Is anyone making an aftermarket traction battery for these vehicles with possibly a higher capacity than the OEM one?

Hi. Nice bideo. Hey my rav4 is 2014 and only gives me 56 miles fully charge. Think I can get more miles with your trick?

Is it possible to upgrade batteries and get more range on this model ? What's gonna be the cost approximatively for a 400mile range battery pack??

Check out James Klafehn on RU-vid. He’s got a pair of these, and he made a battery extender that he hauls around as a trailer for long trips.

It would be purely as an enthusiast since it’s cost prohibitive with current pricing.

they don't make the battery anymore lol you need to junk the car lol . wake up . If you had a gas car you could go to a junk yard get a engine that was reck and put it in your gas car for the same model lol . wake up .

Thanks QCcharge, do you recommend doing this reset on a regular interval? Or is this just informational?

Thanks for this video. I have a 2013 with 93k miles and I am only showing 66 miles on the guess-o-meter after the test. Is it really possible the battery has degraded that bad? Is it possible something else is wrong with the GOM or charging circuit?
@QCCHARGE
@QCCHARGE 9 месяцев назад
Are you sure that the 12v battery was fully disconnected for the test? If the 12v isn't fully disconnected (or disconnected for too short of a time period) the reset won't be performed. It's entirely possible that you could have an actual issue with the battery such as a pack imbalance caused by a weak brick. This is pretty rare, but we have seen it before on the RAV4.

@@QCCHARGEthanks for the reply. Yeah, I disconnected the negative terminal completely for about 8 hours. Super weird though, out of nowhere it jumped to 75 miles when driving today. Guess I’ll keep an eye on it. We’re planning on selling or trading in a few months so really just want to maximize resale value. Thanks again!

How long does the 12v battery need to be disconnected for. Also my charge screen will be it indicate complete with 0 minutes with out unpluging and plugging in again never tops out with the 220v charger. But will witn the 110 VC charger. I think this started when the when they replaced The charger a few years ago but not sure since in never used extended charge until recently

The 12v needs to be disconnected for at least a couple of hours. Overnight works great!

Calculating the degradation of a high-voltage battery using the "Energy Remaining* (until Empty)" parameter value in practice confirms the validity of the methodology shown in this video.

Additional test: If you drive the RAV4 EV at my standard test speed of 100km / 62mph ground speed, it will go almost EXACTLY the rated range. TEST DRIVING PROTOCOL - dry, hard surface level road with no wind or cabin climate control with new condition battery at 70F, no elevation changes, "out-and-back" or loop course to compensate for any wind, 62mph / 100km/h GROUND speed as measured by GPS. So, if the car is new, it will bang out 146 miles (234 km) and the rated range will be 146 under the prescribed conditions. If the rated range is 135 miles (216 km), it will go 135 miles.

Are these serviceable in 2023? I called my local EV independent service garage and they did not seem to think it would be a problem?
@QCCHARGE
@QCCHARGE Год назад
We work on them pretty much every day! We also have lots of parts available for the RAV4 EV, though some are harder to find than others... The most important thing to do is keep on top of checking the speed sensor on the drive unit to make sure you don't have any internal coolant leakage.

Does it really hurt the battery if you charge it in extended range mode regularly?
@lucristianx
@lucristianx Год назад
Essentially the sweet spot for batteries is between 20% to 80%. You still have depreciation, but not as much if you went to 100%. This is dependent on the battery chemistry and cooling method.
@QCCHARGE
@QCCHARGE Год назад
It can, especially in warmer temperatures and if the car sits for long periods of time un-used. Generally speaking, unless you "need" the extra range on a daily basis, there's no need to charge to full. If you're just using extended mode occasionally, then the impact you would have on the battery would likely be very small. In the case of the RAV4, the extended mode actually acts as a buffer to "hide" degradation when not in use. If the battery degrades enough, eventually extended mode simply doesn't actually do anything anymore, and the car will always charge to 100%.
@lamnews3273

According to the manual, it wi hurt the battery to charge i on extended mode often.

According to the RAV4 EV diagnostic program, the BMS is reporting a max of ~37.3kWh of usable capacity, which is 89.2% of the car's original capacity when new.

So was it was able to get 132 miles after 10 years?
@QCCHARGE
@QCCHARGE 2 года назад
132 was the "guess-o-meter's" estimate after being reset. When it's reset, it defaults to a pre-determined efficiency value (~3.52mi/kWh) to calculate "range". In the real world, the usable range would be closer to ~100-120mi depending on driving conditions. Under perfect conditions though, 130+ could be achieved if starting full, and driving until the car runs out of power. From the factory, the RAV4 EV had a usable battery capacity of 41.8kWh. If we work backwards from the values we got from our test, we can estimate that the car now has ~37.5kWh of capacity. (132mi / 3.52mi/kWh = ~37.5kWh) According to our RAV4 EV diagnostic program, the BMS is reporting that the car actually has 37.3kWh usable, so the "guess-o-meter reset procedure" yields pretty accurate results if performed properly.

If the rav battery ever break down is it replaceable with aftermarket ones? Around how much would be that cost?
