Lots of people think small dogs can't handle whole raw bones, they couldn't be more wrong. This is my top 5 favorite bones for small dogs. :)

I go with the rule of thumb of small pray for small pets. Duck, rabbits, chicken, turkey, quail and so on.

Like your videos. I'm a veteran 10 year raw-feeder. Four dogs, one of which I call my "pretend" dog (I dearly love her). She weighs 12 lbs. (5.5 kg). I got her as an (about) 2 year old rescue and she has bad teeth. She is a "gulper" and will try to swallow large pieces of non-bone meat to the point of distress. I have to be careful by feeding her smaller bits of meat. In the eight years I've had her she never tries to "gulp" bone. I supervise every meal and make observations. As for bone ... she gets turkey and chicken wing tips; sometimes small chicken "flats". Turkey and chicken necks and chicken backs/ribs. She also gets the remaining portions of chicken breasts that I de-bone for human consumption. She seems to handle pork side rib, gristle portions. Thanks for your posting. Hope this helps. Cheers.

I have a 14 pound, miniature poodle. He is on the spindly side. He is 3 years old and has had to have his teeth vet cleaned each year despite the fact that he eats mainly raw/freeze dried raw and fresh cooked (so very low carb and no grain) despite the fact that I brush his teeth daily. He builds plaque faster than any small dog I have ever had so I decided that bones have to be part of his weekly diet. I started with chicken necks and was amazed at how, after only one week, his back teeth were cleaner. I can get bags of chicken and duck necks at my local, raw focused pet food store and he does very well with these sizes. On average, he gets one duck neck a week or several chicken necks-- I cut off the head end in the hopes of removing the thyroid tissue (Please comment on whether or not that makes sense). I also give chicken wings. I can't find chicken frames/backs in my area. I can find chicken feet at the regular grocery story sometimes and stock up. Can't find duck feet. Don't know how to source good quality, raw rabbit. I only feed him human grade foods. Anyway, small dogs need the dental benefits most of all but are very limited in the diameter of bones that will not break the teeth. Any advice about sourcing is appreciated. Love your channel.

I have not given my dogs raw bones yet but I so appreciate your video. I am going to get some wings next time I go to the store to try them. I'm sure they will love them! Again thanks so much for the information.

I was giving my 12 week old mini goldendoodle raw chicken wings and she was doing great for about two weeks and then ended up at the vet with a small sliver that she could not pass. They had to sedate her go up and remove it from her recum Thankfully it did not cause any permanent damage. I’m so disappointed because I really would like for her to be able to have raw bones.

She can! Just get a grinder or buy premade ground foods. Don’t give up on raw!!

I have a 5.5 lb Chihuahua. She is 14.5 years old. She has never had raw meat or raw bone. She has liver disease for the last few years and was recently diagnosed with kidney disease.. Is she too old to start eating raw meat and chewing raw bones? Is this safe for her to eat/chew raw meat/bone when she has liver and kidney disease? It is my understanding that she has these diseases because she's been eating prescription dry dog food for many years. I also read that she could have these diseases because of gum disease which comes from dry dog food. Please help I don't know what to do but I do know what I've been doing is not working. I almost lost her about 2 weeks ago due to an infection. Her liver enzymes were skyrocket.

I would set up a call with veterinarian Dr. Laurie Coger at healthydogworkshop.com

@@RawFeeding101 There is a video over 2 hours on that site of the dangers of dry kibble, the negative misleading information about raw food and exposing the FDA. It is absolutely disgusting to know that these so-called trusted authorities are collaborating with these Pet Food Industries to make a profit at the expense of our beloved pets. I'm not able to get in contact with Vet. Laurie Coger. She states that she is legally not allowed to give any medical advice unless she has seen your pet in person in the last 12 months. That will not be possible I live in Ontario Canada. Thank you for the link that you provided. I found a lot of great information from it. It just confirmed everything that I've been recently reading and learning. Clearly I have much more research to do.

I’ve always heard it’s dangerous to give them poultry bones. Is this only when they’re cooked? I’m confused. I’m seeing a bunch of videos about feeding dogs raw diets and bones all of the sudden. I have a 20lb American Eskimo dog. Can I give him the bones you mentioned safely?
@RawFeeding101
@RawFeeding101 5 лет назад
Yes small dogs should have small bones like chicken wings and necks. Yes it is the cooked bones that are dangerous.

Cut off the top inch or two of a duck neck and the top few centimeters of a chicken neck to hopefully remove the thyroid. Isn't this the solution to not over-feeding thyroid tissue? Necks are one of the few bone types my 14 pound dog can handle. The necks do a much better job cleaning the teeth than the wings.
