Well I'm not a big fan of E-bikes but this one Totally changed my mind about them 👏. What Liked about this bike is the "power Assist" giving by the motor which makes Riding off road a lot easier + All the riding modes helps in Maintaining a longer life for the battery depending on what Mode you're using. But I really liked it 💖.

As someone who has an artificial leg and therefore has difficulty with the short steep climbs found offroad, this bike looks like it would be amazing. I'm pretty sure I still wouldn't beat Powers, but it would be a lot more fun and allow me to ride in areas that I find physically too frustrating right now.

I talked to an older man in his 70s and he said he was about to give up mountain biking because he couldn't keep up anymore and it was too taxing on his body. He bought an e-bike and now he can keep up with the groups have a lot of fun and not stress his body so much. E-bikes are amazing for older, disabled or simply unfit people. The tech just needs to come down in price, it still is too cost prohibitive for alot of people.

I'm also an amputee (AK right) and have had a e-mtb for the last 12 months (Focus Jam2). I now spend all my time on it and my poor old analogue road bike only gets ridden once a month or so now. Dav, you're totally right, the frustration of not being able to climb certain roads/tracks is gone, back to enjoying all my riding!

Personally, I think this IS the one e bike that covers all the ground, road, off road and commute. I am 62 and tool up e biking just over 2 years ago with a Cube Acid Hybrid..I am hooked. I have ridden well over 10,000 klms and climbed over 50,000 mtrs this year. Last Saturday, I rode over 100 miles around The North York Moors with nearly 3000 mtrs of climbing. I am now looking to upgrade to the ultimate e bike. This Canyon Grail ON is it...It beats the Specialized Creo E Gravel bike hands down. BUT we have to find a way of persuading the regulators that limiting motor support above 25 kmph is truly ridiculous when I can descend without pedalling at 90 kmph. If you want a keen older GCN supporter who rides an e bike to help you guys out with tests I am dead up for it. E cycling is NOT cheating, it's e nabling and I can make it as hard work or as relaxing as I like. Paul Moore on Strava where you can see what I have been doing. The Canyon Grail ON is the future for serious all round e cyclists...I wish I had one...

I don't drive and because of the dreaded virus I can't get a lift to work any more, its an hour and a half on the bus and half the people on there don't wear masks so I dug my old mountain bike out and decided to ride to work. Big mistake I'm in my 60s now and 20 kg heavier than I was 10 years ago its 12 miles to work with 850 ft of climbing so it took me just over an hour and I was knackered all day then had to ride back, and thats on a nice trek 8000 mtb so I bought a grand canyon hardtail emtb now its 40 min to work I can ride hard on the way home and in the last 3 weeks I've lost 1.5 kg ..the cheating remarks I've read here are not helpful to encouraging people like me getting back into cycling.

well said , you get so much abuse from the cling film clothes boys who's tight pants match the bike shouting that's its cheating ! and they never say hello or even see you , Denis you hit the nail on the head who cares as long as you are out and about there cant see the point of over killing yourself on a normal trying to kill you bike of any sorts ! when struggle up hills when you don't have to......now wait for the abuse to follow here....

Totally agree Denis. The more people on two wheels the better. If it means that I can spend an extra 10 years out on 2 wheels then it has to be a good thing. I'd encourage anybody who has not ridden an ebike to give it a go. It is a subsidised ride not a free one.

I have nothing against e-bikes at all, and the Grail was something that I was looking at for bike packing and for riding farm roads and paths in Bavaria, this Grail:ON is a game changer for this kind of thing and one that would be perfect for both intentions. Going to take a hard look at this in the coming weeks.

I got a Grail On: last week and rode it up into the mountains around Boulder, CO. IT WAS MIND BLOWING! After riding the Specialized Creo/Evo, its clear to me that the Grail On: is a superior bike because it has 1) a far better cockpit set-up, and 2) the power range is clearly better for gravel hands down. Best electric gravel bike on the market. Super fun, you’ll have a blast. From a 70 year old bike racer.

@StupidHandleGame 3 года назад
Thanks for posting your experience Mark. I am looking at the ON vs Creo. The Creo does have an extra battery option for 100 mile range. I do like the ON's more relaxed cockpit though. Can you tell me about the sound, how do they compare on motor noise?

I know lol. Specialized and Trek are ripping people off by convincing that underpowered ebikes are the best thing cause they can be disguised as a regular bike. I have a buddy in Denver that I have to wait on when bad weather happens if we are riding together cause he is on a stupid under powered Creo. I have 2 of the Grail:on's, one for my house in Colorado and the other for our Atlanta house.

My commute is only 14km there but has 160m of decent climbing. I do this 13 days in a row and then have two days off. I only work short hours whilst at work but i do walk a few kilometres. Here is what I have found at 40 years old. Pains will typically come in one leg only. These pains are usually in the form of extensor tendinitus at the feet or knee trouble. When the first symptoms present, I put more power through the opposite leg and spin more. I also cycle out of the saddle and keep cadence as high as possible. After a few days the pain typically goes away. If hills are too problematic, then spin an easy gear and push your leg down with one arm all the way up the hill. I don't know how much additional power this offers compared to an e-bike but it feels like an additional motor. Also, if you do suffer from foot issues then loosen up your cycling shoes. Works wonders... As for burning off smug ebike riders. This I'm afraid I cannot help doing. Especially when they give you that smug look. I'm usually dead by the end of it but the satisfaction I get when I look over my right shoulder (just the once) is worth all my pain and then some.

I love this video But I have a question that has nothing to do with this. I think using a dropper post on a road bike can definetly improve aerodynamics and improve speed and stability while descending. I ve used it on long descents in xc races, And could get ahead of the back with out even pedaling And it is safer than sitting on the frame Would be interesting to see an experiment.

The main question remains: how does it ride on even gravel roads or asphalt above 25 km/h compared to the normal Grail? How much more effort do you need to put in to keep it up to ~30 km/h with same tires.

@Noemi So bacically it helps on steep uphils only which are few on the road anyway. Makes sense on e-mtb though, but most ppl i know "unlock" them - wouldn't bother otherwise.
@dannulik
@dannulik 3 года назад
@Noemi Hmm. I think the 25km/h restriction is only for e-bikes that don't need assistance to ride. On classical e-bike (that help you when you paddle) you can easilly (and legally) do 50 kph.
@dannulik
@dannulik 3 года назад
@Noemi Yeah, you are right about the limit (and the cut off). I didn!t really looked into it and thought the they lifted the limit to 50kph assisted. But it turns out that the only e-bikes I have ridden had disabled limiter. So that's why I thought it was the limit.

@leefitzgerald3536
@leefitzgerald3536 3 года назад
@@TheRobinparsons Hi, I still have and use the Neo Lefty 3 regularly, yes it is weighty, but the only time that really hits home is when I'm lifting it over the threshold of my kitchen door, or pulling up the front end to get up a large kerb, on the roads it feels nimble despite its weight, and the low centre of gravity coupled with the weight make it feel super stable on some of the big hills I find myself speeding down here in South Wales....even with strong cross winds, it is a really fun bike to ride, it is well suited to much of the terrain here, if I was still living in relatively flat Surrey UK it's quite possible I may not have felt the need to purchase the bike, it is a real bonus being able to stay on the bike and 'pedal' up some of the steeper hills here as opposed to getting off and walking with my normal bikes.

@@TheRobinparsons You're most welcome, I'd say an E gravel bike such as the Neo Lefty is ideal for your situation. The suspension on the Neo lefty is subtle, and the front end can be easily 'tuned' to your requirements.

Hi Carlo, frankly I love my new Canyon Grail:ON bike and I'm really glad that I bought it. In order to keep fit, on mainly road riding, I have actually elected not to use the Bosch motor for about 95% of the ride time and only use it when I really need to i.e. going up steep hills, which is say 5% of the total ride time. There are four motor settings and the most I've ever needed is the second TOUR setting, which is more than enough to meet my needs and saves battery life. When using it like this, I can go out on quite a few rides of say 70km each, before even thinking about charging the battery up again. The bike feels very sturdy and weighs in at around 19kgs. Clearly the bike was very expensive, but to my mind, it was totally worth it! The only thing to consider seriously is who will maintain it for you, as there are no Canyon dealers even here in the UK?? Fortunately I can cope with most bike repairs, although if anything went wrong with the Bosch motor and gearbox, then I would probably have to send the bike back to Germany for repair. Just in case, I have kept the shipping box that it originally came in. Hope this is of some use, but please ask if you need anything else? Regards Paul

Carlo Crighton Hi again, I've just weighed my bike again to be certain and it comes in at 18kg, with the only extra being a seat post bag with two inner tubes in it. Hope this helps and regards from the UK :-)

@@funofflying15 If you're riding on mostly road/tarmac, I don't recommend this bike. I would get an Orbea gain or other e-road bikes that have the smaller less torquey rear hub motor and only goes to 20 mph. Perfect for road riding. The Grail-On is for gravel and hills.

for someone with a medical condition to the heart, this bike can bring back the good old days of cycling when I was still in good condition. For now I only use the manual/conventional bikes since budget does not allow for now. But if GCN will sponsor one, I will gladly accept 😁😁😁 #GCNFan

Hi! What about the 25 kmh speed limit in Europe? With a non electric gravel bike you can easily go over 25 kmh. When the support stops at 25, is it easy to go harder (without electric support of course)?

I was considering an e-gravel bike for commuting, since it´s about 50/50 asphalt and gravel, and i´m riding a cross country mountain bike right now. But the 25kmh speed limit is a deal breaker. It´s mostly flat terrain where i live, i can consistently hit 25kmh even without electric assist. The electric power would be useful on particularly windy days, but I´d have to derestrict it to see any other benefits.

Buy a Speed Pedelec, similar power but speed limit at 45kph (in practical terms you reach 30-35). In any EU those should be able to register.

How is it not the same workout if you ride to the same perceived exertion? That's like saying riding a 7kg bike with aero kit isn't the same workout as riding a mtb on road.

I've lost 30 lbs in 2 months riding my Specialized Creo. I work just as hard as on my Tarmac, I can just go farther, faster in the same amount of time and effort which opens up more routing options for me to explore. If I was riding the same loop on my Creo as on my Tarmac then yes I'd be getting much less exercise, but I want to ride more because I can see more, hit more climbs/descents, and it's more of a rush going 23mph through the countryside than 16-17mph

An audible humming noise that increases in the whine when going faster but, trust me, you won't notice it unless you like to ride on quiet rolling smooth roads all day.

I freakin love my Grail on. It handles the road and gravel roads with ease. Semi technical very well, a tad bumpy but its a damn Ferrari. Love everything about it except the charging port cover & dont much care for the odd handle bars. The chain stay protector sucks and it needs a real chain guide!
