The amount of people that don't know how common it is for mice and rats to be all over restaurants.... if you only knew the extent of it lol. This poor rat just happened to find a weak spot in the roof but there's probably 50 more rats nearby that you don't see.

@Kira the rat fell from the ceiling though. Rodents love hiding and climbing around inside walls. The fact that it fell from the ceiling means there's a weak area in the ceiling, totally the fault of the restaurant.

There was a converted barn in Texas called The Sportatorium. It was primarily know for holding pro wrestling from the 50s to the 90s. It had its own kitchen used to make food to sell to fans. This includes fried food like fries and chicken. No one remembers when the deep fat fryer was drained and cleaned. When it was drained to be cleaned, they found the remains of rats that had fallen in. Oddly enough, french fries and fried chicken were some of the most popular items on the menu!

We had rats in the walls of our previous house. Its a farm so it's to be expected. My cats also caught one on Christmas a few years ago. A massive one, I put it in the bin outside and our neighbour who likes to put her trash in our bin lifted the lid, saw the rat and screamed 🤣 ..she got her own bin after that. I dislike insects more, I do like mantis' though. They're fun to watch.

I feel the same way about squirrels. I used to think they were cute, but I moved to a home that is plagued by squirrels trying to take up residency. Seriously, I've had squirrels in my attic and they've crawled inside in my walls. I paid a lot of money to remove them (humanely) and also had several repairs done in areas they chewed.

This reminds me of the book “The Tale of Despereaux” where a rat falls from the chandelier into the queen’s soup. It startled her so much that it literally gave her a heart attack and she died.

I worked as a waitress and the health inspector told me the issue with rats is that male rats spray urine to Mark their territory. Sometimes there urine contains a bacteria that can make you sick and in some cases can kill children

You have to be responsible for your restaurants cleanliness and rats in the roof is not up to code in any establishment. I’m not saying a person has to but I do think that a free meal is not sufficient. Who would want to eat again at a place where a rat fell on their table. Rats do carry diseases and the exposure to that is harmful.

They are everywhere. We just notice them when they drop out of a ceiling onto our menus, or face simlar misadventure. Glad the rat was only stunned. I was going to say if it fell IN THAT CONDITION there was a person involved.

When I was in the Navy, we used to have contest to see who could put together a whole cockroach out of the breakfast cereal. The would fall from the overhead into the steam kettle during preparation, You get used to it after a while.

Honestly this is unfortunately a common thing meaning construction really does get rodents going nuts and running off to places where they smell food and find warmth. It DOESN'T mean that the restaurant was in any way disgusting or unclean, they just happened to have the unfortunate situation come upon them.
