A fun gift idea: make this into a little safe that opens up a little register attached to the bottom of it or a panel behind it, or a usb attached safe styled like one you would find in fallout games. The owner can pick out a password using the directional buttons and has to "hack" it each time to open it. If it locks out, you have to wait a few minutes until it refreshes.
Look for any brackets that close and click them to eliminate one of the wrong choices or reset the number of tries you get. It's okay, I've seen a number of people playing Fallout that don't know how to "hack" lol
Despite what others say i think it could be cool to have an actule termanile computer i think that be cool. All in ones need some compation. But this is very awsome
In fact i stopped the video at 05:50 thinking just the same, and now i´m out...i rather build my own clone based on exact that idea, using an old C64 keyboard and a 10inch LCD and use it as an actual TerraTerm serial console.
@@frostbite1991 you do know there are other types of keyboard layout like, Dvorak, Azerty, Qwertz, Jcuken, Colemak, maltron, and workman just to name english formats. EDIT: A word
Why exactly is there so much troll hate for fallout 76? I played it at my mates joint a few times and i think it's pretty bloody good . Don't get all the sooking going on , but then again I've never really cared what others think . And I'm not twelve .
@@tamarathompson9418 Most of the issues lie with Bethesda themselves, I've played it with a few people and enjoyed it for the time we did spend playing it working together. It had potential but Bethesda keeps on messing up with countless stupid decisions which has put a massive stain on their company and this game. As for my original comment, I was just following the hate train as a meme, however I would not recommend it to someone for the price of a full retail game unless they have multiple people to play with but even then I'd still be on the wall with a recommendation.
@@SirAroace The only reason anyone would say the game is shitting on the lore, is because they haven't taken the time to realise it's actually expanding the lore. Lot of people cite the Brotherhood as being an example of the lore being shat on, but if you play the game, listen to the story and read the story available you'll realise it's a section of the USA Military from before the war, who using satellite communications became a part of the Brotherhood as it was formed. The lore wasn't fucked with it was expanded upon, giving more context to the formation of the BoS rather than FO2's "lol we exist now, this guy said let's become a religion and we did". But no it's easier to never play a game and not learn the story, than it is to play the game and learn you're wrong.
Made my own DIY mobile raspad using a 10 inch touchscreen from sunfounder. Runs on 18650 cells for more than an hour. Still a work in progress. Still need to install a bms for the batteries. I have a video posted if anyone wants to have a look.
This is what I love about Fallout 4. Sometimes the in-game creativity lets you reimagine your world around you and you get cracking on a cool project with your favorite fandom.
You should add actual terminal entries from the game. When you successfully hack it, you get a random list of entries from a random terminal in the actual game.
I mean, terminals in fallout could use alphabetical/numerical figures to represent a certain command line to access the main files and other related things, so it may not exactly be hacking but would actually be quite useful
Great project. The Fallout assets aren't useless for printing. A RU-vidr by the name of Makers Muse who is a 3d printing expert has a number of vids where he shows how to rip out assets from Fallout 3, NV, and 4 and convert them to 3d printable files. He converted a deathclaw, mini nuke and auto axe. Just search RU-vid for "makers muse fallout"
I love MM, but you'll notice in his vids, his models are solid hunks of plastic. While it is possible to stitch stls together, extracting assemblies and internal geometry is still a no go.
@@MrVolt Sure, you are correct about that, but in this case, DJ was just looking for the external shape of the computer, which he had to recreate by hand. Most people recreating items from video games are only looking for the outer shell to be correct.
@@savemegrilledcheesus494 Still needs to fit on the heated bed for printing ;) it's better if 3d prints are in parts sometimes because it's easier to replace a piece if it goes wrong.
@@element14presents Once its converted you can do anything you want to it that you can do to a normal stl file, including scaling and slicing it into parts. The mini nuke conversion hne does, takes the nuke and hollows it out into a planter. The conversation process only takes about 10 minutes, much less time then you spent remodelling the case from scratch. People take things like the power armor helmet and print it in sections so it can be life sized.
Nifty, put springs under your buttons to keep them up in the case so they don't tilt around for no reason, nice little case Idea. good use for an older Pi, prolly wouldnt use a harder to get 3B+ but for a 2 or 1B+ definitely. [as far as this exact usage anyway.]
An alternative display you could use could be a CRT tube from an old portable TV. Usually those screens are about 5 inches, with an aspect ratio of 4:3. Also, they are usually black and white, which obviously is monochrome. A green filter could change that.
Ugh right?, I had a 5" color CRT for the longest time and lost it in move a couple years ago. I'm still happy with my build since it's easy to find parts for, but I'll need to snag the right CRT if I tackle a full size build in the future.
0:46 YA DON'T SAY? p.s. Old computers didn't have mice in the first place, the first time they were implemented was when computers were powerful enough, and actually had a gui.
Russell Teapot That's Pycharm just code folding all of the import statements, so just a visual effect of the ide for readability, all of the import statments show again if I click the ellipsis
you don't go into any detail on how you wire the components, nor do you explain how you get your program to send the password to your windows machine. You briefly say it's the additional component, but never explain how to actually do it. This is more of a "look what I did" then a "here's how to do this."
Exactly, I'm sure there are plenty of Fallout fans who are getting this video recommended to them by RU-vid who want to make this, but have little to no experience in tinkering. I understand that this is a show for people who are more skilled and know almost immediately how to wire and program, but someone like myself who is an amateur would like to see where everything goes and how to get the program to load when you turn it on etc, etc. At least make a separate video that goes more in depth on the build so people can follow along to make their own.
Adam Gotta power cycle the terminal. I imagine that's what the player would actually do in "real life," but youre spared that in the game since it would just add more boring loading animations
Would be great if you have to type the word instead of searching for it, like in the game. That way you could use it as a security usb for your pc; you have to know the password or be locked out for a while. Safe from office workers who think they know you're password but don't.
Pretty cool build! But wouldn't it be a bit more in keeping with Fallout lore if you made a Pip-Boy instead? Afterall, the player doesn't carry around a terminal to hack into other terminals, right? :D
Thanks! You are right, but I did still want a mini terminal to play around with. I would like to make a Pip Boy and have suggested it, but I still need approval to do so.
No worries. maybe a "inspired" weapon or item would be less of a copyright issue instead. Use your tech skills to make a item someone in the fallout world might make. I have a few ideas for lolz, plus I'm bored! :D If anyone else wants to add to the list, please only add ideas that would work in Fallout, and would actually work.., Unless they are really ridiculous. Peace! :D 1-Realistic Pip Boy- Just tie a smart phone to your wrist. Put cool apps on it. As a bonus it should act as a working tricorder device. (.,within whats available of course.) 2-Pipe Pistol- with survival amenities like knife, flashlight, radio, compass, seatbelt cutter, etc etc built in. 3- i was going to suggest a power armor alternative here, but then I thought of that guy who turned his bulldozer into a tank and destroyed his town with it.., (Much better idea.) 4- The Shredder- Its a handheld melee knife weapon that is a cross between a big f-ing knife and a chainsaw. Imagine a electric steak knife that was given steroids. And you kept on giving it them. For a long long time. See #2 for more amenities. Don't forget bluetooth and wifi to interconnect all your items! :D
You could use raspberry Pi 3a+ which has less ports and more headers through which you don't need to sandwich the sound module in between the display and the LED.
What would also be cool is making usb holotapes that have a playable version of the mini-games and in the terminal the "load holotape" button is just an autorun for whatever is on an inserted usb holotape. Usb just because it would be easy to use with the pi.
@@NiHaoMike64 the system shown in Jurassic Park was an actual UNIX system and that file browser was exactly that, a file browser. It was a Silicon Graphics workstation :) google it.

there are/were no python files in the description OR at the element 14 link. and you dont show it all on screen so it's not exactly copyable. did I miss a caption or something with a github link or something?
James Wilson I sent the link the E14 originally. I just sent a note to the person in charge of the post to include the extra links for this build. Ill let you know when they're up!
those keys look shit, falling off or something, and why put them like that? why not have left on the left and right on the right and up down inbetween? makes no sense.
MrWeedWacky I wasnt happy with the keys either. I just used what I had on hand and should have ordered ones with proper caps/connectors, but I ran out of time to do so.
