Amazingly, he blames everyone else. For years, he was happy to spend the money from the 8 Passengers videos and was complicit with all the emotional cruelty shown. In one video, THEY denied the youngest two children, later to be outright tortured, presents at Christmas, but made sure to have them sit for the filming, while the other children opened presents. By all accounts, he appears to have been a reprehensible father.

When folks in the comments ask: With which statute should he be charged? The fact that narcissistic abuse constantly gets a free pass in the courts proves how broken family court is. These children's psychological scars don't just go away, and the law needs to take this type of abuse seriously. The amount of addicts in America, much of thee addiction starts with childhood trauma. It appears that the American gov is only superficially concerned with justice, as pharmaceutical companies make billions off mood stabilizers. Hence why Kevin is given a platform to spew his manipulation & deflection.

If his notoriety be it good or bad, helps to change laws so children are safer, then he deserves positive feedback for that, and public support for the cause. Should be be in jail? YES. I mean nobody else has been trying to change the laws, in that sense huge numbers of of Utah citizens and the Mormon church are complicit and should be accountable.

@@briarrose81It wasn’t out of his control. The man walked away. He left and stayed gone for over a year without hearing, speaking to, or seeing his children. He sought out no proof of life to make sure his kids were safe and being taken care of. There was no legal reason keeping him from his children. He could have bare minimum called the police and asked for a welfare check on his 4 underage kids to make sure they were alive and well. Mind you he could have contacted his oldest 2 kids who were already legal adults but once again he did nothing. No he didn’t physically torture the youngest 2 kids but his chosen absence played a pivotal part. He is partly responsible for the lack of care of his children in all of this.

He omits the fact that the LDS church insisted that church members, seeking therapy, should only be referred to therapists who were members. Every month, Jodi Hildebrand sent invoices to the church for payment. Kevin encouraged Ruby to keep her Utube channel, because it paid for their upmarket house, lifestyle and trips. Kevin should also be in jail. He was just as bad as Ruby.

He's culpable. The kids can choose freely when they are of age. No amount of therapy prior to that would make them emotionally/mentally/spiritually SAFE in Kevin Franke's home. I watched 8 Passengers. Ruby and Kevin went over the line of abuse and certainly raised my alarm watching it. He should not have custody. He should be charged for abandonment. Let the court hear all the evidence. He can take his chances pinning it all on Jodi having total control of him. I don't buy it. Reform is needed. However, he's shifting blame and responsibility. I pray for the children.

Keep this in mind when pleading with the state for a resolution to problems related to religious extremism. Will Mr. Franke be speaking with his faith leaders?

Kevin thanks for making it clear you are a victim of Jodi. Ruby is also only responsible because Jodi made her do it. Emotional abuse needs to be treated as and defined as a crime against children. Gosh it's super duper awesome that y'all have all the years before Jodi came along documented so everyone can see how your kids were treated. So Kevin how do we determine Emotional Abuse? Taking beds away? Unnecessary threats of taking xmas away...that would seem cruel if the parents were gleeful while their kids cried. More are there more examples? I'm sure the public knows of many more and give up the act everyone you know, knows you're waiting on Ruby! You never officially divorced and you are doing ONLY what's necessary to get the kids back because you're pissed the state is making you pay child support.

This coming from the man who was NEVER held accountable for his own actions in not stepping in and stopping the abuse BEFORE Jodie… Jodie did not make Ruby an abuser, she already was one! And Kevin did NOTHING! This man is no saint! Also, can Utah implement a law that states that religious zealots cannot discriminate against anti religious people and pass discrimination laws???? Because it seems that under a recent Utah law, public schools are no longer LEGALLY allowed to celebrate diversity… ALSO, while we’re at it, let’s make it illegal for parents to force, groom or otherwise their MINORS into baptism!

I didn’t even have a choice at 18! I am not against anyone being religious if they choose. I’m not even against raising your children religious. I completely agree. If anyone has gone to bat for the kids was Shari. HANDS DOWN. she is an amazing soul so I hope that she and kevin (unfortunately) can pose some change. Do I agree Kevin is to blame on some levels absolutely. However, the fact they are pushing for change for other kids to make sure this doesn’t happen again is brave.

I saw, a post on youtube a few weeks back where Chad had reached out to a family (I forget which social media plateform) to warn them about the dangers of exploiting their son and the narcesistic mother went for his throat, so to speak. Kevin saying, “We would not have listened to Jodi if we knew she was not a licensed therapist” reminds me of the Milgram experiment: In the 60s, a psychologist studied obedience to “authority” figures. Participants, believing they were part of an experiment about the learning process, were instructed to administer electric shocks to a "learner" (an actor) for each incorrect answer. Despite the learner's apparent pain, many participants continued to deliver shocks under the experimenter's orders because they were led to believe that it helped them learn a specific subject. (The shocks were fake, but the participants asked to deliver them were unaware) The results revealed a high level of obedience towards someone recognized as an authority figure. Participants acted against their moral beliefs just because someone they believed to be a licensed psychologist, doctor, or researcher told them to do it… Some people do the worst things and justify themselves with the “I was just following orders” excuse. We have seen it in history and keeps happening and its very worrying.

I don't believe his testimony relieves him of responsibility or accountability. My first case in CPS involved a six month old that was thrown against the wall like a baseball. Because CPS couldn't prove which parent did it, and the couple split, parental rights were restored to both; in spite of the fact that head injuries to child mimicked a five story fall. Like it or not- this is the mostly highly publicized child abuse case in Utah. There are gaps and even if you hate Kevin Franke - some of what he said IS true. His daughter requested welfare checks as well. I'm not claiming he is father of the year. But he can use his voice to make progress....if only for other children.
