearer understanding of the raspberry pi now. Love your detailed instructions. Liked and subscribed.
A brilliant tutorial, thank you. I've had little raspberry pi Element 14 for ages and not done anything with it. Time for this 75 year old to start playing.
Great video and very clearly explained for non technicians like me. I could all follow it up to the point where you looked at the monitor for the installations. Did you connect the monitor with the raspberry?
So you turn it on and off by unplugging the power? If you don't want to wear out the USBC port on the computer itself, couldn't you just unplug and plug back in the power adapter from the wall socket if you don't have the on off switch in the cable?
You mention you use Raspberry PI s as network monitors. Any packages that you have had success with? I was hoping to implement something like that on my own network.
Purchased through your link so you get a little kickback. Building a computer for my boat using OpenCPN, Will be building another micro sd card just for that purpose.
Hey ya thanks for the vid. Just so ya know you have the 1 heat sink in the wrong place the smallest one has to go on the USB 3.0 controller chip next to the USB 3.0 ports. Its what is says in the big instruction book that comes in the box.
Totally agree! Perfect timing. Right before things start closing. If it wasnt for such a clear walk threw i probably would be still looking for another way to entertain myself. Thanks!
IF YOU HAVE A LARGE CAPACITY MICRO SD CARD, PLEASE READ THIS! As also posted below, SD Formatter will automatically format any card that is larger than 32 GB in ExFAT, which is NOT readable on the RPi4. If you have a card 32 GB or larger, you need to format it with either the native Disk Utility on a Mac -where you choose the MS-DOS (FAT) option under "Erase"- or use a Third Party app on Windows, such as FAT32 Format or MiniTool Partition Wizard Free Edition or EaseUS Partition Master Free. You can also use the Raspberry Pi Imager tool from their site. Unfortunately, I didn't read the comments below first and formatted my 64GB SDXC card with SD Formatter, transferred the NOOBS files to it, put it in my new RPi4, and no HDMI signal and no boot. Only after spending a couple of hours trying to troubleshoot and verifying that my HDMI cable was indeed working and thinking I had a defective Pi did I research and discover this fact. I re-formatted the card with Mac Disk Utility in MS-DOS (FAT) mode, re-transferred the NOOBS files, and voila, the Pi booted up just fine! This information should be added to this otherwise excellent video.
Yup. I came across it when setting up python remote debugging for raspberry pi from my windows 10 VS Code. It does miss ssh-copy-id so you need to copy the RSA key manually for passwordless login but everything else works fine.
Hi Chris, I’m 80 years old and bought a arduino but could never get it working. Spent much time on chat but could not make it work so they sent me another one. I think just to get rid of me. I have an apple desk top. Is there any instructions that i can get for a raspberry pi 4 that don’t use a language that i cant understand. That is no secret computer language. Thanks Dave
What did you buy to do this? The video sent me in the completely wrong direction and I probably wasted $150 and still need another $100 of significant parts to operate. Tell me what you acquired to get your pi “up and running in no time”
help.....i have no sound, this is my second Rasp Pi (Pi 4) all the sudden my sound went out, still have video, i have checked every sound icon i could find no joy....i will buy the Rasp Pi 5 when it comes out....thx....peace
I bought one because somebody already ported rtems (open source real-time Operating System) to the Raspberry PI, and I want to get started playing with THAT. I appreciate the video, but I am shocked and amazed that the presenter did not make a point about the ESD mat he has there and how he should not be handling the device that way if he were not grounded to the mat through his elbows (he's not wearing a wrist strap). If you did that in a dry climate (e.g. Arizona) without proper ESD protection, kiss your board goodbye.
This was well put together. Been thinking about getting rid of my old bulky desktops for something like this. Maybe even save on my electric bill.

PINN seems to be an alternative to Noobs I was going to test today. Alternatively, you can install Balena Etcher in your computer, download the full image you want to install (say raspbian full with recommended software) and "flash" it to the micro SD with etcher. To do so you just 1: select the image you downloaded, 2: select the micro SD and 3: Clic Flash! With this method you can install an Arm version of Manjaro, for example. Although Raspbian is probably the best choice anyway. Nice vid! Loved the small multi-color case.
I've found its soo much easier just the to use Raspberry imager with windows 10. I tried the whole copy paste and it just wouldnt work but the imager works great
