This might be because most people barely have him on the radar. For some reason, even most channels dedicated to Wh40k lore rarely seem to talk about him, which is sad, because he is such an interesting character. If you ask me, far mor interesting and complex than fan favourites like Rogal Dorn, not that I want to belittle him. Damn, I am a Wh40k fan and lore nerd for ages now and even I did not appreciate Corax as I should have, until watching The Amber King's excellent 1.25 h long video about him. I think (hope) it's okay to mention this channel here, his introduction videos about the Primarchs are quite something and I would suggest watching them to everyone who is interested in the lore.
@@Furzkampfbomber Mostly because he vanished after book 18 of the Horus Heresy, Who else fought against The entire World eaters legion with help from 3 other traitor legions.. with no ships, no air support, no tanks, no Mechnicus or auxilia.... With 3000 Ravengaurd only For 100 days Corax and thr Ravengaurd were absolutely monstrous
There have been sayings that the Raven Guard are a dishonorable Legion compared to the others for their usage of stealth and surgical strikes to win any battle, but it is because of these tactics that allow them to achieve victories from impossible odds.
Who cares about honor when it comes to protecting lives and standing up for liberty? Those defeated by guerilla tactics label them cowardly because they're mad they lost. It's like people that play fighting games then scream how "unfair" their opponents tactics are when they lose.
@@spartanx9293you can argue that when facing odds against you it’s the best way to do it is ensure that you’re cutting their troops down as you keep as many of you alive to keep it going all the time
Corax and the Ravenguard certainly deserve more praise. They are all about doing their job not caring about the Emperor’s attention and being in the spotlight (literally they don’t want that). For all they’ve been through and still being loyalists and staunch defenders, goes to show how well they emulate the stoicism and tactical prowess of their Primarch
How do you feel about the raven being more warp entity like now? I always like the raven guard, I prefer the space sharks and the exorcists a bit more but hands down a chapter I feel pull at my heart. The fact they dropped the raptor space marine plot line for these new super space marines will always make me face palm but to keep lore well made would have required Matt ward and gw to be competent.
The term for Ravenguard tactics are "Force Multipliers". They are small in number but have a disproportionately large effect in comparison to other larger forces.
Thank you for this video. I love the Raven Guard and Primarch Corax. I've just finished his Horus heresy books. Ya can't beat an assassin who can go invisible and move in silence while wearing a ton of power armor. Keep it Remembrancer.
The primaris really saved the genetic stability of every chapter but especially those that had severe issues like the raven guard. What it most be like to recruit easily and now have all organs functioning at 100%.
They must be a pain to work with on a day-by-day basis and organizing joint operations must involve a lot of patience and just shrugging "Sir they are doing stuff, we just don't know what until something blows up. Yes Sir we have tried to contact them over the Vox but all we get back is.....wind?"
The Raven Guard was my first introduction to 40k and to quote Rose from Brooklyn Nine -Nine to sum up how I feel about about them ''I've known Corvas and the Raven Guard for a day and a half, but if anything were to happen to them I would kill everyone and then myself.''
Ravenguard raptor explaining how he stealths: you'd be surprised how few people look directly up and along with the lasbolts and artillery, few enemies will ever hear you coming.
Raven Guard Land Raider crew explaining how they stealth: First, our detachment is off the roster and the Force Commander will neither confirm or deny we exist, so they know he has tanks but not HOW MANY tanks and that gives us initial time to do our thing. Second, they won't know we're here if we don't leave witnesses
Raven Guard. The Masters of Stealth and Sabotage. The closest the Space Marines get to real-life Special Operations save for perhaps the Alpha Legion. I've always had a love for these guys simply because of their stealthy, underhanded tactics. To be able to sneak around in what is noisy, bulky power armor is no mean feat, something that only they seem to have mastered. They know how to be smart, silent, and maneuverable. If it weren't for the series of incredibly misfortunes they constantly suffer, I think they would've been the most effective Legion. They are certainly good enough to tango with the Tau, no small feat considering the xenos' advanced weapons and tactics.
@@MyHentaiGirl both are on the same coin but different sides, both deal with sabotage and intrigue however the ravens focus on assassination and quiet assault compared to the alpha legion sabotage of infiltrating with facial surgery and mischief without being noticed
If i HAD to be an Astartes, id probably pick Ultramarine, because theyre the most stable genetically. But the Raven Guard aesthetic and methods are the ones I relate to best. Screw the medals and ribbons, just matte black, please.
Yes, the Raven Guard and their Crow Daddy definitely deserve more love. Corvus Corax turning into a ''good'' Warp Demon or whatever and kicking the crap outta Lorgar ( who is a frikin' Demon Prince of Chaos Undivided!), so hard that Lorgar is hiding in fear in the Warp, is just badass af. Imagine, if Corax returns into real space and joins Guilliman!
Since other commenters here have already suggested other Wh40k channels, I hope it is okay to mention one as well? Because The Amber King has an excellent. long video that introduces Corvus Corax. I am a Wh40k fan and lore nerd for a long time now and even I never appreciated Corax as I should have until watching this video. He is such an interesting and complex character, much more interesting and complex than fan favourites like Rogal Dorn, for instance. Not that I want to belittle Dorn, to make that clear. For some reason, people rarely have Corax on the radar, since for whatever reason, GW as well as many channels dedicated to Wh40k lore treat him as an orphan and barely mention him.
One of thr unfortunate reasons is.. We heard NOTHING about Corax 5 months after Isstvaan. He got a book, Geneseed, etc... then gone for the rest of the Heresy, got seriously mistreated
@@-Ravenscroft- Maybe that's what really happened to the lost Primarchs/Legions? Maybe they never really vanished, but just are even sneakier than the XIX.?
Sooo good, and really got me excited about the Dark Angels because yeah pride is a problem for many marines but for Dark Angels, and to some extent their Primarch, it really is a defining feature.
Highly underrated and underutilized in the lore, my Horus Hersey legion of choice and second favorite in the 40k setting just behind the Black Templars in my book
I dislike the notion that the ravenguard are "emos"; but it's basically saying that batman is emo. Sure they've got the fitting hair, but their aesthetic is purely to their advantage
I find it funny when legions are mocked/punished for doing exactly what they were made for. Raven guard-stealth, night lords-fear/keeping order, world eaters-savagery, thousand sons-psykers
Wow, what an amazing breakdown. I'm new to Warhammer 40K lore and was looking for a legion to follow. The Raven Guard is very interesting. Thank you so much for helping me broaden my Warhammer 40k knowledge.
I feel like they have always been one of the least popular of the loyalist founding legions (everyone loves darks angels and space Wolves, and then blood angels, imperial fists and Ultramarines, even white scars and salamanders I think are more popular. And of course iron hands have been popular more recently due to them being strong competitively. But ravenguard always have been and always will be my favourite.
@@danielward-smith9466 Yeah, I'm really digging the Raven Guard. I've always had a thing for stealthy characters which goes back to Metal Gear, Siphon Filter, and Splinter Cell. The abilities of the Raven Guard just sounds so cool and their history is also damn tragic which gives the legion so much character I think. I have been hearing a lot about the Dark Angels with all the talk about Lion elJonson that's been blowing up in several Warhammer 40k videos. I haven't looked into playing the games so I have no idea how effective the Raven Guard is in that regard. But as someone who has fallen in love with the lore, they are very cool.
I bet ravenguards that can't do the whole wraith slip thing just use the "fog of war" for stealth. If you were a hulking power armored man that could sprint at 55mph and pull off trickshots while jumping and sliding, wouldn't you? Imagine you're a chaos warband fighting the imperial guard and then suddenly a bunch of drop pods pop up and half the ravenguards just start bunnyhopping and pulling off 360 noscopes while the other half find cover snipe your warband, they'd seem like ninjas.
Now that I know the lore about the Raven Guard, it makes me feel even more happy that I picked their colors to represent my classes in Space Marine 2. For the Emperor!
There was also a side story about a raven guard astartes that was having a slight mutation on his body ( gene seed Minor body rejection)......it turn out that he was an adult guardsmen soldier before accepting the offer to be a raven guards space marine from their apothecaries...... either than that i don't know much about this particular story...🤔🤔🤔
Amazing video that has made me question adding all the pouches that come with primaris space marines to my raven guard as they keep their armour clean.
That's how I would fight,it's seems foolish to throw everything you have at the front,it's wise to conserve your numbers and go around at angles and striking with speed, accuracy and power⚔️🛡️
It's crazy I seem to think that each one of these might be my favorite one I kind of agree down there or up there wherever the shuffle puts us nonetheless the pain of remembrance is upon us we shall not forget
The primarch so chad, he figured out he was a minor abstract concept ffs. Also, does youtube have a grudge against you stronger than fantasy dwarves because this error in the video thing is starting to feel like the website is intentionally hurting you, which I don't like because you are awesome Andy.
The XIX legion the raven guard and there primarch corvus corax are my favorite loyalist space marine legion and also there successors chapters the raptors, the carcharodons and the death spectres. I just love this legion because of there movable flexibility, stealth abilities, reconnaissance assassination and guerrilla warfare like tactics. As well there looks too. May the emperor's Light shine down you o'great remembrancer Victorus Aut Mortis (Victory or Death) 🖤☠
I don't meant to disrespect other legion but Raven Guard and Alpha Legion in my opinion are the only 2 legion waging war with strategy and tactic instead charging zealously.
Great video. Love me some Raven Guard. Just read the book where Corax becomes a shadow raven demon and he lays waste to some Word Bearers and chases demon prince/primarch Lorgar into tower to where he resides to this day.
Would be crazy if that all this time the ravenguard are a MASSIVE legion of Astartes. With all this time they’ve been very successful in their recruitment, but given a false record of their numbers. Their true aspirants just blending into the population through their innate gifts. The entire time growing and growing in number, just waiting until the day their primarc returns and gather them, now legion strong to take up against Abbadon’s last battle!!
The Raven Guard are lethal strike forces whom without their "dishonorable" tactics, the Imperium would have been crushed long ago. Call it nasty if you wish. Do not call it ineffective.
Holy Emperor! You once again do your name justice, Remembrancer! May his holy light shine upon thee and may your service to his Imperium last long! The Emperor protects!
I play the loyalist successor chapter the Knights of the Raven. My theory and backstory is that they were formed from a very select group after the Heresy, that of the few remaining Terran born loyalist Ravenguard who lived through the attack on gate 41, the dropsite massacre, and the subsequent scattering of the Legion, and who weren't members of the warrior lodges. This group I figure may have been slighty less than 1000 warriors, and was gladly hived off as a separate chapter, due to their differences with their primogenitor. The Knights eschew stealth, and instead wear brightly polished silver battle plate and crusader pattern helms. They are brutally pragmatic and favour orbital drop assaults.
This haaaas to confirm they are the parent chapter to the carcharodons their body mutation and the curse they both share in which it does the almost exact same thing is more then confirmation....love my space sharks
Something i still dont understand is why Corax decided to hunt down Lorgar over the alpha legion as a whole, knowing that it was the alpha legion the one that dealt the most devastading blow to the Raven Guard.
4:45 Emps talked to Corax peacefully like a man and let him solve his business first, unlike some peoples favorite red boy. The heresy was completely his decision to let happen
VICTORY IS VENGEANCE!!! I loved Sixx but damn his death was written so well, falling back to the lab and asking for orders only for his superior to kill him as the enigmatic alpha legion operative only known as Exodus had taken Sixx’s commanders identity
Does anyone know of where the whole quote for this and where it comes from: "To take a village send a battle brother. To take a city send a squad. To take a planet send a company. To go to war, send the chapter." I've been searching where this quote comes from, but I've been having no luck where to find it or the video I've seen it in before. If anyone knows where it's from, I will very much appreciate it.
