As impressive as Rift Apart was, I fear Ratchet and Clank will never return to what it once was. This game had everything, the atmsophere, the personality, the world-building, it was all there. So far ahead of its time.
Insomniacs new Composer like wtf, no wonder you cant emulate the original soundtracks on new games if you dont even attempt to respect the original work when given the opportunity to.
I feel like the newer games completely miss the style the old games had. The newer games seem to go for a more "futuristic cyberpunk" aesthetic, with a more cinematic approach, while the older games had a more "retro/steampunk, mechanical element" to them, and completely made fun of the corporate world the universe infatuated itself with. It's almost as if the newer games became what the older games made fun of.
I like to compare Ratchet to Kingdom Hearts. It started with a very certain energy, a specific mojo and theming that quickly changed into what the series's identity would TRULY be. Kingdom Hearts 2 and Tools of Destruction firmly cemented what these franchises truly were, leaving those earlier entries and their unique tones and themes as beautiful anomalies. Seeing as I quite like both Kingdom Hearts and Ratchet for what they've become and are defined as as franchises, I am NOT complaining- rather, I just appreciate KH1's charming Disney magic and RaC 1's cynical steampunk anti-overcapitalist aesthetic for the special unique experiences they breed, keeping these more outdated entries on the same level overall as the games that followed.
Music makes all the difference. The new games would have felt amazing with this music. Such a shame that the new composer doesnt have the skill that Dave had, or Copeland for that matter.
Ratchet: "Hey you're that robot guy, right?" Al: "No, I build robots. I, myself, am not a robot guy, per se. Ehehehehe." Ratchet: "Nerd." Clank: "I like him." And here we find Big Al. Such a dork but easily became one of my favorite characters in the series.
One thing that makes me appreciate this soundtrack even more is the fact that Ratchet had never seen any planet other than veldin before the game starts, so all the wonder and curiosity these tracks evoke in the player are probably the same feelings ratchet felt.
You are mostly correct, but Ratchet has indeed been to another planet before Veldin, he was an infant on Fastoon and then he got sent to Veldin by Kaiden.
I played R&C 1 before I played the second or third games, but I was so young that I didn't really remember it. I have very vivid memories of playing Going Commando and Up Your Arsenal, but I had essentially forgotten everything about the first game. Over a decade later, when I was in community college, I decided to finally reply the original game. Landing on Kerwan, watching that walkup animation, and hearing this theme play with Metropolis in front of me caused such an intense emotional reaction because I suddenly remembered everything.
This song uses the same fucking sample that I've been trying to look for for years it's in this game it's in Tetris the Grand Master it's in Street fighter alpha It was Chun-Li's theme and I cannot for the life of me figure out what the sample is and it's killing me
The first R&C is the best by a longshot. The sequels are fine enough, I've seen worse futures for franchises, but the original had originality, personality and very well tuned progression. You start with a wrench and slowly work your way up. You get the satisfaction of finding loot as if you were playing Diablo or Borderlands, but enjoy platforming the likes of Mario or Crash Bandicoot along the way: only better. In a way it reminds of me Half Life in that regard. Every new item is both fun and a necessary new tool. The completeness of this game is an underappreciated masterpiece.
I get that but I believe R&C3 was better in terms of progression or at least weapon progression as there were more than one proper ways of grinding bolts that didn’t take too long to get the next big gun (sewer crystals debatable tho) compared to the 1st, especially when you’d also spend quite a lot of bolts just on ammo
Company might be same but many developers who worked on PS2 games aren't around anymore neither is composer David Bergeaud. He stopped making music for the series after Quest for Booty.
I still hope we get the original 3 games in an HD collection also on the ps5 then cause Jak and Daxter also has their HD collection out from PS3 to PS4 so why not the same with ratchet and clank would be Fucking badass to see a HD collection for the ps5 bro
How do we start a movement to get the OST of the original 3 games onto Spotify? It looks like they used to be on there but were removed for some reason.
The plumber is personally my favorite, I like how in the second one he says "well I'm off, see you two in like a year or so", I just wish they'd kept his original look, they gave him a more grandpa look in the future games and on which I personally didn't like all that much
@@perrytheplatypus2001 I think his grandpa look is to imply that he's growing up with us. Especially since he's aware of the first game's remaking in R&C 2016.
I remember as a kid just having fun beating up the quark bot with different weapons and then I was shocked when it actually got destroyed with one of the weapons (i can't remember which one) and got a skill point!
SO. FREAKING. ICONIC. And Nostalgic. And funky. it perfectly captures the vibe of this fast paced city. Considering the demo also starts on this level I think, this is the first bit of RAC soundtrack I heard.
I had completely forgotten about this level. I played the first Ratchet and Clank when I was a little kid and I only remembered a little bit of it, mostly just the Veldin intro level and the Novalis level, and a little bit of Aridia. Somehow I'd totally lost memory of Kerwan. When I played this game again in my early 20's, hearing this theme and seeing Metropolis and remembering "Oh SHIT this level!" was such an experience.
First game I ever played, was 2 years old at the time, remember every single bit of this game even at such a young age, man, the memories, and to this day I own every single R&C Game there is
Funny you say thay. Someone was playing Britney spears at my work. And quite a lot of the songs elements were quite reminiscent to me of my time in this game. This song in particular. Music seems to follow periodical time locks. Some musicians in this era held a smilair sound
That sample is so sick haha. I recognize it from SFA3, Chun-Li's theme. I also believe it was used in TGM2+ or perhaps it was TGM3; either way, this track is sweet!
@@jacquelineliu2641 Wow, thanks! Just found it, it'll be fun recreating this. I had no idea there were sample discs. If you wanna share anything else, feel free to, I absolutely love music.
The older version has better and more unique music I'm replaying the 2016 version with headphone to hear the older games music but to get updated graphics and gameplay.
When someone says Ratchet and Clank; this is the theme that comes to mind; A Sy-fi electronic theme that’s benefiting a metropolitan city set on a planet in space
Did you play the demo when it came out? This was one of the levels you could play on it, the other being Blackwater City, so maybe that could be the reason
@@alicewiegold4425 no, I didn't play the demo. And what is even more curious is that it wasn't even my first ratchet and clank. I started with the second one.
Who else finds it a bit strange that in spite of Metropolis being designed to be a bustling futuristic city, each and EVERY building has extensive plant growth on it like it's abandoned?
Can we all agree that this is the Song that completely defines the Rachet and Clank series as a whole? I literally look forward to this song in newer games and tho they dont always hit the same...they put a smile on my face and take me way back to the early PS2 days of games...the BEST days of gaming which includes the gamecube and the first Halo
Damn bruh the emotion in this whole trilogy and ost. The dynamic between ratchet and clank not liking each other let alone getting along basically until the very end. Then the second and third build up that brotherhood like friendship into deadlocked then after the future series they slapped us with a shit show also known as Ratchet 2016
While I'm sure it will never have a killer sountrack like this anymore, I do hope to find something similar one day! Still remember when I got this game the first time, this ost here, this was the FIRST time in a game I was hooked immidiatly but the sound before the level
I used to sit in front of my tv and stare at the screen for hours playing this masterpiece. This song is buried into my subconscious, and I wouldn't have it any other way.
I searched "Banger OST" and this is what came up. Makes sense. Now please excuse me while i casually download this song via youtube mp3 straight into my pink ipod mini
