The return to Kerwan certainly had a differently feel than the first visit. Landing in Metropolis in R&C1 was more like solving a mystery that had led you to an intriguing alien city bustling with activity. In R&C3 it was a return to a once-familiar place that now the center of a massive armed conflict. There's a strong sense of urgency in the Up Your Arsenal version, like everything is exploding around you and everyone is fighting, but you have to make it through to save the day. In the 2002 Ratchet & Clank, it was more of a feeling of curiosity, like you were almost unknown in this new strange place so far from home.
Man I can’t agree more. I love how much sense that makes! Like the way you describe the intensity of the return to metropolis and how the music feels like a familiar place and war breaking loose!
Exactly, I love how the music captures how different the atmosphere is in both games. The original OST is so mysterious, almost foreboding, but also bustling just like the city. Then in R&C 3 it's way more energetic to catch the giant ongoing battle that you walk in to the moment you enter the city. The sequel theme feels so familiar, but so different at the same time
I've always been a sucker for updated versions of old tracks. They really capture the feeling of "Everything's different but everything's the same". Well, at least for me, they do. Y'know, I really just like callbacks, remixes, and homages in general.
If only it wasn't just plain linear... that was my only gripe... but it did show Dr. Nefarious' submission video for a talent show. So that's pretty great.
Takes the calm, small scale fighting atmosphere of the first game into a full scale heavy war atmosphere of the third. It's not just Ratchet fighting a small army on his own this time, it's him fighting a new massive enemy regime with the rangers, and more casualties present.
Luffy Senpai Well, except on the main path to get Clank back. In fact, fighting with the Galactic Rangers is completely optional. I get what you mean, but just saying...
@@superlombax1561 When i say "You don't fight alone this time", i do mean the moments when you help out the rangers in the battle against the Tyhrranoids.
Yea all of the soundtracks in the newer games just sound like standard action music in a movie or rv show. I wish they kept making or remixing unique songs like this
Apparently they had some major issues with David Beaurgaud the composer, and not only will he not return to compose, but insomniac isnt allowed to use any of his music in newer Ratchet titles.
Not entirely, it's technically different since it sounds a lot more dramatic, but I do agree that Metropolis is probably the most unique song in R&C1 and one of my favs in R&C3.
This sounds like what would happen if Metropolis was introduced in Ratchet and Clank 3. Not just a remake, but a remix. It didn't feel like an upgrade, because it didn't need one. It just needed to fit in. That's how progression is done. Fitting since it uses a lot of espionage motifs. Basically, Bergeaud knows his stuff. He doesn't try something new. He understands what is needed and does it.
Yeah, what made Aleero City better than metropolis? Speaking of which in the trailer for the 2016 game Quark called the city in Kerwan Metropolis, not Aleero City
@@WorkInProgressX Same, I was pretty upset that they have changed the name of the city and they have changed the music too which has upset me the most :(
I love so much this, the original is a classic, but this reximed version has all the ongoing vibe of the story at that point, you can feel the adrenaline of Metropolis on danger.
@@MrSondre198 they will know about it when they will play r&c rift apart on their new ps5s thinking its the only game in the series when they will soon find out its true roots
All-Stars!! :D And this game brought back SO much of the first game. Veldin, Aridia, Rilgar, Kerwan.. I feel like I'm missing something... (apart from Ratchet's Dogfight, Freeing Your Ship, and Destroying the Cannons :D)
Playing A Rift Apart at the moment. Despite being a good game at its core. I have a few nitpicks with it. One of them is the Soundtrack being rather dull. I miss the PS2 era OST.
Indeed. Sometimes alone, sometimes with my younger sibling. It was fun just to explore. Didn't even have internet back then but I didn't need to, I had fun nonetheless.
idk i went back to it and i realised it definitely has problems. compared to the first two games the game is much more streamlined and enemy variety is much more limited. a lot of tasks and worlds are hoarde mode, collect sewer crystals or arena battles and while its content it starts to feel like padding or like artificial grind. it has the best gameplay but its just a smaller game and years later we learned that the game was development hell unlike the first 2.
@@thelrproject257 main problem was them having to include a full on functional multiplayer mode to the already large main game in the same timespan it took them to develop going commando. Okay they kept hiring more people but development of resistance fall of man had already started as well. The fact that uya released in the state that it was, even with all of the flaws, was a miracle in itself as they were severely lacking in time. You can tell this game lacks a lot of polish, especially in the animations and world building like the first 2 games had. Planets were more linear, not a lot of npc inhabitants to encounter, not that many new unique weapons, almost no funny video intros for all the different planets. It's still a really good game and again it's amazing that it turned out that good in the end but it definitely has some rough edges.
Techno/electronic music made in the early 2000s relies on a sample pack surprisingly often. You can hear a lot of samples that Bergeaud used for the R&C soundtracks in lots of other unexpected places (for example the Patapon 2 theme uses a drumloop that appears both in Metropolis and Umbris). If I could get my hands on this sample pack I would be the happiest composer in the world.
If you were to have Ratchet wear his old clothing from the first game while playing this level and Blackwater City, Rilgar levels, it can feel like you're playing the first game with BETTER CONTROLS.
I was never able to actually play this level, something was wrong with my disc and it would just crash as Ratchet landed his ship every time, I never got to progress past this point
OG Version is better but I still really like this. Also, I'm working on a thing to explain my characters in TAS (The storytime-Animator Show) because when I become an Animator youtube it will be a show that I'll make and I'm gonna use it for one of the Animator's theme.
One person couldn't find their way through metropolis so they left a dislike XD Edit: There are now 2 dislikes. That means another person also found it difficult to find their way around metropolis XD
I Literally Never Played The Original Trilogy And Only Played The PS4 Reboot....And Even I Was Able To Tell How Much Better The Original And It's Music Was Even This Remix?
Not a fan of the remake. It had a different tone and I absolutely cannot get enough of the 60's/70's guitar, but it didn't feel as wonderful and unique as the first time, especially since it was mostly just a few corridors and a combat section.
On a marathon of nostalgic songs from games I used to play this has a child, love this one so much. I’d downloaded a lot of old games like that lately and they still relevant to these days 🫶
