Deadlocked is so underrated, it’s my 2nd favorite r&c ps2 game, only beaten by 3. And that cutscene with the news reporters hoping ratchet saves everyone genuinely had stakes. The gameplay is amazing, the harbinger easily being the coolest “ryno” variant in the series. I could go on and on about how amazing this game is but if I wanted anything else, I just wanted more and that’s about it

This game deserves a remaster so badly! I'd even take another port for PS4/5! Sony porting the PSP games gives me a little hope.

Out of many video game heroes. Ratchet has got to be the most developed and defined. In Ratchet 1, he was bored and wanted to have an adventure on his own time, he was more brash around people and had a hot head. He couldn't let his grudges go until a while passed by. He was immature and selfish at worst. The 1st game taught him to be responsible and with Clank, he would start to mellow out more and got his worst aspect of his emotions under control. By Going Commando, he was cordial, and showed modesty. Especially when talking about how he saved the galaxy, he matured very much during the last part of the 1st game and the year after, thanks to Clank's influence. However, he still retained his core values at the start, it just didn't control him into being a jerk. During the events of going Commando he was given an offer to help another Galaxy that was in trouble, a Galaxy that if he were to refuse it wouldn't change a thing where he was home. But he accepted the offer. Contrast with Ratchet who would have said no just a year earlier. He was taught to become more professional, more organized, due to being inducted as a soldier. He still had his somewhat improved callous moments only when it came down to what he considered to be a situation that was either ridiculous to him or thought of a better way to do it, without using the rock. He met the Hippy and was given wisdom, despite writing it off, he still grew to be more thoughtful so whether he knew or not the hippy's wisdom would grow on him. By the end of going Commando. He was now a mature, reasonable and professional when it was deemed necessary. He still had a bit of a resentment towards Quark, but as time went on it slowly faltered. He even mention almost missing him because of how silly he was. He stopped Quark, and simply made it out as a job to be done, and not "Just to get back at Quark". By this point he knew Quark was just a knuckle head. A year later, Up your Arsenal. He's living it up in a high tech, ostentatious penthouse with everything he was happy with, comfy and enjoying himself. This time no representative comes to Ratchet for aid in this new crisis that's taking place back in his home galaxy of Solona. He catches a news report and immediately begins to make preparations to go back and help take care of the situation, still maintaining his professional commando principles. Would Ratchet from 1 go back? He'd most likely would say, "sucks to be them, I got a new home now, better than my last one, I'm not leavin' here at all." However, this is year 3 Ratchet, he's willing to do what he can. This time Up Your Arsenal's events made him grow even more as a person. He still deep down had his core personality problems, time from time. He was salty about losing, he didn't like the role he was given, and changed the channel. However his personality was still much better, regarding AL. In the first game he outright called him a nerd. During 3, his core ratchet 1 personality was still a bit reactive. Although, he was thoughtful enough to discreetly tell Clank that he spoke "nerd" to reason with AL during Marcadia. This time part 3 would finally purge that little core Ratchet still retained since the beginning and that came in the lesson of being close to people and developing a bond with them. From 1, Ratchet was a loner and took him till 80% of the game to fully get used to Clank. During going commando he learned to be more responsible and thoughtful, but he still has a little trouble with people skills, however the people he met during that time did help him become more thoughtful and considerate, but he never stayed in contact. Up Your Arsenal allowed him to make friends and stay in contact with them, which developed his social skills more and more, as well as his Bond with his crew, and even crushed any hard feelings with Quark. Late in the game, he grows more concerned about his comrades, he even risked his life for Quark to return. Of course during the funeral, he still had some improvement with his social skills, but he tried his best until he realized he's coming off as a Jackass. He even shushed Klunk, who was thought to be Clank before bad mouthing Quark. It showed Ratchet knew Quark was full of hot air; but had improved temperament not to bring up the past when they had bad blood; the professionalism to know that's not how you act at a funeral, even if you hate the guy; and the 3rd was being used to him being around Ratchet enough to not let his Legacy befouled by Clank. He would soon have the affect of having people around him and caring about him, and vice versa, for him to locate Quark and convince him to not hide, to be the hero Ratchet once thought he really was back before. Once Nefarious was defeated, thanks to Quarks help. The game ends with him finally growing out and moving past those core negative traits he once had. He was surrounded by everyone he's ever met since the first game, he's no longer bothered by having the Chauffer role, and is generally happy to see the movie his friend is a major star in. He's with a woman, who's helped him faze out those final negative core traits. At this point of his life, he's at his most well adjusted and happy state. You can see the results of his complete personality transformation at the start of Deadlocked. He and AL are hanging out and speak with each other without Ratchet feeling any irritation towards him, That's his friend and comrade. He's became much more thoughtful even to a fault, where he has to rehearse what to say to "The new president" because despite still being into her, he's not absent mindedly blurting things out that embarrass him like "Marry me'. This Ratchet we see manning the Starship Phoenix is 95% a different man than he was in the first game. The other 5% is still there because everybody gets mad at one point in their life, but that doesn't define him no more. He's made it to the top from when he was working on a shabby ship just to peruse around the cosmos. Anyways, that's my thought on how well developed Ratchet is as a character, and the events of Deadlock really put the "New Ratchet" to test to see if when it came down to the most dire of circumstances he'd end up slowly retaining the worst aspects of his personality from the first game, and it goes great! You can notice some parts of Deadlocked he'll display a bit of his old personality, not really the bad aspects, but the aspects he hasn't really displayed for years. Such as being stoked he gets glory and wealth, almost forgetting he's held hostage, concerning Clank, until Ace tells them both what being a contestant here really is what it's about, and Ratchet quickly becomes his heroic and selfless person again, Lecturing him on how wrong it is to kill people who are forced to be enslaved there just for fun. Of course by the end of the game is when Ratchet really becomes a different person. Here's my view. I've always considered Deadlocked to be the Ratchet and Clank game that caused Ratchet to go through quite a bit of psychological traumas. For the first 3 games he had the choice to decline going on his adventures, he wasn't a prisoner. He's fought many foes for 4 years, but when the Phoenix was boarded, he and the crew that remained on board had no choice. He was subjected to around 6 months as a prisoner, fighting for his life constantly. That's why I consider the PSP side story Size Matters; to matter a bit more. Afterwards, he's on the beach with Clank, his armor that he's been wearing for 3 years, has been shed, back to his casual outfit. He even talks about taking a year off from being the hero. What he went through in Deadlocked likely caused him psychological harm. Another sign of it is in the future series, he's more serious than ever. I always had a head canon that after deadlocked, he has had psychological help, perhaps even suggested he takes a break from the Q force and just takes a Vacation at a comfortable planet until he can recover. Quark being there may have seemed like he was going to mess that up. But I also think going on Quark's adventure helped Ratchet get back into the swing of things and improved his mental health a bit more. Soon after the future series began, he was back home still doing the rest of his RNR until the attack. Luckily he recovered enough to jump into action, this time more willingly than ever before, and once hearing about the Lombax race being mention likely made him decide to see more into it. Its obvious he knew for a while he was the only Lombax, but since nobody was talking about it, it didn't really mean that much to him. Similar to how he met the Desert drifter that taught him something that would stick with him to make the decision not to have anything to do with Dreadzone, and to sacrifice himself, only then to save who he could when given the chance. I think Dreadzone is the cause for him to look more into the Lombax race. I have the feeling if Deadlocked didn't happen, and the question of his race was brought up, he wouldn't have cared as much as he did in the game. Deadlocked may have been a traumatic even in Ratchet's life, but it made him stronger, both mentally and physically and wiser. Otherwise the future series wouldn't have been as "high stakes" and likely he may have even eventually lost interest, or have a more detached demeanor without that DreadZone experience. That's my take, what do you think?

I couldn't agree more, I love how intertwined Ratchet and Qwarks' character development is. If it hadn't been for qwark pushing ratchet to go on these adventures to stop him, Ratchet would have given up after locating him in blackwater City in the first game!

i secretly still wish for a sequel to Deadlocked with that dark atmosphere and another bangin soundtrack. i really wouldn't mind them switching it up for a spinoff

Couldn't agree more. Whilst the original style of ratchet game is great, they have a different style with deadlocked/gladiator that is proven to work. It'd be such a good idea to do another ratchet and clank online multiplayer game in the style of this.

I would expect this kind of content from a channel with 100k or more subs. This is impressive for such a small channel. Keep it up, and you might just make it. I'm definitely subscribing.

Out of all of them, this is also the one I'd love to see get a remake or, at the very least, a remaster. If they got the original game, re did the graphics, and expanded on it to add more content, I'd be absolutely thrilled!

these games were my entire childhood. i’ve absolutely loved the format of the last two R&C uploads so far and kind of regret not fully giving gladiator (or deadlocked as i know it) a try when i was younger. keep up the great work man!

It gets hard to hear what you're saying at around 22:20, the music is too loud compared to your voice. You should look into how to mix music with voice overs, maybe your video editor has an auto-ducking or sidechaining feature to automate that. And it'd be neat if you could put the track names into the video, maybe as a little overlay that fades away a few seconds after the track starts (I really appreciate when people do that, you have to edit the video anyway, and it's easier than writing timestamps in the description) 👀

This I'd also a concern I have with this. I've always found the sound balancing a little difficult, bit I'm trying to improve with every video! 😄 I'll definitely look into these suggestions!
