Great video, good to let people know about the differences but both of them are essential to a habitat. Some people think that rattlesnake = bad and should be killed, but they are just as important as gopher snakes. One other difference between the two, and I thought you would show this when you put that rattler in the tube, is rattlesnakes have pupils shaped like a slit, like cats eyes while gopher snake's pupils are round. Was looking for cool rocks in the desert where I live. Found a pile of trash with a small nightstand with drawers. So I decided to look inside and see if I find anything cool, well I did. As I walked up to the nightstand, literally a foot away from me was a gopher snake. I jumped back a little spooked and immediately looked at the tail, no rattle, thank god. I begin to look at its body and noticed it had a brown pattern similar to a rattlesnake but a tan body. Perfect camoflauge considering I walked right up to it. My first thought was garter snake, it was spooked as well and slithered underneath a slab of wood. So, I left it alone and continued exploring.
The best way is to probe them, but there are a few subtle differences that you can look for with rattlesnakes, males generally have a longer tail and grow slightly larger than females.
