Keyscape sounds more intimate in my opinion. Ravenscroft sounds more dynamic and open. Both are good products.

Great video, thanks. While I listened to an extended play of the Ravenscroft a couple of days ago and was very impressed, hearing it next to Keyscape makes it sound thin and metallic, while the Keyscape sound full and rich. And yes, more intimate.

I have both and I must say that although I like the Keyscape C7 sounds, the samples are noisy. It sounds warmer and more rounded, natural feel to it compared to Ravenscroft which sounds more clinical and brighter. The 275, however, is very clean sounding without distracting noise, especially when you're playing many notes. The noise on the Keyscape gets worse the more notes you play, even with noise reduction at the highest level. It might not be as obvious in the RU-vid videos since the sound is so compressed. The Keyscape load-up takes forever - seriously. My machine is an 8-core 3GHz i7 with 32GB and 2TB SSD, and it still takes more than a minute to fully load everything up. Ravenscroft only takes a few seconds and makes it so much easier to use as a go-to piano when you want to noodle around. The other thing that is a problem is that the Keyscape is more prone to pops and clicks from dropouts. I'm using this with UAC-2, UR22mkII and Motif XF6 as outputs and it's the same all across - for any given setting, I get more pops with the Keyscape. That said, I wish Keyscape would address the issues because the warmer sound is really nice for jazz. The MKS-20 with Keyscape is great though - really really nice sound. One other thing I should say, the Keyscape samples have some artefacts on certain notes - like strings buzzing. It might be there in the C7 they sampled but it's distracting. Hope this helps someone.
@ArgoBeats
@ArgoBeats 6 лет назад
Keyscape C7 has an in-built De-Noise which works quite well.
@danweecc
@danweecc 6 лет назад
It does work but not good enough. Try playing several notes held together in the high registers. The noise is very obvious, even with noise reduction on. That's a real pity because the noise is cumulative - the more notes you press, the more the noise adds up.
@ArgoBeats
@ArgoBeats 6 лет назад
yes, that's not perfect... to be honest, I'm still looking for the perfect virtual piano, I don't quite like the bell-like sound of Keyscape mid-high register and neither the mid register of Ravenscroft. To me the perfect piano is the one which sounds fairly thin when you play single notes, so then when you play chords they are full and clean, I've found the NI Grandeur being quite close to this idea but, still, it sounds too "woody" in the mid register... I've heard great things about the Galaxy Instruments Vintage D, but I didn't try that.
@danweecc
@danweecc 6 лет назад
I suppose "perfect" is inevitably subjective at the end of the day. I personally prefer something a little warmer than Ravenscroft. Then again, if you go play a new Shigeru Kawai or a Yamaha C3, you'll often find that it is also quite bright. Older pianos sound warmer. I think this becomes more an issue of getting used to things.
@ArgoBeats

Agree, Daniel... piano sonorities and timbres are very subjective
@keyboardtek

I can tweak Ravenscroft to sound like any piano I need. Try playing with the timbre shift and tone control and you can make it sound like any piano, limit the dynamic range and you can get a nice compressed piano with the tenor range that has punch.

Keyscape is very warm and rich, the only thing i hate about it is that the release samples are non-existent! Try to do a staccato on the lower register and stop, the sounds chokes in a very unnatural way. The only workaround i found is turn the reverb up so those sudden stops sound more natural...

Personally I have Keyscape. I find the whole deal much better and Keyscape's true strength is in its electromechanical instruments, sadly only 1 Grand but still worth it seeing what you are getting for the price. Both VSTs are great, slightly different, it's like discussing which is better a fender strat or a fender tele nobody cares haha they are both good variations of the same instrument.

Ravenscroft has more mids and mid highs in this vid while Keyscape feels like its missing that a little bit and the highs sound a bit shrill in the upper register of the piano. Both are good over all, and overall sound of each really depends on the player and even the digital piano used in my opinion.

Thank you for your videos. I watch all your stuff. It's usually too advanced for me, but I hope I can play on your level one day. I am the keys player at my church. I currently just use a stock sound in my Roland. But I'm wanting to purchase Keyscape. Do I need to run Keyscape as a stand alone program, or should I run it within Mainstage? Any help is appreciated.

@TORTYRUCKELSDADDY10 3 года назад
@@Persun_McPersonson There's a certain onset of the sound that gives it away. It sounds like a splat to meet. A lack of nuance that the hammer hitting the key brings. Sorry I can't explain it better than that.

I see a lot of comparison videos out there and there aren't a great deal of them (or any that I could find) that compare just the 'Ravenscroft 275' to Native Instruments 'The Grandeur' head to head...I am curious as to why? Hopefully someone will do a good comparison/shootout/battle between just the two of them!

I’m a bit biased because I own the plug-in: Ravenscroft 275. Clean, bright and maybe somewhat artificial but I like the sound of it. I must admit that the Keyscape sounds very true to life, almost acoustic.

Hi...i'd like to ask you a few questions about this software if possible. Here you have them:1) is this app avaiable for windows/pc alone cause i dont have any ipad and im not planning to purchase one? 2) once installed where does the sound come from? from the piano's speakers or the pc's speakers? 3) if i want to record a piano piece in MIDI file, how in the world can i transform it in an acoustic piano sound from this software? 4) ive read that theres is an almost a 50% discount on some day of the year. Whic day is that one?thanks in advance

It's on PC. The sound comes through the pc speakers (usually the audio speaker running through your audio interface). It needs a chunky CPU and ideally an ssd and is 72 gigs total size. I believe it's on 20% sale atm.

I wonder how come people never compare Ravenscroft to Vienna Imperial? A lot people seem to believe that Ravenscroft was the first to ever come close to the truest sound of a piano. But in all honestly if anyone has ever played an Bosie Imperial 290 you know that Vienna Imperial nailed it! Don't get me wrong. Ravenscroft is AWESOME! And I do know that $550 for Vienna Imperial is out of most people's price range. But it sounds like a real piano as well. Rapid key releases in Vienna Imperial is absolutely amazing. If you don't have the cash go to open your DAW software and go to bestservice.com and try it out for free. Where Ravenscroft really excels over Vienna Imperial is that it is packed with a few more features/settings. But in terms of authentic sound quality Vienna Imperial does not disappoint either. And I'm not going to lie. For the price point Ravenscroft is the deal.

I don't think this is a good comparison in between this two softwares. The Keyscape has only a Yamaha C7, and where that virtual piano in real life has it own sound, much different then Steinway piano , or even Baldwin. Would be even if you were comparing the same brand of piano ,but in different VST , then we can compare which one is better , that will be the result of technic used when sampled sound from developer to developer of software. You comparing apples and pineapples. I don't mind to pay a lot of money for only one software as long as is closer from a real piano , regardless of the brand of piano sampled.

Bravo ! You just pointed the main issue on almost All of the youtube video comparing piano sound libraries ! they all do the same mistake ! I wrote the same comment yesterday on an another channel. Ii don't understand why nobody out there understood this ! maybe because doing comparaison bring usually lot of views ? no idea.. The amount of issue i see in each of these videos is always the same, there are many of them, the "comparaison of different brand / model" is just one of a long list. but still love to read the comments of people on these videos lol, "ah no this one is better" ahah, come on...
