Yuka is a really cool app but you have to take the results with a grain of salt. For example, you'll never find chocolate with 70+/100 rating because it's ,by essence, calorie dense. Likewise, don't freak out if your moisturizer or toner doesn't rate 100/100. Some ingredients are red flagged but the studies they base they rating on are for very high dosage and/or not conclusive enough (but I totally understand the "better safe than sorry" policy). Also, good rating doesn't mean the product works! (I had a few bad experiences with solid conditioners that were an absolute waste of money) It's a great tool but it takes a little time to understand how it works. I personally love the free recipes you get with their newsletter. They're very healthy and yummy😋
They're pretty famous for being independent and impervious to brands and big companies. Am I too naive for believing it? Maybe... But honestly, if you follow their recommendations, you'll be VERY healthy! @@elizabuga4337
This is why I stopped using the Yuka app. It’s rating on straight ingredients alone, without taking dosage into account at all. But the ingredient doesn’t make the poison, the dosage does.
I think the app would be better if you could filter the “high calorie” variable out of its ratings. If the goal is purely for impact on health, and you’re not concerned with losing weight, then the caloric density shouldn’t affect its rating.
I interpreted the high calorie rating as being relative to how many nutrients are in it. For example, the popcorn doesn't have much nutritional value at all compared to the vegetables- nearly all it's calories are from oil.
Patty dancing with a bag of frozen veggies put such a big smile on my face. It's the silly things that truly warm my heart, so I truly appreciate this silly place. Thanks as always for the vid Patty
Hearing you talk about nutrition is always super eye opening. Having a fitness interest can quickly turn into obsessing over calories and whatnot so it's great to have you reminding us that's it's not the end of the world to not track everything🙆♀Thanks for keeping it real Patty
A lot of additives are just code names. So stuff like "E330" is just citric acid, which is already plentiful inside lemons, oranges, lime etc. There are some bad once out there but they tend to be on the lower end of the numbers, like E104 , E110 etc. You all consume quite a lot of E621 (Monosodium Glutamate or MSG for short) in your daily life, like soy sauce, instant noodles etc, which is why those things taste incredible. Put MSG on an apple and you'll see how potent MSG really is. So just because something has additives or preservatives doesn't automatically mean it's unhealthy.
citric acid used in food industry is harvested from black mold trough many processes, not from limes and oranges. its toxic to humans of course and causes same symptoms as black mold exposure
"Almonds have small udders" and that's what keeps me prescribed. Never see any camera person credits, huh? No gold stars for that dedication? Another great watch, thanks team LBP
Game changer...thanks for the video. So, as my husband and I watched your video we had to pause it, download the app, and scan (almost) everything in our pantry. We love watching your videos and your positive vibe/energy.
I love the context you provide for the "health score". I also love how you are not afraid to show your viewers that you are REAL. Both are very important.
I love this. It reminded me of working in a health food store for four years and realizing a lot of the product wasn’t up to par in regards to sugar/fat content ugh
seems like a really nice app for finding additives, macros are comparatively easy but the little things are harder great vid as always patty and hope you have a great week!!
queen Patty i loved todays video beyond words, i love the grocery videos, and ur so cool for using ur influentialness to teach about things like this, its something i care about a lot i read all the ingredients. u like to keep things funny and silly but ur actually a very thoughtful, kind hearted genius arent u? making the world a better place one special video at a time, ur the best love u
Great video. It’s really all about being aware of what you’re consuming. Read your labels. Know the ingredients. I think the best thing about the app is learning what all those additives are and what they can potentially do to you. Thank you Patty!
Super glad you did this video & shared the app. I already used it on some of my stuff & well, ya..some stuff I thought were better choices turned kinda not. But I had a one or two good & excellent scans as well so that's good. This will be super helpful next time I get groceries. Thanks Lean Beef!
seeing Patty look around nervously at the other shoppers while she was trying to talk was real af XD gotta say i can relate with that, and i don't even do videos. Great video as always! keep crushing it
I would love this exact same concept but you find the healthiest and highest app rated (with a grain of salt of course) items for pre and post workout or just snacks in general. Loved this video, great job!!
I can't really afford to be nutritious and partake in supplementation. That's one of the considerations I put into my little program. Im getting stronger and somehow more mobile quickly. Thanks for the inspiration, Patty.
Sweet video 😁 would you consider making this a mini series? Yukas results are interesting but u live your opinions to go along with the ratings. I'd definitely watch more of this
I really love Costco. Wish the European Costcos would bring the same stuff the American ones have! And for the record we do have Skittles in Europe, at least in Spain. Not a fan of them personally. M&Ms are way better hehe.
The effect of hyperactivity caused by food colouring is quite small. At least that's what the research points to that I've read. I think most people who associate hyperactivity with food colouring forget about the high amount of sugar that's usually in bright coloured food.
The 100 point scale seemed decent, but also seemed to prioritize the caloric density a lot (as if something can't be healthy and calorically dense), as well as ranking certain things suspiciously highly, like almond milk. Thanks for the demonstration!
YEP, I'm sensing "climate impact" to be a hidden factor here. Unfortunately, there were no meat products (except for the chicken). Then again, the only product that scored a 100 was not an ultraprocessed food.
@@BruceKarrde what would be an example for a product which is ultra-processed and deserves a 100? The app seems to be rating caloric density, added sugars and additives pretty strictly. I personally would also count these as health factors. Maybe not as strictly as the app, but I can see were it is coming from.
@@BruceKarrdeif climate impact was a factor, the almond milk should have been rated a lot lower because it's very water intensive and is usually produced in drought sensitive areas of the US.
I laughed when you grabbed the FruitLoops box. We all know that box will not rank high. But who can resist such a colorful box, a great mascot, and such colorful cereal? Same with fruity pebbles. The petit pots are a good find, especially since the little glass jars are totally reusable. Anyway, entertaining video and it looked like it was fun to make.
Thanks for turning me on to the Yuka. Thats some fire stuff!! YUKA! Seriously thank you though.🙏🔥 I actually really enjoyed this content. And your looking very fit. Keep pushing!!!
THAT APP IS FREAKIN DOPE ! for those with medical issues and have to watch their potassium and sodium levels etc. this is amazingly eazy to track. WAY TO WORK THAT COMPUTER AND DROPPING ANOTHER HIT VIDEO .
I go to Costco a lot. I’ve always wondered about all these products. Thank you for making this video. You explain it so simple. I saved this video. Hope you have a wonderful day.😊
I learned my lesson about highly marketed health foods from eating a bag of Fat Free Lays thinking they were healthier potato chips. It had this ingredient called Olestra and said on the bag *Warning: May cause anal leakage.* Sounded rare, like it never happens unless you have some kind of reaction. I should’ve known better. The aftermath was much worse than the sugarfree gummy bears that I also thought were healthy. Not only complete exorcism of my bowels. Afterwards, couldn’t cough, sneeze, or make any sudden moves without having an accident. Had to stay home for a couple days to avoid embarrassing myself in public.
🤣🤣 too relatable…One Christmas had a bad cold and was visiting my mother’s house. She was like oh honey take that bag of cough drops with you. I sucked down half the bag on our long ride home. They were sugar free made with maltitol. Only once it was too late did I see the “this may cause gastrointestinal distress” warning on the bag. I stay far away from that ingredient nowadays.
@@beedoose3701 Yeah, that maltitol is the stuff in the protein bars that was giving me tons of gas when I was in the Marine Corps. There was a few times I let one go in formation and people would start gagging. I got chewed out in the Company 1st Sergeant’s office and I couldn’t hold it in. I busted ass while he was screaming at me to stop doing it. He made me pull weeds outside the Company office. They wouldn’t let me indoors because I was a hazard.
You could use the fruit loop analogy for people “to be beautiful and colourful, it’s expected to have additives” also the almond udder milk joke got me 😂
I eat very little processed/packaged food (I eat mostly fruits, vegetables, grains and beans), but that app seems really cool to explore. I am going to take a look for sure. Great video as always Patty, really informative actually. Not surprised by the M&M hahahahah
5:33 Natural cocoa powder can stimulate vasodilation by improved nitric oxide and have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory capacities, helps to achieve a great pump 💪
Lesser evil is definitely healthier than skinny pop. Coconut oil is far better than refined seed oils and the mcts in it make it a different type of saturated fat the body can use for energy as opposed to other types. The natural flavor is questionable but at least its organic sources.
dearest queen Patty, how are u and how was ur week? did u recover from ur cold? on monday i did a special prayer for u to heal faster but maybe it doesnt get answered because of my street activities... speaking of activities they went ok today no police 🤞 i especially love the bigness of ur t-shirt in todays video as i love when u wear big shirt😍😍😍😍 btw queen Patty i didnt miss any workout this week, its all because u help me stay motivated and disciplined , i been doing the mobility and stretches every workout just like u, thanks to u i can return to my sport next month in better shape than ever, im so grateful about it that its embarassing... thank u for being internet friend with me, love and appreciate u
My opinion: When I started exercising and eating healthier; I learned to read those nutrition labels. That was an eye-opener in understanding what's really in food. I also learned that not all protein powders are created equal. All those processed foods you were showing, I would probably not buy most of them.
When Patty was excited for the free sample and then seeing the happiness leave her face when she tried it 😂😂 priceless 🤌🤣💀 informative and funny as always patty!!
I haven’t seen anyone make this correction yet so here I am - most European countries do have skittles, but they don’t use the same additives or colourings as skittles in the USA, as many are considered too hazardous and therefore we use alternatives.
Happy Sunday Patty❤👍 You should’ve checked _Mr. Goodbar_ to find out if it’s guilty of being _Mr. Badbar._ Also check _Smart Water_ to see if it’s not the sharpest water in the fridge. I’m drinking it right now. I paid and extra dollar at the gas station to reap the “so called” benefits.
the yuka app is not yet available in my country 😢 on the bright side most packaged food here has government mandated "seals" that indicate "high in sugar" or "high in sodium", "high in calories", etc. so I guess that'll have to do for now 🤷🏻♂️
Love the vid! The Yuka app should definitely be taken with a grain of salt especially since they don’t take dose into account and can definitely mess with people with ED’s, that said it can be useful for dietary restrictions!
