OK, this is super impressive on many levels. Sure, it's got bags of style. Big, rusty bags, that is. Mechanically, there are surprises too. The Nissan/Datsun parts box has been raided in a big way.
I actually got to see this car mid-build. The owner was in the process of marrying the body of a 620 Datsun truck with the chassis of a D21. Couldn't have been easy but you could say that all the mechanicals of his 620 were upgraded in one fell swoop.

To answer his question on the wheels. They are 6 hole wheels in the same pattern as a Chevrolet ½ ton truck up until at least the 80s or 90s and maybe later. I had a Mazda truck that used 6 holers too and they were the same as the Chev ½ ton. Love the patina on that little Datsun, the air clear through the hood is very well done but I'm not a fan of that look.

So the engine is from an old Z Car? God I love Nissan cars... And Toyotas... And Hondas... And Mazdas... I LOVE THEM ALL! Mostly Nissan though. All of my non-Nissan cars will end up with a Nismo sticker on them at some point.

hey man, I don't know whether your earlier videos show any 1991 - 1999 Mitsubishi Gto twin turbo but have you come across any whilst in japan? if not any possibility of making a video? I hear they are quite rare in other parts of the world also and one day could be a collectors item. I was wondering is there any word on that particular car on your side of the world considering it came out and disappeared after 1999. Please reply....

Yes. Find a replacement, then ditch that one. As for annoying: whatever the hell was going on in the back there. It was way too loud, and way too high pitched.

WOW I had a '73 Datsun 620 back in 1977 in my senior year of High School. It had 1.6 liter SOHC engine and 4 speed trans. It was my surf mobile. I sold it when my dad gave me his '71 VW van. Irritating? Rude people, unthankful people, people who text while driving, or in the theater during a movie. Talking in a theater during the movie too. I'm not a fan of humans in general, my least favorite species on Earth. 8-)

was that lady the owner of that pick up? if so... wow! great car without the almighty J-15 engine, the new motor is good though. question of the day: i'm sure this happen to you all the time here in Japan Daniel. you sit down in your car to chill out for some time at the parking lot, and just when you are about to leave, an idiot is trying to get in or out at the same time you want to move, even if not any car came in or out when you arrived... that pisses me off. really!

+WasabiCars I try to position my taxi so that it's pointing uphill when I need to turn around so that I can put it into neutral and use gravity to back up... If I use the reverse gear and shift back into drive it resets the seat belt beeper so that it beeps eight times slowly and fifty times fast before it shuts up... You see, taxi drivers are not required to wear seat belts except on the highways, and I find them uncomfortable and confining... I would buckle up behind my back except the Prius won't let me lock the doors if I need to leave the car unattended with the belt buckled... I hate Toyotas.

That is like the truck my father owned. His was a 1977 620 series pickup...and it was one of the few that had an automatic transmission from the factory. The transmission was made by Jatco. The truck lasted until 1986...the rust finally ate it up!

G'day Dan'l. Back in Japan, are we? Sweet looking Datsun pickup truck. I like the patina. Whether you quit your day job or not, depends on a number of things. How much money your current job makes you. If you see something that makes you more money, that you enjoy doing more than your current job, then yes, I'd quit my current job and look for something else.

Looks like they lowered the body, so I guess the air cleaner was to tall. Thus they made a hole for it to stick through.

that's a newer Nissan truck engine in that 620. possibly the zz24 or a ka24. u should find out if the owner has social media and link them with the videos.

+MetalMonkeySC It's actually a 620 body dropped straight on a D21 base. I can't really say I know the guy but a mutual friend took me by the house mid-build. I actually didn't realise it was the same car at the time of shooting the video. As for getting in touch with them, another mutual friend had already alerted the lady who I asked to pop the hood. It's all good. :)

Matey, I'm not a walking wikipedia. Do you think cars come with data sheets I can read from as I walk about? What do you want for nothing? Seriously. I dont get it. Where is the "two trucks in one"? And what's with the "it's not really a Datsun 620" popup? Also I assume that's not the stock engine? On US 620s the intake is on the left side. As for "why" the intake, it seems obvious to me: it didn't fit under the stock hood, and this was the easiest way to make it fit. And it looks badass, and you can claim it helps make power by drawing in cool outside air. People believed it (and still believe it) when it comes to "cowl induction hoods", in spite of a lack of any real evidence.

nicely made! even the bed hatch has been replaced by a Datsun hatch. also the dashboard has an Holley Equipped sticker so that's probably why the airbox sticks out of the bonnet, right? qotd: what is annoying? if I do this? (mimicking Agnes from despicable me now)

Very cool truck! My mom had a 1978 620 with the l20 engine. I rarely see these things any more unless they are beaten work trucks. Good find, hope you see some more of these.
