I love that we still use dogs for what they’re supposed to be used for. Too many people have dogs just as pets and that’s fine but they forget all dogs were bred to work in some way. Terriers are amazing wee doggos! Solid work boys.
That is no longer true. There are now many dog breeds that were never intended to be anything but pets. Virtually all of them have significant health issues, though.
@@freedapeeple4049 - human bred monstrosities with appallingly short legs so they can barely walk properly or run, and others with such short snouts that sometimes require an operation to alleviate breathing difficulties. Sick people breeding for stupid qualities, they should be put down!
So enjoyable to see terriers doing what they do best! Once my westie caught a mouse that had got into my house, he was faster than the three cats that were in at the time, one quick shack and it was dead, he brought it to me as pleased as punch with himself!
First Terrier I ever had was a Cairn Terrier that came from a working estate where they had been breed for generations only to kill vermin, not bred for show , colour size appearance didn’t matter. It was the most loyal family friendly dog you’d ever see but an absolute killer with vermin.
I love watching working dogs do their thing! The dogs are so proud and happy when they catch a rat. The dog’s sense of smell and instincts are amazing!
In case anyone is wondering, yes bait traps kill more rats but doing this forces the whole population to flee to a safer place. Rats never understand danger with traps but a pack of terries sends them running.
I've got a rat terrier named Roscoe. One of the best dogs I've ever had. Every morning he looks in the mirror, adjusts his tie and asks himself, "how many grizzly bears to I want to take out today?". Little dog, big attitude. Terrier - from the Latin terra firma, or "the ground" because they're known for going down into rat, fox, rabbit, badger, etc. holes. Oh, an he hates squirrels. Good boy.
@@libbyturner8215 Yes my friend had one she was a lovely girl very friendly. And a bonus they don’t shed there hair like Jack Russells that we had and I’m still missing them terribly.
Know how you feel I would have my two back in a Hart beat. Especially my old boy buster he never had a bad bone in his body. Cried my eyes out when we had to have him put to sleep. And Lucy was the sweetest little girl. Miss them terribly.
Glad to see you guys and puppies😊💕my son has a dog like your white one... says he always brings them critter gifts👍I bet the dogs sleep good at night... and you guys too... running all over the place👍😁Good job, everybody 👍😁❤️
There out to be a tv show devoted to city ratting, especially. This is good but in the city people will bring a whole new dimension, kind of like the show COPS. Could you imagine a show about dogs ratting with the music from that show? It would be perfection. Successful ratting with dogs requires owners that know how to give dogs the cues. Good dog owner!
Those dogs were custom bred for rat warfare. Speed, reflexes and they go nose-first into the dirt and don't even sneeze. Rats don't have a chance against these dogs.
@@TRPGpilot - don't see the comment you refer to, but you've obviously grown up to be an insulting, intolerant person - was this what your parents taught you ?
@@thetessellater9163 You didn't see the comment I referred to yet felt the need to butt in with your 2 cents worth of opinion. There was a reason he removed it. Did your parents not teach you discernment?

Bet my scottie would like to play with them dirty rats! He's a big softy in home but I'm sure the rats would shake by the sight of him, its part of his DNA
Great point. I read an article a year or so ago that residents in NY City are using dogs to take out rats in, what appeared to be, rat hunting parties.
@@tomc.3987 You've just elected one big demo- rat.....not sure a wee terrior will take him down! The great American people don't know what they've done!
I've never seen such happy dogs! I wish there was somewhere I could take my Borders to have such a good time. Thanks for your videos; they're a lot of fun!
Great video. I have a question about the terriers. Is their behaviour purely instinct or did you give them a bit of additional training? I'm about to buy a house in rural France and want a good terrier to keep the rats down as well as a larger dog.
I just rescued a border terrier so have been learning more about their heritage! What is the recovery time for the dogs are they passed out for days afterwards or ready to go the next day? Just so curious my lazy dog is exhausted after one long walk around the block 😂😅
As long as the dust and bacilli can't get to me through the Internet, very interesting. These disinfectors have long become disease carriers themselves!
I wish I knew someone who has a rat problem. My dog would have a blast doing that. My dog is a JRT/BEAGLE and he loves to hunt. He's got a couple rabbits,a few mice,a bird. I don't encourage him to kill things. It's just his nature to want to catch small animals and he has a high prey drive. One time he sniffed out a large garter snake. Evidently he never seen a snake before,LOL. He hopped back and looked at me as if he was thinking where the hell are his legs. He left the snake alone.
Low growing, dense plantings bushes grown in masses are great hiding places for rats. If you know someone who is removing them they will surely have rats for your dogs to chase. People who store large amounts of hay or other livestock feed will always have a problem. Places where people dine outside are other great places. Open your eyes, the places where rats hide are everywhere. Ever watch shows on urban ratting? Go to town, even small towns there are likely to be rodent issues. I would suggest your dogs wear protective footwear and leashes while doing it in the city because of traffic issues, other dogs, people, food that might be bad for them, rat poison, etc. Learn to detect wild rats by smell and that will help you. Ask those who live in town, you'd be surprised. Additionally, always carry a bag for the dead rats so that you can tie off the bag and the fleas stay with the rat.
I had squirrels in my yard then on my roof then in through the soffit.Fixed the soffit and got an Airedale.....He’s 6 months old and has been on a mission.
Fancy day for the dogs ... you clearly see how motivated they are; I remember the Cairn Terrier my parents had ... as a pet ... but when he noticed a rabbit or a rat ... ears high and tail high and tried to enter the holes till his whole head was muddy brown LOL
Hello Mr. Johnson I rescued a pregnant female terrier mix back in February 2020 ( she had a family but they really didn't care for her I always saw her out and about walking around in my neighborhood ) she had 11 puppies ( a week later ) I adopted them all out and I kept her. Her name is Sheila. Over the past months getting to know her, I notice how she dives into tall grass or thick grassy areas nose first like she smells a rat or mole or some type of wild ground animal - and she is full of energy and loves to run around and she is very quick. When I see her do this immediately I think " hmm she would be a great ratter" Question: Are your dogs vaccinated with any particular vaccination or given any type of shots to prevent diseases from being passed from the rats to your dogs? I live in Miami, Florida ( I wonder if I should just ask my local veterinarian this same question ) but since I am watching and enjoying your working terriers ratting I thought I would ask you. Thank you
We have a home in agricultural area - and we have a rat problem. They are in the car engines now and causing damage. Not in the uk. We have a large garden and two gsd’s with high quality of life. Need help getting working terriers to hunt rats. Do you have any contact info? And do you by any chance sell dogs?
Remember my Grandads Jack Russell, he use to put in the chicken shed, never touched them but would kill rats or anything what tried getting in. Even killed next-door neighbours ferret which he said wasn't his.
Depends on the dog. I had great ratting lhasas when I was a kid, but we had a rat last year and all my lhasas stood there looking at me like "well, you get it!" Lol!
I have to give you credit my man you have an awesome place and awesome team. Dogs are doing exactly what they were bed for. Unfortunately, the average American (USA) will always complain and start with the "cruelty" to the "RATS" banners. Regardless, keep up the good work keeping your yard clean and rodent free of any diseases. Lastly, a old Greek adage states, "(Your) cough and money are impossible to hide" No one has a mule to drive but has no clue how to start it up. Keep them videos coming.
