Couldn't agree more! The music was the best! Concert tickets were $17.50 with none of this secondary market bullshit. Everything just seemed magical back then...
I’m so Old School, I remember $ 7.50 tickets! Even earlier it was only $5.50! No joke! It was the late 70’s so that’s why. Been going to shows ever since.
Keith Wright So true Keith. Wayyyy underrated my friend. I was part of the original Ratt Gang back in the 80's. I actually worked a show for them in the West Hartford Ballroom in W. Hartford Connecticut. The bill: Ratt, Lita Ford and Twisted Sister. I was 16 and dragging stage equipment. One of my greatest memories. And the band? Awesome. Cordial, cool as ever and respectful to us. Even a snot faced kid like me. Dee Snider was a tool and Lita Ford was the biggest douche I've ever met. Sorry, I get going when Ratt is the subject.
@@JDJD666JD yeah, they do............they were around before metal splintered into 8 billion idiotic sub genres.......metal spans the gauntlet from ratt to priest, metallica to sabbath.maiden to megadeth
Very true, but to their credit I saw them a year or so ago, Concord Chicago, they kicked total ass. I went right after work by myself because I found out last minute. I couldn't tell if Warren was with them or not since I was so far in the back, still they sounded great. I was born in 88 so I missed out on all this stuff, I gotta take what I can get XD.
I saw them in 1982 with Nikki Sixx,in Burbank at the Golden State Motor Hotel . They were still called Micky Ratt. The encore, was Ain't talking about Love by Van Halen ,and they would say Ratt Ratt Ratt ,instead of hey hey hey at the end . Seems like another life time !
Robbin is the underrated one here!! And people who say he's shit go and listen to his early recordings with Mac Meda, Secret Service and the Ratt EP (of which he wrote 90% of the riffs). He was a fantastic (actually somewhat blues based) guitarist who played with a lot of heart. Warren DeMartini definitely got all the recoqnition as being THE guitarist for Ratt in all the guitar mags back in the day but to any real Ratt fan you simply can't deny Robbin's part in this band.
I agree totally with you I miss the soul of robbin I had the chance to see them in 88 and meet them I was a kid back then 14 but he took the time to talk to a young guitar player I was more into Robbins bluesy style.
+Robin Hage I was always curious if Robbin wrote most of the riffs? I haven't heard the same cool riffs since Robbin died. I think that if this was the case, he undervalued what he was to the band. R.I.P. Robin. Stephen said that he couldn't play anymore which is why he couldn't tour with Ratt but from this clip, he could still play.
+Brian Knapp The show was quite a few years before Robbin succumbed to his addiction. it was the beginning of their career so yeah, Robbin was rockin' it!
Hmm, I actually made a mistake. I didn't mean this clip, I meant the one where he is in the studio with Juan at the controls. I didn't think that he played badly. I know this is a very early Ratt performance so this is not the clip I was referring to.
+Robin Hage Robbin definitely wrote stuff...but when it comes to pure soloing, there is no comparison. Warren was so technically advanced and flawless for his time, the level of skill is insane. Robbin basically just played pentatonic runs in this video, it's just not that impressive when you compare them to DeMartini's spontaneity.. I don't think "underrated" is the correct term. Perhaps "underknown", but even then Ratt as a whole was a highly successful band and they all had their place in the mid 80s.
Poor Robin never got his props for the King V .. inspired by him, made for him & was even given his nick name. Probably the most popular Jackson after the Randy Rhodes model.
The Original name for the King V was the double Rhoads . They renamed it later after Robin ,but the new ones are smaller ,mainly because on little Dave of megadeth . No one even knows about Robin Crosby anymore , he was a great . I was able to pick up one of Robins Vs ,it's a 1985 faded white ,absolutely beautiful and great playing and sounding guitars!
@@MichaelDouglasSkewes Cool info.....Too bad it's not called the "Crosby....or R.C. model.....or something like that? I'm just learning from this concert alone.....what an important/overlooked ingrediant Robin was to early RATT.
Yeah, and it was out, someone wanted a Rhoads Jackson V with dots. And was immediately after Randy was gone,I know the guy ,it was going to have stars instead of dots. It eventually went to Sandoval . Anyway , the double Rhoads was perfect for Robin Crosby, and Robin wanted to call it the King, no one in Motley Crue has a signature model . But Robin got this ,right when Nikki got a Hamer ,so Vinnie Vincent was actually an amazing player in the WRONG band ,KISS ,but he was the first to have the Rhoads model, which as his ego grew after KISS ,he wanted a VV guitar! So,there are people out there ,and mustsine ACTUALLY wanton Washburn to get a smaller guitar made, and it was all his,no first designer ,like Robin . I do wish they would have named it the RC or Crosby V . But,also, because he has gone, Robin was the main writer and lead player for Mickey Ratt,or Ratt ,even with Jake E lump in th band . And when Warren got in,he had that George Lynch ripping off Eddie Van Halen look ,but not style, he was just .a good player ,and the more smack Robin was taking, the drug ,he was becoming just a rythym player, and he was not around enough to cement the name with the gui tar. It is sad,Robin was a nice guy,and talented! And i think 6'7" ,which was 3 inches taller then me,it was strange to see someone that tall, most guys in band are midgets !
Playing little league and going thru La Jolla high was the best Robbin. Love and miss you. I'll love and listen to Ratt till the day I die. And when then throw my ashes off of wind n sea, I'll be with you. Your friend Danny Johnson
That was fucking way cool, Danny. Lot of people still don't know Robbin could have had a baseball career but chose music. Wind 'n Sea! When surfing was for mellow people, not the agro's of today.
I love RATT and have seen them 5 times. Robbin was the glue to this band. Warren absolutely kicks ass. Bobby always put on a show. Juan on the bass was phenomenal and Stephen was just a kick ass singer. When this band played it was a PARTY!! I hate to see good things like this come to an end but they need to move on. What a great great band...one of my all time favorites!
Totally agree......never seen them live with Crosby......only MTV videos and the first few records. The videos seemed to showcase Warren alone as the "Lead Guy"........but it's so not the case live.
The vocals sound really good for sure here. I remember seeing this when it aired in 1984 I was a senior in high school, we definitely had some great music for our time didn’t we?🤘
Hell yeah we did. And as soon as my parents caught wind of it, it was not allowed whatsoever. About 1983. Boy did I go out of my way to buy the best new stuff. It was coming out like crazy! Pretty rough time for me. And awesome at the same time. I graduated in '87.
Saw them 5 times in the Tampa Bay Area tickets were about 5 bucks depending on the headline act 7.50 if they were opening for Aerosmith HA HA good times for sure Never will forget those days Seems like yesterday unfortunately 😢
one of the most underrated bands of the 80s. everyone always talks about poison, motley crue, etc. and those guys were good but ratt had a lot of just fun cool songs. they riled you up but not to the point of today's hard rock/metal whatever where you listen to the lyrics and it is like they're trying to make you get pumped to go on a killing spree. this was just guitars sex and fun. RIP 80s you will be missed.
That's because Ratt kind of screwed themselves by dropping their semi-punk edge and going pure glam. There next album, Invasion of your privacy , was just loaded with filler. A lot of bands made that mistake in the 80s. Poison and Cinderella started as complete Glam and immediately were morphing out by the next album. That is why they actually did better. Ratt had good song writers that could have defined the genre, rather than just ride it. "Nobody rides for free" was a return back to their more semi-punkish roots. The tempo and the riffs needed one more tweak to be a little less generic but the lyrics are traditional RATT kick ass. Overall, the song was an awesome piece of work. Warren is a really complex guitarists who has strong blues roots.
Blotzer on the kit, laying it down hard and bringing in some creativity and taste. Love his sound too, heavy Ludwigs and those Paistes cut. They were a great band back then.
I too saw my fair share of Ratt concerts(4), and they always sounded like garbage; mostly from being too drunk. I kept thinking I would eventually see a good show (loved the albums), but I never did.
This video is clearly edited. All you have to do is look at what they are doing on the guitars and bass. They probably did some clean up in the studio with the audio later including the background cheers. Kiss live albums were also cleaned up later.
Still following Stephen to this day, many concerts this Summer 2022!!! Thank God he Plays RATT music!!! Best Music in my lifetime!!!! RATT N ROLL 2022!!!!!!
For its time, Out of the Cellar (1984) was the best produced and mixed album I had ever heard! Even 37 years later (2021), this album stands the test of time! Always my favorite party album. Played entire album for years. Loved every song! Thanks to Ratt for being such a memorable band from my favorite decade!
AngieDokken I was there! Moved from Texas to L.A. in the mid Eighties and even lived in Hollywood. I was down on the strip almost every night- never partied with Ratt, but I definitely partied hard! I ran into Slash one night and then was at a Christmas show with Robbin Crosby at the Roxy and I was walking right behind him and this girl that was just about the hottest girl I've ever seen. Met a lot of movie stars too. Want to get the feel of the times? METH. METH. And cocaine. And lots of booze. Everyone was out of their minds high. Los Angeles is insane, I left in the 90s and wouldn't wish that on a snake. So many drugs and such a dirty, depressing, 3rd world place. But it was good times while I was still young and dumb.
It's a miracle I survived all of that. I was pretty out of control. I was living in this one house with all these crazy druggies and JUST after I moved out and went to rehab they were raided by the FBI! Undercover cop stepped in through the window while they were 'partying.' It was the neighbors that told me about it because all those guy were all busted and in jail. Shoo! I got some WILD stories- and a lot of it I'm not exactly proud of! Yikes.
Jeff Bridges Things only get worse as time goes on. The rave scene in the late 90s was much crazier than the 80s rock scene. Nowadays there are even more drugs and more acceptance towards using them.
I would have rather been a part of the 80s rock scene, though. I was a kid in the 80s and fuckin loved that music. Always wished I was born a decade earlier.
Warren is awesome. Steve is too. A singer that sounded like no one else on the planet. Not only unique, but he sounds so much like the studio vocal track that at first I was worried he was lip-syncing - he's THAT good in this performance!
Brings back memories. Ratt was the first concert I ever went to. I was 15 years old and was amazed by the all the girl in short leather skirts. When the lights came back on my head was ringing and my ears felt like they were going to bleed. I thought to myself "Is it over already??" All I knew is I wanted MORE!. My love for rock concerts was born on that night, thanks for the upload!
Def Leppard had the Clark/Willis and Clark/Collen duos, which were great, but the Crosby/Demartini team was on fucking fire! Two amazing and different players melting faces and having the time of their lives in their prime. While DeMartini is an absolute animal, you can't fail to give love and props to Robbin Crosby. He was a beast unto his own as well.
Holy Shit, never knew Stephen's voice sounded this good live. Although I owned all their 80s albums, never saw them back then - which looks to be my loss. Why the hell didnt anyone say anything to me?
I saw this tour but they opened for Judas Priest here in Seattle. I have to admit - they kicked ass. Robin Crosby was truly impressive. He just exuded an aura of a super confident dude.
Out of the cellar is one of the best hair metal albums out there. Warren demartini is a god, robbin Crosby is a riff master and pearcy’s voice is just the perfect blend of range and grit.
I’ve always thought that Stephen sounded like White Trash in Interviews but his voice was rocking back in ‘84. Warren was saturated with natural talent and Robin played counterpoint yet was great too. Of course the circumstances of Robin’s passing were incredibly tragic. Years later I saw the recently reformed RATT in a small club in NYC and they were rusty and Stephen insulted the audience as if we weren’t worthy of his presence. Legends Rise but they Fall too. Still adore Warren and EddieVH.
This is great!!! I remember taping this from MTV when I was a teenager. If I remember right it was Ratt, Dio (solo tour) and Sabbath with Ian on vocals then Maiden from the rainbow with Dianno. I had it on betamax and watched this over and over again with my friends. It was an awesome time growing up in Chalmette, LA and this was our soundtrack to our youth! I love Percy's vocals!!
Mike Dandraia -It's "live" but there's no audience.(?) I was a high school freshman when I recorded this on VHS and watched it a million times, always wondering - where's the crowd?
The vocals seem to have an ATD (automatic double tracking) which is a sort of chorus effect that makes them sound a bit fuller. Probably they were trying to match the record a bit better. That's probably why people believe it's playback. If you check those Ozzy videos from the Diary of a Madman live shows that emerged recently... the ones with Brad Gillis, the effect is even more pronounced and it gives it all away... To me Ratt will always be the best glam metal band. They never wrote format ballads or songs that were too cliche'... alway full of tension and blues!
back in the god old days...The best years of my life...HEAVY METAL ..MTV.....GIRLS....DRUGS.....PARTY......GOOD TIMES.....LIVING LARGE.......FREEDOM.......LESS GOVERNMENT.........NOT A CARE IN THE WORLD.......CONCERTS.......GOOD FRIENDS....Now...Its like that good old Van Halen song ..Where have all the good times gone?
The songs were pretty much monotone for him. Pearcy is said to have a full 4 octave range. I would disagree because I've never heard him go above one or two octaves.
BRIAN SPRUILL Bobby always put on a show? like...how? he was fat just galloped on his drums with a dumb smile. the rest of the guys are what kicked ass. :)
Thanks for posting. Great love video of one of the best yet underappreciated hard rock bands, they're rap right here. Croucier does well with his cameo vocals.
Wow, I am only into the ending of 1st track You Think You're Tough and I am already pleasantly blown away. NO idea it was Juan doing those 2nd lead vocs either. And of course, didn't know HOW MUCH lead that Robbin Crosby did on the earlier stuff either. The end solo Robbin did, just on the 1st opening track for instance! 😦 Yeah man, TY for this upload. 😎🤘🔥🤘
Yes, without a doubt this is real..... and it kicks serious ass. RATT was certainly on top of their game during this time. What great live sound quality. This was a wonderful time for ROCK music. There were soooo many great bands during this time and RATT was one of them. I would like to see the complete footage of this tour. Thanks for the post it sure brings back some great memories.
Those days were awesome as a kid or teen. This band had heart and feel that everyone loved. When guys and girls like a band, they get huge and this band is legendary! Warren DiMartini is a guitar god hands down.
They were on the top of their game back then!!! Shredding guitars!! I did not see the live until REACH FOR THE SKY tour (Britney Fox and KIX opened for them).

Definitely live. I saw them that year opening for Ozzy (with that same banner behind them and everything) and this is exactly how it looked and sounded.
I saw them for the first time in 1984 in Charlotte, North Carolina, with an unknown band opening up for them called Bon Jovi. One of the best concerts I've ever seen in my life.
Saw them on a similarly situated stage first row stage right in 1984. Got my ears blasted as this was back in the day of having floor level speaker systems. Their music holds up after all these years.
