What I also find a bit annoying in the natural hair community is that, on occasion, when you have negative feelings or hardships about your natural hair, suddenly you're "subscribing" to Eurocentric standards of beauty. Like, no, maybe I'm just going through a rough patch right now and not really capable of sticking to my prior routines. I don't hate my hair, just struggling 🤷🏾‍♀️ There is genuinely nothing wrong in admitting that proper care of our type of hair requires patience and consistency, but sometimes it's just not possible, and that's okay! Also, your whole aesthetic in this is bomb 💛🔥

Absolutely! it’s almost like people want to turn a blind eye to others real lives experience. which is unfair. Thanks girl 😍

It's not okay for black people to struggle or express feelings of inadequacy. We have to love everything about our bodies, because we are "queens." We are not given the same grace and empathy that white people are given about anything. We can't have bad days, we can lose our life if we have an outburst at the wrong place, at the wrong time. We have to love our noses, our hair, our lips, our skin, our teeth. While other races are allowed to express their insecurities, we are met with exactly what you described.

Haha I’m definitely a realist with a touch of optimism. I think I just like to be real with myself but I also give myself a lot of grace once I’ve done with being so real 😅 it’s all a balance I think . My husband can’t stand that I just say these real things sometimes and claims Im being negative but for me if that’s how I feel , that’s how I feel lol take it or leave it and go be optimistic in your own corner. Can be so irritating sometimes because it’s soo important as humans to have the freedom to feel and acknowledge ALL our emotions . Great video as always 👌🏾

I think that’s a great balance! some situations call for realism and others for optimism or both! I agree we need to allow ourselves to be HUMAN!

Great topic, though I am naturally an optimistic person i am a realist. Things are what they are and sometimes your hair isn't lookin or being it's best. It's okay to live in that moment, because that's when you can get a breakthrough about how to care fo your hair better and healthier. So, let the challenges come because there's growth as in learning on the other side. Thanks.

I think I would describe myself as an optimistic realist. In general, I tend to feel it is what it is, it could be worse but will get better. I never had an issue with my hair until I was diagnosed with CCCA. It is frustrating, but I've been able to accept it and move on to do the necessary things to work on my scalp health and keep it growing.

I agree that we have to acknowledge when we feel negative about something, so that we can consequently find the solution that changes that feeling to a positive one. Sometimes there’s something that can be actively done about it, sometimes it just means changing our mindset or expectations. I think a bit of grace needs to be extended towards one another when we disagree. Good discussion! 💕

I'm definitely an optimist. I always try to find the positive side of everything, even during challenges and struggles. 10:52 Active listening and acknowledgement; I definitely need to practice that more. Some good points made here.
