There's no ammo issue in this game. I never once came close to being out of ammo. Never had to buy ammo from the vendor. Ammo crates are everywhere. Bolt crates to buy more weapons are everywhere. There's loads of upgrade materials to increase the ammo. This to me seems more of an issue of 2 guys trying to rush through a game for review purposes.

Right before zurkon introduced a new gun or 2 for me to buy, I’d always either be able to afford 1 of 2, or just be 1000 bolts off. That’s a good thing though, and part of the design. As for ammo, the arena is the only time I’ve genuinely had an issue with it. Other than that, there’s too many ammo crates. A problem is some guns just flat out suck. The enforcer/executor is probably the worst one.

I'm not a fan of the limited out of 3 icecream ratings in general of the reviews, 5 or 10 to get more subtly scores in there....out of 3 is very limited IMO. But way happy to see bros on the reviews vs just Sam. Sam is like Voltron, better together. He has a multiplier effect to the whole thing. He so much funnier and better when he plays off of others. And I think the same Skillup to actually, but you gotta do what you do. Lova all 3 of ya the most when you banter.

They also clearly didn’t switch weapons during combat to combine different weapon combos - they both said they used “the best” weapon until they were out of ammo and worked their way down to “the worst” weapon. That’s not how it’s meant to be played. You’re supposed to frequently switch and combine weapon effects for the most efficiency in combat. Do it right and you’ll almost never run out of ammo.

@@ryhanon7 It's still a valid opinion. For anyone that does not want to or cannot play that way (or didn't know it existed, which may be an even bigger game flaw) it may lead to ammo problems which is a good thing to know. It is also a good thing to know it can be upgraded (which they barely covered imo). That's why you should never blindly believe one reviewer and should always get a few opinions in.

@@hkr667 yeah, don’t get me wrong - I’m not trying to imply they’re bad reviewers or anything. I have seen them play and review games far more difficult and complex than Ratchet and Clank so I know they know what they’re doing. It’s just a bit perplexing to me that this particular thing was an issue for both of them. You’re right though it could very well be indicative of another problem with the game - a failure to communicate to the player how to combine weapon effects during combat, or perhaps it’s even just that both of them seemed to think the game is targeting a young audience and therefore is unlikely to have that level of complexity to the combat (an understandable, if incorrect, assumption for someone to make). I’m not sure what it was - I just found it an odd criticism for both of them to have.

Ratchet & Clank has some of the best gameplay ever, it has aged so well and is perfect, ever since Going Commando, it didn't need changes other than more open areas and a dash ability.

I actually like that ammo is limited in this game. A problem with other ratchet games is that I would only use like 4 of the total weapons in the game. In rift apart I found myself constantly switching weapons and I found that fun. Probably not for everyone but I liked it and this is the internet so my opinion is important lol.

They are wrong about the grenade weapon. When using the weapon there is a lock on if you press r2 halfway. I find it to be one of my favorites.

I had no problem with ammo in this game I played on the hardest difficulty they should add a harder mode because the game is too easy for right now especially when you get some of the stronger weapons like the negatron collider does way too much damage

Ammo isn't limited at all in this game. Rushing through the game for review and missing most of the ammo crates, bolts for more weapons and upgrade materials is their issue. I never had to buy ammo from a vendor nor came close to running out.

The 2016 version was too kiddy for me I couldn't finish it. The gameplay was okay but at about half way though I felt I had seen everything. Levels and story were a step back from older games somehow.

You guys need to play the original trilogy if you want to see the real Ratchet and Clank. Starting with the future trilogy they started targeting these games strictly for kids and got rid of all the clever writing and jokes from the original games.

I still miss the smartmouthed wisecracking Ratchet from the original trilogy, and the insane pins and needles platforming. Everything with that series had been whitewashed, and only kept the spectacle of the gunfights.

It’s been a slow progression to this point. I think it follows crack in times tone nicely, while adding in a slight blend of more family friendly fun that the 2016 game aimed for. But it still has great moments of adult humor, like when clank says “holy $@!#” (which was hilarious), and the subtle anti consumerism humor you can hear from the robots in nefarious city if you listen to the npc dialogue. That humor was a staple in the original 4 games. I think it’s a nice balance of family friendly and still true to the series’ original humor, and while I definitely agree that I love ratchets original edge and snark and would’ve loved to have seen it in this game, I still really like his character and the story where it’s at currently.

@@vincevirtua Once I punched a guy in Uncharted 4 and fell through the floor, then to a death barrier after 20 seconds. That's the only glitch I remember ever happening, hopefully Ratchet is similarly polished.

Rift Apart broke for me within the first 45 min of play. I got stuck inside the first main rift I went into while fighting the first boss. I kept tumbling and tumbling until all the shattered scenery disappeared. It was obvious something was supposed to have happened. I tried closing the game but got stuck on the "app closing" screen. In the end had to restart PS5. The save game file was corrupt but it repaired okay. Loaded back into the boss fight for him to become non responsive and his health didn't drop as I shot him. Had to reload the checkpoint for it to play properly again. Not really had any issues since then apart from a couple of annoying invisible walls stopping me from making some long jump shortcuts once I got the hover boots.

Haven't had a problem with ammo so far and I'm playing on the hard difficulty just because I enjoy the combat so much. Definitely need to be upgrading your weapons

My head is tilting, because I remember grinding and upgrading all the things to the last degree until weapons were broken. Even if there are ammo issues if every shot does more damage, covers more area it would not matter. When I get a PS5 I am sure my sentiment will be with you.

@@joshuasterling2144 this exactly! I also think maybe they didn't find enough upgrade shards throughout the level. By the time I got to the point where the game let's you upgrade, I had close to 20 shards or more. Which was more than enough to upgrade the 4 weapons I had at the time.

I agree with you guys. The graphics are great and it's a good way to show off what the console can do but it's still a Ratchet and Clank game and I don't wanna pay £70 for it. I'll probably pick it up eventually. Hopefully on PS+

Give me your PS5 at market value and I will spend 70 dollars, not to sound overly dramatic but the whole point of having the latest Sony hardware is to play their exclusives and not do what Xbox guys do, which is to expect almost everything for free while giving their rights to ownership away. I mean genuinely curious if your going to wait 18 months or more for every Sony exclusive. 60 dollars in 1999 was $96.95 dollars in today's money, so I don't know why you think its a bad deal. Developers have gotten progressively less money for their work for clean finished games than ever before, depending on large sales and scalability of their product. Also choosing the PS5 platform exclusively limits sales to that platform, full price is expected since you are cutting 120 million customers out of the loop. This means that Insomniac can expect only 3-4 million sales of their game at the top end at launch.

I played through on hard and never had an issue with ammo? Idkn what you where doing but I swapped weapons all the time and I always had enough. I guess if you only stick to 2or3 weapons then you’d have an issue but that’s on you

I'm honestly surprised to he hearing so much love for Gladiator/Deadlock as of late. I remember back in the day it was treated as the red headed step child of the series. While, I wouldn't say it was as good as 2 or 3, it was still a great ratchet game. And it had some of the funnest coop I've ever played in gaming. Broken(as in easy)? Absolutely. But Absolutely a blast as well.

Played it a lot yesterday, fucking love it. Upgrading ammo capacity is a big thing. I'm a lightning weap whore so not being able to just spam that endlessly is a good thing because it would have been op with the stun. Not only for gameplay but also because the stun visual and chain stun audio is absolutely hilarious.

Im playing on the hardest, and the only “issue” I ran into was having to switch between weapons to stay in the fight. Ammo was not an issue unless you try and use 1 or 2 out of the 10 or so weapons constantly.

I love the discussion and i would love too see yall talk about what things youd want changed in future games to make it apeal to adults more. I started playin the games when i was 6 and essentialy the game has been the same since going commando. I wanted too see more significant additions to combat besides jus a dash. The rpg system feels outdated and i desperatly want them to improve on that aspect of the game. The enemy variety felt lacking like you either had thug goons pirates or nefarious bots and like a dozen enforcer fights made some of the boss fights less interesting. If the enemies had each had 1 or 2 more types each annd they were thrown in i think the combat could be similar to doom. Each enemy is a puzzle peice to throw at the player and with a few more peices and other combat changes i could really love the game. Cory balrog did a great talk on gow how gamers have grown with their characters and its interesting to see how they have changed over the years. Gow changed its formula and it is imo the perfect game, its got engaging combat, exploration ,story, progression the works. I wish ratchet woulda evolved its formula, i want a skill tree or weapon customization, armor abilities a more open world, like the parts of r n c that are good are great but it still essentialy feels like the same game from almost 20 years ago. I want too see the gameplay evolve not jus the graphics.

I read the thumbnail and I thought it was referring to Ralph and Sam. It still hurts sometimes when I think about it. Like when I think about my dad and then remember he passed away a couple months ago. A real punch in the gut. But much less intense when it’s about Lamón Gamón vs my dad. Largely because I have a Thiccboi to fill in for Ralph but I don’t have a Thiccboi to fill in for my pops. 😢

Sam stepped up his game since Ralph quit. While their interaction was nice for the viewers, it wasn't good for them. Ralph was filling the big brother shoes by countering most of what Sam said with his video game expertise, and Sam wasn't putting in the work because he relied too much on him because of this. Now Sam is free to improve and Ralph can be more chill.

The ammo criticism baffles me. You say you started with the best weapon and progressively moved down to worse and worse weapons as you ran out of ammo - did you seriously not realize you’re supposed to be constantly switching weapons because many of them combine in interesting and effective ways? I’m not about to say I never ran out of ammo for some weapons - but it was very rare that it happened because you’re *supposed* to frequently change your weapons in combat and use them together. If you’re actually playing as you described it - using “the best” weapon until it’s out of ammo and working your way down to “the worst” weapon - then you’re playing it wrong. Very wrong.

Nearly finished with it, completely blows 2016 remake out of the water. This game is absolutely insane. So many cool guns and upgrades, story is great. Lots of nice little side content areas, incredible graphics. It really surprised me. I thought I’d like the game a lot but it’s one of my favs for sure now

Eh $10 than what it’d normally be isnt THAT bad especially considering how consistent insomniac has been. It could also be needed compensation for the cheaper Miles Morales spinoff they released a some months back. Making games is hard work. Its particularly harder to create a game for a new console which studios like ND (arguably best graphics and performance in the industry thus far) can attest to. Im making my way through the campaign right now and can confidently say it’s the best example of next gen for either platform thus far

Yes, the writing and humor isn't as adult oriented as the original trilogy, but I absolutely loved Rift Apart. I hope this opens new avenues for a Rivet spinoff with her own adventures while Ratchet does his own thing.

I think it very much depends on the gameplay loops. If the creators can make loops that are just so much effin fun then I don't really mind a long run time. But definitely prefer a solid curated shorter experience to a bloated repetitive extended one

I get what they're trying to say about the story but what they're kinda overlooking is this game isn't a sequel to the remake, it's like the tenth installment of the series canonically. It references the og trilogy, the future trilogy, a little bit of Nexus, and tries to bring new things into the mix. Tldr: As a long running fan of the series I didn't have a problem following the story. But people just coming in from the reboot might.

While you’re shooting and press X twice while pushing the stick sideways you will flip to the left or right, acting as a dodge. Helps a LOT in the first stage on harder difficulties.

'I wish they brought the sheepinator back..' Noooo! Ratchet and clank used to be about the cool and weird weapons. Whats lacking in the new games has been the weapon-set, it got a bit stale. Back in the PS2 days, each game aimed to have a totally new weaponset - Going commando moved them to a whole new galaxy in part to achieve this (Gadgetron then Megacorp) Oh and that free/infinite ammo weapon (and one where im a hypocrite and wish it came back) was the suck cannon, in the first Ratchet and clank. You could suck up to five small enemies, then shoot them back out as missiles.

Guys gotta say I always prefer your brother Skillup reviews but recently with Returnal and Ratchet and Clank you guys won him over. I find those games good but not great, I agree with you guys criticisms of them to a T. When I watched your reviews before playing the game i thought you guys were being negative, but after playing them both,I agree on both counts. Honestly I felt I was playing the game a little wrong with the ammo situation. The way it made me pause the action and check through the weapon wheels was a bit off. Quite a stark contrast to the fast paced action. Almost felt like an interruption. Not played Returnal but from watching gameplay, I believe a similar weapon mechnic would work better for Ratchet & Clank.

I have now played 4-5 hours this game is 100 percent gimmicks and nothing but graphics. So then it leads to everyone saying this game is great because of only graphics and that’s just not how it works. Now because of Ralph’s review which holy shit did he buy in to the gimmicks no one believes anyone who says the game just wasn’t that good.

2016 ratchet and clank was way too much emoji movie like to me, compared to the ps2 original. All its jokes were so flat and unfunny, it failed to capture the worlds atmospheres and the combat had 0 challenge. For me rift apart is actually closer to the originals which to me is great, because the 2016 remake was awful as an og fan.

It was always like Nickelodeon style. I really love the game because of nostalgia. My nephew loves it even more because its like a movie to him. Never seen him so invested in a game lmao

I have not even played the game yet and I openly disagree with this video. If you spend the time grinding, getting your bolts right you can upgrade your weapons where they are almost broken. Every R&C game in the past is like that. I doubt you will have ammo problems if upgraded properly. The juvenile complaints are also silly, this is R&C of course its slapstick and silly humorous its what the series has always been.

I might have completely run out of ammo once or twice but it was never an issue. It's a great game reviewers giving it top scores etc. I completely disagree. GTA is a 10/10 game for example, not Rachet and Clank lol. I'd give it a solid 8.

Ratchet and clank is all about switching weapons back and forth super quickly to win a fight. In rift apart an example of an extremely efficient combo is Walk into battle immediately fully upgraded Topiary sprinkle. The put down Doom fist minions 1 rocket drone 1 fun guy Hit the shit our of everything with lightning or handcannon. Pick off what's left with shotgun (forgot what it's called.) Played whole game on legendary whatever the F the difficulty is called. Highest it let me pick. Saying you went from "best" to worst weapon tells me you didn't really think strategically much while playing. No worries though. My first wife was 'tarded and she's a pilot now.

It is because before long, the "standard min spec" will be an SSD rather than a disk based hard drive. Which means cross platform game design will take a big leap.

It's not just about loading times, but also about asset streaming etc.... which effects texture quality, level sizes, object density and variety, and more. It will be a big deal once games start to be built for SSDs from the ground up.

SSDs have been around for years on PC and there are plenty of games that only exist on PC, not on consoles. Aside from a few technical advantages and being generally better looking , the games are the exact same. Like I said, innovation is what's needed, not looking to hardware to brute force some brilliance.

I guess what I mean is, this shift to SSDs being the baseline will allow devs to hit a higher potential, but they need to actual do the work/innovation/optimisation to reap the benefits. SSDs are not just going to magically make their games any better other than loading times. A fair amount of developers probably won't take advantage of this/will be slow to do so, however, there will be a gradual shift in that direction.
