I love how your toy reviews all have kind of a story arc. They all have escalating tension, a climax, and a sort of moral at the end. And it all comes off so effortless. Amazing!
I'd argue i love it more due to the design having more of a "battle/combat medic" feel to it, yea he's still a healer, but in combat, he could also shine, as the 2007 city battle showed.
There has been a rumor/theory going around that all of the NEST repaints were originally going to be Universal Park exclusives. Megatron was themed that way, but saw a general release, and then we got Bonecrusher and now Ratchet.
I think that gag at around the 6:05 mark may be my new fave! LOOK OUT, IT'S THE KOALA CRESCENT MOON STONEHENGE LANDER TETROMINO OXBOW LAKE AMPERSAND NESTING TABLE SIX!
I had the scan series Sideswipe and he looks fantastic! I love that you can see the head in the back even if it is goofy. I already had the mold, but I was appreciative to receive him as a gift
Baypril was great fun and I hope we see it again. That era is both unfamiliar to me yet also where some of the toys I most remember from childhood came from, and as such it’s always interesting to see covered with such enthusiasm.
I feel like Buzzworthy NEST Ratchet is like the 2007 “what if this car had a robot mode?” using the NEST Humvees from ROTF (and possibly DOTM) except the perfect alt mode just kinda turns into Ratchet again
That hood flip the mech tech one does is kinda like the one MPM Jazz does. Kinda neat seeing that on a regular deluxe figure. On Jazz it's a kind of double flip around. like the inner part flips and the you flip the whole thing again.
The hood-torso-flip thing is REAL, you can actually see Ratchet do it twice in TF1! (Can't... tell if any of the other movements are consistent, but still!!)
Baypril was a fantastic set of videos. I loved how each one had a distinctly different vibe going on with the movie theme linking them together. Thew videos are always great but it feels like we might be entering a real golden age of them.
Hftd rescue ratchet (the g1 coloration of the transcan one) is my definitive movie ratchet, mostly because of nostalgia and because it was a gift from Grandpa almost a decade ago. I love that mold with all my being and even if mine has a broken skirt hinge, I still love it like it's a masterpiece.
I feel ya! I got figures from people who've passed too and they just hit different. You like em no matter what cause they bring back great memories! 😁🥲👍🏻
Fun fact: I had the 07 rescue ratchet toy as a kid, and me being 4 I thought his full name was actually "rescue ratchet". So for a period of time I went around saying my favorite Autobot was Rescue Ratchet.
Hi, post-G1 fan here. I bought Rescue Ratchet back when it came out because I thought Ratchet's on-screen colors were ugly. I still think that, in fact.
SAME! although I’m weird in that I became a fan in about 2010 and part of my formative experience included G1 (also every other show I could find on the RU-vid of the time but yeah) and yeah classic white and red ambulance just always made sense over that naff crossing guard vest yellow of the film or the green the toys all went with
That guy who did the Spinister repaint must be real fun at parties. I mean, couldn't even take two minutes to pick out a contrasting color for the repaint. No, just olive drab all the way down like the world's most boring superhero, Captain Dullard.
When I was little, I had a Voyager Ratchet. Something on it broke, but not enough to make me not love it, it was one of my favorites at the time. At one point my mom shipped a few of my broken figures to Hasbro, for repair/replacement, including Ratchet. When the box arrived, I was very excited to have Ratchet back, but I guess they didn't have one at the warehouse so they sent me Blackout. I hated Blackout for over 10 years because of that. I missed my Ratchet so bad, one time someone brought the Rescue Ratchet repaint for me to play with, and I low-key tried to steal it. But now I'm mold collecting Voyager Ratchet, and the only ones I'm missing are Night Ops and Rescue.
Please, someone, need a screencap with Thew crossing his fingers for RotB not to suck!! xD Man, I really forgot about those repaints for Ratchet. The semitransparent one is really cool! :D
The nostalgia for some of these figures. Movie Ratchet is probably my favourite out of all the Bayverse designs and characters, maybe aside from Barricade in the 07 film. And despite not doing a whole lot throughout all the movies he was in, his death saddened me more than Ironhides weirdly, everything up to being unceremoniously executed was way more brutal than Sentinel's point-blank shot with a cannon that gradually rusts a victim.
I love Bayverse Ratchet. I had the 07 legends class figure that was a g1 repaint and came with Brawl, which was my first Transformers figure ever. I also have the DOTM deluxe, which may be one of my favorite transformers figure ever. Ratchet is also one of my favorite Transformers character and design ever. I always had and will love him. RIP Ratchet.
Somehow I did not realize that I was actually the one who sent him the red Ratchet from dark of the moon he said my name and everything. I had to go back to the damnit open to be sure. Well I feel silly and honored lol. Thank you Thew and for the record I would not mind seeing a review of Evac lol.
Great way to end off the month. Never came across any of the unusual repaints, but have the original release from all 3 original movies. As much as I still love the chunk of 07 voyager Ratchet, the DOTM deluxe release was pretty much perfect though the peg on the original mech tech weapon broke off as it was molded gold probably. Kind of explains why the Buzzworthy opted for a different weapon all together from one of the other deluxes. Really wish Hasbro had given this guy the Human Alliance treatment during the ROTF subline as that could have been amazing. As for May, would be hilarious to see an ROTF twins roundup as a memorial as they'll probably never see a Studio Series release.
11:46 I heavily believe that nest ratchet is just there for people who never got the molds. Same with Bonecrusher and Jeep Bee. So I have head canoned all of them to be Sector seven allied mercenaries
That would be half me; I would have skipped Jeep Bee if I knew the NEST version was coming because I think that the colors on him and Ratchet are garish (never liked Bonecrusher's design); but instead of Sector 7 Mercs they are traitors Outbreak (instead of Outback) and Pharma (until they release an IDW version).
zoomer here, 07 Rescue Ratchet was my first transformers toy and I still have him! I loved him when I got him for Christmas that year and I love him today, just a big chunky fun robot
Funny thing, the 07 voyager Ratchet was actually the first Transformers toy I ever owned as a kid, I remember I literally brought him everywhere I went. Really regret giving him away though, hoping to one day find one again
I might look for that Buzzworthy Ratchet. I don't own a single Movie Ratchet toy because the Michael Bay movies are a crime against humanity, but that grey guy isn't even *trying* to be Ratchet so I can just assume that he's another character entirely and enjoy a transforming truckbot.
I am very thankful for this review I had a movie ratchet as a kid and to know what it was makes me really happy the only thing is that all I have of it is the roof of the truck
Ah, '07 Rescue Ratchet. One of my first Transformers ever. And I broke it in the first week because I was a very stupid 7-year-old who couldn't figure out the windshield. Still love it to bits, though.
5:38 I don't agree with your take on the colors for GDO Ironhide (I think the red looks awful, G1 reference or otherwise), but Ratchet objectively looks spangly in gleaming white and red. This has been my default movie Ratchet for well over a decade and that ain't changing, even if SS gets off its ass and makes a similar one.
The movie 1 voyager ratchet is probably one of those toys I wanna own again from my childhood, it was the only movie toy (specifically the g1 redeco) that stayed in good condition so I gotta say it was a quite a well built guy among toys that held together pretty great. I was very much that kid who was rather rough with my toys growing up until I lost it during a move along with HA Barricade and HA skids around 2010. god I miss those toys so much.
voyager has the mid section transformed backwards, it should look a lot nicer and have the windshield on his back, with even faux bumper details to make it look like its not backwards 😂
i'm that post-g1 fan! yeah. the red and white looks a lot better cos it really makes him seem more like a medic. i've never seen a lime green ambulance
14:36 I actually think thats badass. A lot of people were saying that its a G1 version of Bayverse Blackout. So thats what it is to me lol, I think he actually pulled it off fantastically. Good review btw!
I first got into Transformers with Animated in 2006 and the 2007 movie line, but I thought the G1 repaints of the movie toys were so cool. G1 Jazz, Rescue Ratchet, Generations Ironhide - I thought those were as cool as the movie paint jobs, and I hunted for those like crazy.
I managed to get a hold of ROTF Rescue Ratchet while thrifting a few years back. I agree that it is kind of mid, but I do appreciate that it's at least relatively simple to get in and out of vehicle mode compared to some of the other fiddly messes of the line (I bought ROTF Prime when it was new. I respect it as a feat of engineering but I can only put it in vehicle mode once a year for sanity's sake)
The movie ratchets, even in super size have been hidden gems for me. Excellent tribute to the misunderstood medic no one asked for but 3% of us wanted and didnt even know it.
No Bichael May? Anyway, on Ratchet: I kinda regret never getting the 07 Voyager mold. I always liked the bulk, as inaccurate as it is. Just sorta works in a way. And especially in that G1 color scheme, hot damn! Maybe some day I'll pick up a pre-owned copy.
Ratchet has always been special to me, he was a big part in every Transformers cartoon I grew up watching, he was big in the movies, and though Bumblebee was always my favorite, Ratchet was my first proper Transformers toy. Specifically, the G1 Rescue Ratchet repaint of the Legends minifigure.
