I went through all your vids on ration. the den and Id like to thank you as they helped immensely. I do have a question on this first vid? When multiplying the fractions in the den. x1/3 *x2/3 why dont you end up with x2/9? Probably a stupid ? but fractions throw me off

Patrick, I love your videos. I share them with my students all of the time, and we explain things in a similar manner. The only thing I would have like to have seen is when you rationalize the denominator with a variable and an even index, you're missing absolute value bars if the variable expression taken outside of the radical is to an odd power.

What if in a+b, a is a negative? Would the conjugate of (-a+b) be (-a-b) or (a-b)? hence only b's process is changed

ok actually i think i figured it out, i was only looking at it as a fraction , so i went back and translated the fractions into cubed roots i.e cubed root of x * cubed root of x^2 gives cubed root of x^3 which cancels out the ^3 leaving you with x. Is this right??

actually normally if you take one math per year starting with algebra 1 in 9th grade then you should start this in 11th grade w/ algebra 2. or if you live in NC itd be in 10th grade cuz they do algebra 1 then 2 then geometry. i took algebra 1 in 8th grade so im doing this in algebra to in 9th grade now

I don't understand why you couldn't minus the square-root of 5 from the square-root of 7 and get the square-root of 2.

Missing is any mention of why one would want to / have to rationalize the denominator (the answer is that there is no good reason, simply a vestige from the pre-calculator days). Meaningless/tedious conventions like this are one reason so many students disconnect from math. I realize you're giving helpful examples to students; it's just too bad that they're being made to do meaningless, routine math.
