Wig and head wrap girlie here 🙋🏽‍♀️. I didn't wear wigs for the longest time because I had such a super specific fear that my wig would get caught onto a tree branch and I would walk off without it lol 🤦🏽‍♀️ Also, the bun is my go to hairstyle for special occasions 🙂💛

Best: 1. Wigs. Why? Convience. Protective style. Safes time and energy. Versatility in style, color and texture. 2. Worst. Any style dealing with my natural hair. Why? Time and energy spent dealing with natural hair I don't have. Thanks for sharing. 🙏🏾💜💐😀

Ooh, I feel you with no1; the only time I wear wigs is for a cosplay. Never tried crochet, I think it looks pretty but it's too artificial for me. I think Bantu knots look best on shorter lengths, and the partings have to be just right. Love a good blowout, but I tend to add braids or wear it in styles that reduce the bulk because I can't stand hair in my face 😅 I can't do headwraps or else I'll get headaches 😢 I love wearing them for formal african events but I always have to have someone else fix it for me since I wear them so infrequently. I love braids 🤩🤩 I have the thinness issue too, but it doesn't bother me in the slightest. I have twists right now! 😊 As long as my scalp isn't itching (and I don't get them wet and they start actually locking) I don't mind if they get a little fuzzy because they start to kind of look like locs and I like that 😁 I've never worn a weave, and I don't get the appeal. 🤔 I like wash and gos, but the ssks and the tangling are definitely an issue. I've really been getting into twist/braidouts in the last year or so. It's been fun figuring out how to make them work for me. 😊 I like presses! I like my curly hair more, but I wore my hair straight for YEARS and it was fine for what it was. Now however, I will only press on occasion bc it's just more hassle than it's worth to go through the while straightening process. Buns are great!! My go-to is the disc bun, it's easy and you get to use a hairstick, but I like the cinnamon bun as well. I also love the fan bun and a good messy bun with a braid out. Ballarina buns are perfect for formal events, but my favourite has to be space buns. I love those SO much. 😍 I understand what you are saying about just wanting to fit in, but I hope you aren't feeling like you have to hide yourself. I'm pretty much the only person who has hair like me where I work/live, so unless I straighten it it'll always catch attention, so I do whatever I want regardless. My favourite go-to style is probably a half-up, half-down, but every so often I will rock a faux-hawk. I love playing with colour too, and my favourite style of all time is the afro, as big as I can make it. 😁 Very interesting video! I'm starting to get the sense that for a while now you've not been enjoying your natural hair journey - if you need to scale back on being online, please do so, don't feel like you have any obligation to keep showing up for us. You need to do what makes yourself and your family happy, and if that means less videos that's perfectly fine! ❤

As I'm watching I kept realizing that it's more difficult for you as a black woman in Australia, than let's say in America, Canada or the UK, to avoid unwanted attention about your hair. In getting that understanding I truly empathize with your challenges and applaud you 🎉🎉 for trying to figure out ways to just BE & live comfortably with your hair without being the center of attention when you didn't ask for that. ❤❤

great observation! I should have mentioned in the video but this is absolutely a factor.

I hate the feeling of my scalp being trapped under a wig, weave, or wrap. I wear wigs and wraps for the convenience of throwing something on the head to quickly dash out of the house, but ... oh boy! They are so uncomfortable. I will say, loose-fitting crochet hats (not beanies) are a better option. They allow the scalp to breathe and come in amazing styles. However, my own hair in any style is the best. Next to that are braids with added hair. My hair hates to be twisted and contorted in a spiral direction.

I've been natural all my life, never had a relaxer or wore wigs. These weren't common practices in my family so I've had to learn to deal with my hair over the years. Yet I feel like in all my 37 years I'm only really now understanding my hair fully. In my early 20s, I had more disposable income so I would get my hair pressed at the salon on a monthly basis. I guess I'd be considered a straight haired natural but that wasn't really a term back then. I hopped on the natural hair movement after uni and got into the wash and goes but I really hated the shrinkage and all the maintenance, so now I'm getting back into wearing my hair straight again. My only issue is that my hair is high porosity so I get a lot of frizz and I sweat in my head so it's hard to maintain a silk press but I like a good blowout as well. I'm starting to dabble into homemade keratin treatments but they're quite messy and I haven't mastered them yet. I love a good bun but I hate looking bald from the front and I haven't mastered a high bun yet so I often wear them in 2 Bantu knots in order to do Bantu knot outs, but I don't always take them out due to laziness or not wanting to have to detangle and put it back up at the end of the day but sometimes it looks childish so there's no winning. 🙇‍♀️

Okay. I think bantu knots when done well are grown and sexy. My issue with them were sleeping in them and I could nnnNNNEEEVVAAHH successfully fluff/separate my knots to get definition AND volume.

yeah sleeping is hectic in them. the style comes down to preference I guess…

I understand how you prefer not being the center of attention. I’m the only black nurse in my unit and the only one in my neighborhood. So when my hair is out and flowing I get so much attention and people feel that they have the right to touch my hair without permission. So I wear my hair in a low manipulation style and wear a slap cap over it most of the time. On special occasions out with my family I wear wash and go.

I never liked bantu knots... I dont deal with wigs and weave. If I happen to get a curly wig that suits me I might try it. I am very simple I dont do much with my hair when it comes to styling. The most style I does is a bun style sometimes sleek with gel. A bun with my hair out. Just protective style braids or twist. I dont like twist with my own hair my hair strands are fine and it frizzes fast i rather use synthetic hair for a long lasting style and a fuller look. But I learned from a natural hairdresser on youtube if you blow or air dry your hair before protective style it makes your hair look thicker and might last longer. I am on my journey to longer hair i believe it will give more more confidence.

It's the wigs versus the edges for me. Wigs 10: Edges 0. Please don't ask why I still wear them 🙈😂
