My dad was born here in 1921. I was raised here the first 4 years of my life before dad sold the farm and we moved to Louisville.

It’s a tight knit community up there.

In 1820, my x3 great grandparents Henry Noland, born in North Carolina, Father Ledstone ( Revolutionary War Vet) ( ) and wife Charlotte Hulen were pioneers there in Ravenna. ThEy are in the 1820 US Federal Census. They were married 6 Feb 1811, their child James Simpson Noland was born there in 1815. They removed to Jackson County MO by 1824, were in Holt and Jackson County until no later than April, 1852,and likely a year or two earlier, left for the Willamette Valley of Oregon, settling first in Hillsboro ( Henry, with son Henry) while son James went to near Glide Oregon. They were not afraid to move back then

This is the home of my whole ancestry since the early 1800's my people have been in Estill and Lee county for a long time. My father's side is from there the Jones line Tipton Barnes Ashcraft Hamilton line also. They came from and lived in Scott Co. Va. and Lee County also they went to Estill and Lee County but also Perry were they lived. Growing up my father took me there and showed me were he grew up with 16 brothers and sisters and 4 half brothers. He used to show and tell me of his first job at age 10 and then his job on the railroad in the coal yard were he saw a boy like himself die and he quit the job and left there and went north to Chicago and made a new life there. The stories that they told were great to listen too and fun but a lot more were sad, but they all ways said there will be better days. I still have a lot of kin there all over from Tipton Ridge to Barnes Mountain into Lee Co, and many will remain there and a lot of good times I spent there on the river and around town.

That’s a proud group of people in that area. Good people too.
