Arguably the best boss battle in the franchise. How it’s set up, what’s at stake, who you’re fighting against, the atmosphere, and it’s a lot of fun, but also you feel what’s at stake. Very emotional and atmospheric final boss battle, and it was beautifully constructed, and fun to play as well. To me, this is the most impactful boss fight in the entire franchise. Hell, it might be my all-time favourite boss fight.
In hindsight, part of what made this game so awesome was that Nefarious and Alistair represent the two Great Villain Archetypes: Alistair is the well-intentioned extremist, who has a motivation we can relate to and a tragic backstory that makes him sympathetic, but goes way too far, and that makes for a very effective antagonist; but Nefarious is also a very effective antagonist because he's just a moustache-twirling villain who chews on all the scenery and is just FUN to watch
This is a very emotional and chilling final boss. Alister has good intentions, but he doesn't realise how the way he's trying achieve is devastating and literally puts the universe at huge risk. Why he's doing it is very believable, he's a broken soul haunted by a traumatic mistake and just wants to set things right. The fact that he's literally the only other known lombax (if you ignore Angela) at the time and you have to fight him just makes it even more impactful. "Kill you in the present, save you in the past." is VERY chilling to hear man. I pretty much love everything about this fight, the way it's built up, the atmosphere, that the universe is very close to pretty much exploding, and the emotions that come with it. Definitely on my list of favourite final boss battles in gaming.
Azimuth understood he was risking everyone else for his goal. Even says as much during the boss fight itself, "You're darn right I am! And if you want to stop, you're going to have to kill me!" Azimuth was a tragic character, but we also have to acknowledge that he was equally selfish as he was good-intentioned. He was making this decision for everyone else in the universe, whether they were onboard with it or not. His solution boils down to erasing his mistake than learning from it and moving forward. Would it have saved many Lombaxes, had his plan worked? Most likely, but the principle of what he set out to do is tarnished by the fact he considers everyone in the present, including the only other Lombax in the galaxy, expendable. That's what needs to be acknowledged here. Azimuth did want to save the lives of his friend and many Lombaxes who died to Tachyon, but it was also because he couldn't live with the guilt of his mistake. It was as much to relieve his conscience as it was undoing the damage Tachyon wrought. Azimuth takes the question of, how far would you go to undo a mistake, and pushes it to its greatest extreme. He was so caught up in the past, he couldn't see ahead of him until he witnessed the clock falling apart around him.
@@rhenvao2844 The only reason he even realized his mistake is because he saw for himself that the Great Clock isn't a time travel device. While it can alter things with time, it's fundamentally a machine that keeps it stable. Sometimes, people like Azimuth need to see it for themselves, then on top of it, loses his life to correct his mistake. That takes a lot of conviction if you ask me. Imagine if you could convince Thanos to do something like this AFTER he snapped his fingers to wipe half of all Fauna and Intelligent Life, what would've happened?
phillip walling He’s definitely one of the sympathetic extremists. A character who is flawed, and made mistakes, but is someone you can’t help but feel sorry for, and understand. Alister has spent a lot of years in solitude, isolated, presumably by his own choice instead of the lombaxes’. But the guilt was too overwhelming for him, to the point that it’s made him rather unstable, and stubborn. The best antagonists are the ones who are the hero in their own way, and have a reason why they believe so. That’s why I think Alister was perfect as a final boss.
Jak and Ratchet I wouldn’t say Alister is an Antagonist. He may be the final boss, but he’s trying to do the right thing. I feel so sorry for him and I wish that there could’ve been more of Alister. I think they should’ve let him live and see what would happen
Luke Hoffman An antagonist is somebody who actively opposes the hero/protagonist. Somebody on the good side who actively opposes our hero and main characters is still an antagonist. Antagonist and villain/bad guy don’t necessarily mean the same thing.
Todd Barnes yes. Azimuth was merely trying to reverse time in a misguided attempt to resurrect the Lombaxes, therefore he is not evil, but just misguided. The only reason ratchet refused to help was out of fear of losing clank. lord Vorselon however, wanted to use the great clock for his own ends, committing actions much worse than what azimuth tried to do.
*would’ve been cooler if there were jumbo trons of Tachyon giving previous speeches or hearing his speeches randomly since he’s basically the reason Alister going crazy as he gave Alister a false sense of security and hope!*
Mission: Stop General Azimuth at all costs! General Azimuth refuses to believe his plan to save the lombaxes will end in catastrophe. Prevent him from misusing the Great Clock, and destroying the universe!
