Lamar’s last playoff game was a whole 3 years ago. Now he’s clearly a much better player with better weapons and a better defense. I think he would’ve been destroyed the narrative about him being bad in the playoffs if he didn’t get injured the last 2 seasons.

That's what I'm hoping for too. As a Chiefs fan, I won't even be mad if the Ravens win that matchup. Lamar has played out of his mind this season. Not perfect by any means, but his style has evolved so much for the better under Monken and with better receivers. He looks calm and poised in the pocket and can absolutely sling it, even if his accuracy sometimes needs work (though a lot of those times the misses can be due to miscommunication), but he still runs like in his rookie season and it's clear that his injuries haven't slowed him down. He deserves to get a ring this year.

Context: No excuses, just context. - 1st Loss: Rookie who just started in Week 12, not great yet as a passer - 2nd Loss: Got almost 600 total yard and fell behind early with an OC who doesn't know how to scheme passes. - 3rd Loss: Injured in the 3rd quarter of a bad weather game. He has not been good, but he's not as terrible as people are making it.

To be fair, lamar has improved dramatically as a passer, has gotten a significant playcalling and scheme upgrade, and a much better arsenal of weapons since the last time he played in the playoffs. I HIGHLY doubt he plays bad and the ravens lose this game. If he does win and play well he will cement himself as the clear second best qb in the nfl. There wouldnt be anything else to prove but getting a ring.

@@Laurboy97 MVPs are regular-season awards. They don't mean that much outside their usefulness in building a Hall of Fame career. For example, Peyton Manning has 5 NFL MVPs, but he wasn't always great in the playoffs, which hurt his status slightly. Playoff performance and winning are the things that most determine who the best QBs are, whether that's fair or not. If Lamar doesn't win this game, it hurts his stock significantly. And even if he wins but fails to win the Super Bowl before Allen, some people will consider Allen better when it counts.

@@AskMeWhyFDI It's a regular-season award. It's a significant accomplishment, but it doesn't actually mean you are the best QB when it matters. For example, Dak Prescott was in the running this year because of his inflated stats, but he's never been a great QB when it matters. You could win 5-6 of these MVP awards, and you'll surely make the Hall of Fame, but you'll never be considered the greatest unless you win Super Bowls. Peyton Manning has 5 regular season MVPs and has won two Super Bowls, but he's still not considered the best ever. You have to win more than anything else. The MVP is just nice to have, but winning is a must-have.

Few things are more comforting to Ravens fans than Nick Wright picking against them. Hilariously, he recently had a talk with Cowherd where he was praising him for the ability to change his views based on new information. Not so for good old Nick though! He's been picking against Ravens and Lamar specifically from before this season even started, and will hopefully continue to do so right until they win the Super Bowl. (And probably after that point, as well!)

And last time I checked, both Houston and GB balled with a rookie and a first time starter this season. Not to mention the youngest roster in the NFL for the latter. Players make plays and of course who is around you matters. But if you’re “the” guy, you still play well but may lose. And Lamar has stunk in the early part of his career in the playoffs.

also additionally. lamar is someone who hasn't been like absolutely MELTING DOWN IN THE PLAYOFFS, where its clearly a psychological thing, or even an instance of he gets exposed in the playoffs because something about his game doesn't translate to the postseason, like no, he's just been not as great as he usually is. which is a fair thing to ding him for, but the fact is that he was incredibly young when he had those playoff games! it's not like we're coming off of the last couple years of him shitting the bed in the playoffs. nick's comments would be okay if he was strictly referring to maybe having some level of uncertainty, but to already act like he's some kind of choker that you trust a guy that has played one playoff game (even though it was amazing) over LAMAR MF JACKSON is disrespectful. he's been disrespecting him and the ravens all year, saying they weren't gonna make the PLAYOFFS, and then as they came into contention for the 1 seed, he was like yeah but the schedule is hard and i don't think they have what it takes, they then beat EVERYONE during this stretch of hard games, and it's like yeah but the playoffs. it's unfair because he doesn't do this with joel embiid, who is FAR worse in the playoffs, or with giannis before he won his title (and i think lamar and giannis is a good cross-sport comparison). like it doesn't make sense to me.

There is no question that a massive amount of pressure is on Lamar. And now that he actually had a decent passing scheme and decent WRs, he will handle that pressure the same way he’s handled every other question or issue this season, with dominance.

Niners fan here. The Lamar doubting is fair, but the context matters. The times when he struggled in the postseason, his supporting cast (particularly the defense) wasn't as good as they are now, even in 2019. This year, the ravens D is awesome, by DVOA it's the best defense the league has seen in several years. The defense alone will limit the opposition to 20 points at most. On offense, he's got a solid Oline, and with his new OC he's clearly gotten better at passing. As a niners fan, I'd know how much Greg Roman sucks, he was there during the Harbaugh years and the offense at its best was still inconsistent. Yeah he lacks offensive weapons outside of mark andrews (who is hurt) and they had cluster injuries at RB, but I have a feeling someone like Zay Flowers or OBJ will step up. And this is really their only "weakness" on the team. The only thing stopping the ravens from steamrolling everyone in this playoffs is themselves. They did have a tendency to let up in the 4th quarter for whatever reason. But I'm pretty sure they'll buckle down because this is the playoffs.

Doubting Lamar is one thing, saying he trusts CJ more than Lamar is just BS. Lamar beat CJ head to head, CJ has never been to the playoffs, CJ has zero playoff wins, no MVP's and the Ravens have the best record in the entire NFL. Now upon what rational basis would he trust CJ over Lamar? There is none. That's why he's full of BS.

The only thing is, the colts should’ve won that game against the Texans. Steichen coached a win and if it wasn’t for a huge drop, they would’ve been in great position to win. If the colts were in the exact same position as the Texans right now, no one would give them a shot in this game. So why would I expect the Texans to win here if they were essentially outplayed by the colts

it's the same stuff he did with jokic. everyone could tell that jokic was an elite player (maybe not consensus bitw, but still) that would perform well in the playoffs once he got a squad, and also wasn't as bad in his losses as nick made it seem. and yet even when jokic finally did it, he was like yeah well i needed to see it to believe it. like, no player of this caliber is just incapable of performing well in the playoffs, the closest equivalent i guess would be karl malone or james harden in the playoffs? but even they were not ever a top-2 player in the world, which i think lamar has a very strong argument for right now (mahomes is 1 imo)

At what point have the Ravens EVER been a big favorite? No One in the Press believes in them. They just won the game against the Texans that no one believes they would win. They are still performing at the high level that they have been performing all during the 2023 season and y'all are still talking about them like they're rookies. It is the most disrespectful thing I've ever heard. Y'all talk about no other team like this. If this was Patrick Mahomes who had played the same exact game in that same exact way there is no way you would be talking like this. No the Ravens are underdogs. All this analysis is all well and good. He’s the reason why they are the number one seed. He’s the reason why they’re not playing a wildcard along with a defense that didn’t lose a 20 point lead to Miami like they did last year - he wants to win just like everybody else does. I’m sure he wants to play well his teammates want him to play well the whole defense doesn’t want to give up 200 yards to to a running back or lose a game to where Ryan Tannehill through 14 passes he also doesn’t want guys dropping passes like they did in the Titans game or Harbaugh not kicking field goals when he should have this is a team game. This is Giannis this is Joker this is LeBron. This is Dirk. This is typical when you are a star you don’t have pressure when you’re a bum you don’t have pressure when your Blake Bortles or Joey Harrington, because nobody remembers that you played in the NFL there’s pressure because you’re elite and when you’re an elite player you wanna play well and I expect him to. There are 32 NFL teams - 24 are at home spectators and watching - play well be confident go flock 🐦‍⬛

If Texans win then CJ is MVP. Rookie year, Rookie head coach, Thriving in a rebuilding organization, building appeal for free agents to want to come next season and seasons to come. Not to mention he beat the current MVP frontrunner. But he's doing what Joe and Baker did for the browns and Bengals. His play, confidence, and of course current success are making the Texans a very attractive and promising place to come and play. I don't think Texans fans were this confident in a QB even when Andre and Hop were there with Watson. CJ and the Texans haven't been talking or bragging about the season kinda like the lion were, they are humble and know that this is just the beginning so with that too I think his professionalism and leadership of the team at such a young age should count for something too.

As I said you are entitled to your opinion. I happen to think it's flawed and not based in fact. Lamar is already one of the greatest in NFL history before he wins a chip. He is about to win his first SB beating the defending champion KC Chief team to do it and someone will come up with something to explain why he should not be respected for his greatness. Lamar has embarrassed people who have doubted him since he was in high school. He has won the awrds that indicate he is the best at every level and I believe he will continue to do so accumulating all those individual awards that prove greatness along the way as he continues to tear through the NFL record books.

He's only 26yrs old & this is the first time he's got weapons & a OC coordinator that has FINALLY took advantage of all of Lamars skill set. Hard to count Lamar out given his young career even if the Texans somehow upset the Ravens. Lamars a winner & if he's the QB then I believe their will always be a chance for the Ravens to be successful.
