This is one of the most graphically intense games I have to ever seen, it's beautiful. Most PS5 games can be said the same, but it's the bright, vibrant colours and textures that puts it on top.
The other reason it feels like a movie is due to the essential lack of loading. Nothing I have ever played went from cut scene to playing like this game did.
This game was the sole reason I bought a ps5 in the first , and it was most definitely worth the hype , can't wait to see what insomniac has next for the franchise .
My favorite character in the game is Invader Zim. It was amazing seeing him have a redemption arc that gripping while still retaining his destructive self. Owning a arena is such a perfect step for him!
Ratchet & Clank Always been the reason why i stay with Playstation Tools Of Destruction was the reason why i got a ps3 back in 2007 Size Matters was the reason why i got a psp back in 2006 And now Rift Apart was the reason why i got a ps5 this year
To speed things up, Cold Snap everything you attack. Even when the Cold Snap is fully upgraded, the extra damage it causes boosts the XP gain of whichever weapon you use. I went from taking 10-20 minutes per level to under 5.
This was actually one of the easiest platinum to get. I'd recommend everyone who play this to platinum, I just wish that there were more trophies tied to challenge mode, it is a also sad that challenge mode is the least repayable (As you already unlock all weapon forms)
@@florianp1283 yep. Just played through RaC PS4 and it was a breeze. Looks like this sequel will also be very easy. Of course if you want to hate yourself, there is always Halo 2 Legendary difficulty.
@@Propane_Acccessories I have the older monster hunters like monster hunter freedom. They are hard too. For some games you need to be kinda a masochist, but if you beat them, you feel like a God.
Yeah I wish they had difficult challenges for some trophies, but I guess it’s to prevent gatekeeping the platinum trophy for more casual players. The only trophy that’s not outright babysteps to get is the trophy for collecting all CraiggerBears
@@Woupsme Didn't mind that aspect of it, I just enjoyed her as a character. She was deeper than just female ratchet and I personally dug her bladerunner esque backstory and world.
@@Woupsme True but many games that had unnecessary extra characters that played differently that weren't well liked. As much as people love the Spider Man PS4 game, the Mary Jane and Miles Morales sections weren't liked.
the best game in the franchise since into the nexus yes maybe top 5 but not my number 1 favorite game in the franchise (3 uya, tod, acit, nexus still are my favorite)
People complain about the game’s length, but I think it’s perfect. Most Ratchet & Clank games are meant to be played twice in challenge mode. Such a fun platinum for me, never once became tedious.
@@fobbyP I used to be in the same boat, but with the recent state of multiplayer games I’ve been moving to single player games. Multiplayer games are just casinos now.
i hope we gonna have an good anniversary collection with all the ps2, future & ps3 era unlike the botch hd collection & deadlocked hd on ps3. im just glad finally people acknowledge ratchet & clank as the mario of playstation and not crash bandicoot.
I completed it, and in my second playthrough, since I wasn't looking for golden bolts, spybots, or raratanium for the most part since I knew I needed to wait until I re-collected the map-o-matic to save myself a headache, I blasted through the game's "challenge mode" in one sitting.
Miles Morales and Returnal definitely did a few nice things to let people enjoy the PS5, but Rift Apart definitely is the first game that did a fantastic job in showcasing the power of next gen. Definitely enjoyed my time with it when it came out and definitely deserves to be completed.
@@beyond-journeys-end Yeah, but they should at least give a proper announcement or at the very least make it a home video release with some theaters premering it via fathom event weeks before release. Not just peter out and hope nobody will notice. If you're gonna cancel something, you should rip that anxiety off like a bandaid and just out right say it instead of hiding under the couch like a scared cat.
@@deathsceane Actually Sly Cooper was brought in house to PlayStation Productions after the whole Ratchet & Clank Rainmaker Productions movie debacle, we have ten projects in the works from television shows to film productions with Uncharted, The Last Of Us, Ghost Of Tsushima, Twisted Metal officially confirmed
@@bamban_garcia5562 In other words franchises that'll make it easier for writers to throw in a few curse words and sex. At least that's how I interpret it given the selection of titles, and that's something I'm usually not interested in. A shame really, I was still gonna give Sly a go.
@@deathsceane Actually Uncharted seems to be around the pg13 rating, The Last Of Us HBO format, Ghost Of Tsushima most likely R, as for Twisted Metal its a stupid action adventure delivery film no idea how the writers behind Deadpool thought that was a good idea for a vehicular combat!
The only thing I didn’t like about the story was the “liar revealed” cliche. They did the same thing with Captain Quark in the previous games. It’s just lazy storytelling, you know exactly what’s going to happen. Edit: Spoilers in replies
@@ShenDoodles I didn’t mean she was a liar, it’s just what the cliche is called. I suppose you could say lying by omission. Basically the cliche is when in storytelling when a secret is revealed and the two characters have a falling out and the “liar” comes back at the end to redeem themselves and save the day. It’s been done in a ton of things and in previous Ratchet games before. I just think it could have been done better.
Rift apart is the biggest reason I want a PS5 so badly! Even more so hearing that the bouncer (one of my all time favorite weapons in the franchise) is back!
I tried to avoid Videos about this game, until i played it. But now I want to play it even more. Ratchet and clank is one of the best Playstation excusives with Knack. Nice Video. Thx
I don’t think there’s much of any extras, more modes or more unlocks. I think they shipped as much as they were able to develop in time. I don’t think they have been sitting on a finished game for a while. So much polish, the devs were basically working right up to launch date pretty much. You can tell this by the ray tracing improvements from the first patch compared to without. I wonder if they are going to add DLC though? That would be coo!
I just got my PS5 a few days ago and so far, from the setup experience, new UI and the Dual Sense, to playing Astro's Playroom and now Rift Apart (my first ever Ratched game and just TONS of fun), it is much more of a "Next-Gen" experience than the Series X, which was pretty much like: "Umm, yeah, it's another Xbox, everything is still pretty much the same, only there are no loading times now. Have fun" I only wish the PS5 was smaller, quieter (Microsoft really nailed that part, the Series X is pretty much inaudible) and less ugly lol. Basically, the slim version can't arrive fast enough. Sorry, I know this is mostly unrelated to the game, I just wanted to express my thoughts somewhere 😅
@@charKT-7461 Not always the case, as Sony uses different models of fans (and my library is 99% digital, so the disc drive noise doesn't concern me much). The first PS5 I had was muuuuch louder than the one I have now. But the Series X is still quiter.
Challenge mode is alot more of a challenge, without turning the cheats on! The game is outstanding it really is. Got the Platinum, and happy to play it over again.
I just finally bought this game, I was resisting it for a while bc I’m not super into platformers and I thought this was that. This game is theeeee best loooking game on PS5 by FAR. It looks better than Horizon, Ghost of Tsushima, Elden Ring, Spider-Man, etc etc etc.. it is nothing short of amazing how crisp and polished this game looks in performance RT mode on my 4K tv. And the game is so fun and has such a well written story. I’m obsessed!
Phantom dash is the best addition to this game, much better than the long jump with the thruster/helipack. Phantom dash is faster, can be used in midair and has invincibility frames. The helmet disappearing during cutscenes is also appreciated. I do wish the hoverboots had more use like in Crack in Time. They feel awesome to boost around but maybe adding bounce pads and the bolt crank direction changers would’ve helped.
@@puddle8330 Is you're not the craziest Ratchet and Clank fan, it's not worth it imo. It's fun and all, but that's it. Slightly better than mediocre imo.
2 things. 1) I also did a playthrough of the past games leading up to this one's relief and it was a fun journey leading into this one. Definitely worth it. They really need to make the PS2 ones (or the HD ones on PS3) available on something other than PS3, they aren't even on PSNow like the Future games are! 2) Zurkon Jr. being full Zim is always satisfying and even when you're replaying challenges it never gets old because he's just having so much fun.
I have a weird relationship with this game. On one hand, I recognize how well it is made in pretty much every regard. But on the other hand... Astro's playroom actually left more impression on me than R&C. And I chose that game to underline that it's not just the children cartoon aesthetic and story beats that I have a problem with. True, I don't really find this game's story stimulating enough for me, but I've played a lot of games with worse stories (Like Tomb Raider for example). I just can't put a finger onto why I'm fine playing Ratchet and Clank games once... and then never get excited for a sequel or want to play it again.
One thing I love about how Rift Apart handles the Infinite Ammo & Health cheats is the fact that there is literally no penalty for using them, I am totally fine with for the amount of effort required to unlock both cheats (There are 25 Gold Bolts, you have to collect 23 to unlock Infinite Health, and then one more for infinite Ammo) So you have to play through almost the whole game to unlock these cheats. I think Insomniac understands that players don't want to be penalized for using this amazing unlockable that they spent most of the game trying to unlock & just want to let them have fun with it I wish certain other devs would realize this as well for some of their game franchises *Coughcoughdevilmaycrycoughcough*
This game looks bonkers on my LG C1 OLED. It is simply unbelievable that they managed to keep the quality throughout the campaign. If insomniac can make games that looks so unbelievable and still play buttery smooth at 120 Hz, there is no reason why we other publishers won't follow the suit with similar graphics and such high frame rates. Future is exciting for Playstation
Just fyi, the "rupees" that you can reskin the bolts as are actually supposed to resemble the gems from the original Spyro trilogy that Insomniac developed
Its good to see that with this generation of consoles they seem to remember not every launch title have to be a realistic shooter or a overly story burdened game. It allows dope games like racket and clank to be front and center
I recently managed to get a ps5 on a website that had a restock, they took down the page like 5 minutes after since it was all out then. I pre-ordered Rift apart even though I did not have a PS5, but now I got one. Huge fan of the series, and played and own every game in the series. Can't wait.
@@randomplaceinruralamerica9618 Yes but it hadn't the hardware in mind. I think a modern souls game could use more open levels 😅 Ratchet and Clank is optimised for most of the new PS5 possiblities
A few episodes in, can I just say that I'm REALLY digging your new intro, Jirard and co.? It really makes me look back on just how far the show has come. :)
Watched this video, then played R&C 2016 and Rift Apart back to back. Have to say that Rift Apart is a much better game. 2016 wasnt bad, but it left alot on the table.
he completed 4 ratchet & clanks games (2 games from the ps2 era, the ps4 movie tie-in game and rift apart) i really want him to complete the rest of the insomniac ps2 era titles and the future & eras titles, he completed almost every main mario game on the show and most of the main sonic game he completed. i think jirard also close to complete all the sly cooper games (only need to complete the ps3 game) and most of the jak and daxter games (3, x & daxter only left) so why not complete the main playstation mascot more on the show?
I know there are alot of differences but with the new characters having new screen time and the main difference being movement differences I cant help but see the small comparison to halo 5 for these console exclusives, happy to see that people are seeing this one more though so that's awesome
A friend of mine got the platinum. I'm still on PS4. I'm a long time Ratchet fan dating back to the original trilogy on PS2. I can't wait to play this one, as I try to play them all. I got the plat for the original 3 on PS3, ITN and the PS4 reboot.
FINALLY bought a ps5 a few weeks ago along with this game, and I have to say, this game is GORGEOUS!!!!!!!!! Even at 1080p. Yes I know it's a given that if you want the best graphical quality, 4K is the way to go, but don't let people tell you that 4K is a requirement for this game, because that's rubbish. Even at 1080p, this game is STUNNING, even with ray-tracing.
Can't wait till you make episodes on Up Your Arsenal and A Crack In Time. This is coming from a veteran of the series I think you'll like them just as much as Going Commando and that's my favorite of the series! Deadlocked and Into The Nexus are guilty pleasures of mine also on the side!
I feel like at this point in the previous console cycle we had even less games that were exclusive to the PS4 than we do now to the PS5. By July 2014 we had Killzone Shadow Fall, Knack, Resogun, and inFAMOUS Second Son. We now have Demons Souls, Returnal, Astrobot, Destruction Allstars, and Ratchet on PS5. It seems like Deathloop is going to be the only other game exclusive to the PS5 for the remainder of the year. But 2014 ended with just DriveClub being added to the PS4. And then there's Ghostwire and Forspoken early in 2022. The Xbox One launched with more exclusives than the Series X, but I think that's where the feeling of these consoles getting off to a slow start is coming from. Playstation is doing more cross-gen games this time but they have more games in general. PS4 sold like 110 million units so they probably want to maximize the number of sales of these games so they're not stuck on new hardware that no one can find. Instead of getting The Last of Us in 2013 and The Last of Us Remastered in 2014 they're releasing both versions together.
This game is an absolute blast. It's the most graphically impressive game I have ever seen. The gameplay is super fun and fast. And all the characters are likeable, with a good story to go with it all. I'm actually happy with the games length. It could be a little longer, but I appreciate that it didn't try to soak up all of my time with too much meaningless filler like most other modern games do. It's simple, super fun, full of good characters and story, and looks absolutely beautiful. I'd honestly give this game a 10/10. Too many reviewers hold back on giving a game a full score, but for us to understand what a top tier game is we need games like this, true gems that are created so rarely, to be at the very top.
