Raw Run on Fowley's - Jasey-Jay Anderson 171cm TCX 16m

Fowley's Lap is a short blue run on the kids' chair but it has eight of the best turns on the mountain. Nine if you have enough speed for the long 360 carve on the bank at the end. Like all Revelstoke blues it has a black section (at the "slow" sign), my favourite part of course...
Board is designed and built by Olympic Champion Jasey-Jay Anderson: it's a custom TCX 171 with a 15m sidecut.
Bindings are Flow NX2 Fusion (note the makeshift third strap at the end of the video), 27 degrees front and 12 rear.
Boots are Driver X with custom stiffeners.
February 9th 2024, the best carving day of the season (so far).

I'm furious. Livid. Just got back from a snow trip, can't go again this year and now you're putting out the best carving content I've seen? I can't wait to get out and try all your drills but it's going to be 2025. Torture.

Could you make a quick video about the third strap and stiffeners? I've never heard of/seen those but they seem very interesting. Sweet carves btw.

So fantastic. Making it look simple. That might be my favorite 360 of yours too. Nice.

Sweet turns James! I've been playing with the "tray" drill you talk about....I can felt the difference asap! Shoulders level baby. P.S. so glad you've put your gear in the description. I've been wanting to know your thoughts on the flow bindings. No hoops!
@cherrycarves
@cherrycarves 6 месяцев назад
Right? I need six more sets of Flow bindings now so I don't have to mount them on a different board every night.

I too have been practicing the tray drill, it works. Really neat
@cherrycarves
@cherrycarves 6 месяцев назад
@borntobomb Ya it works! I didn't invent it though, I had a lesson on hardboots back in the 90's and it was part of the CASI curriculum back then. Not sure when they dropped the carving curriculum, I'm hoping to bring it back...

@@cherrycarves i do find it helps me fully commit to a steep while maintaining edge control (now my limit is who's in front of me, not whether Im fighting the fall line to keep edge control)

@@borntobomb Nice. Turns out snowboard carving isn't that hard to do, the hard part is finding someone to teach you how.

Hi James. Great runs. In my opinion the smoothness if your turns - this the most attractive thing in how you make your turns. Theylook easy and relaxed. Unlike those of many Japanese riders (carvers). The booster straps - do they go around the highback?
@vladimirorlov9721
@vladimirorlov9721 6 месяцев назад
Probably not, cause that would be unsafe. They are just additional stiffeners. Right?
@cherrycarves
@cherrycarves 6 месяцев назад
@@vladimirorlov9721 Easy and relaxed with power and style... That's how I dooze it! (I work very hard to make it look easy.) I was riding Flow bindings so the highbacks are locked, the booster strap just goes around the boot and highback, yes. Can't do that with most other bindings.
@vladimirorlov9721
@vladimirorlov9721 6 месяцев назад
James, the stiffeners - are they the plastic sheets placed between the soft boot and outer shell? I think I very seen those Japanese riders use. Tried to order from them but they didn't want to send abroad.
@cherrycarves
@cherrycarves 6 месяцев назад
@vladimirorlov9721 Ya. I'm working on bringing some in to North America. Gimme a few weeks. My own boot stiffeners are custom but these are good too.

Hi James, you have awesome technique. Could you tell us which edgle angles do you use for this kind of riding? base level and side edge angle. Thanks
@cherrycarves
@cherrycarves 6 месяцев назад
It doesn't really matter on the perfect corduroy we carve in Revelstoke... I'm at 0 base and 1 or 2 side, depending on the board.
@WyattBrown377
@WyattBrown377 6 месяцев назад
Looks great! With booster straps around the bindings and boot stiffeners too, why not go hard boots?
@cherrycarves
@cherrycarves 6 месяцев назад
So many reasons... You pointed to the main one yourself: it feels as great as it looks. That was the first time I tried the straps. I liked it.

Wow 16m, what is your preferred sidecut? I'm on a 9.5m and I thought was a pretty wide carve.
@cherrycarves
@cherrycarves 5 месяцев назад
Yeah, 16m is my preferred sidecut. But only on the best groomer days. It's too fast for chop and crud. 12m is a better all around radius for carving. 9.5 only seems big because the industry doesn't cater to hard carvers. Want a real deal carving board? Check out the new JJAs available for pre-order at carversconnection.com.

Sir, please tell me what angle and stance you have right now. Do you center both bindings or like, longer nose then tail ? Getting back at snowboarding / carving and trying out some stuff. Thank you
@cherrycarves
@cherrycarves 6 месяцев назад
I generally mount my bindings in the forward most inserts. 27/12 degrees positive, 56cm stance width. I centre the bindings (with the boot in it) to get the same distance between the boot/binding and each edge. I often have to turn the disk 90 degrees to do that. If there's room, I'll offset to toeside a notch or two because heelside boot out tends to be more catastrophic.
@tilmanmuenks3214
@tilmanmuenks3214 6 месяцев назад
So smooth! How do you like those bindings, if I may ask?
@cherrycarves
@cherrycarves 6 месяцев назад
Flow makes the lowest profile bindings and that means I can take more than a full centimetre out of my waist without suffering increased boot out potential when compared to any other binding I have ridden. I'm working on the fit and some custom modifications (these bindings are new to me) but overall the Flow NX2 Fusion is a very stiff, high performance, high quality binding.
@aarontanwx
@aarontanwx 6 месяцев назад
Why not the hybrid from Flow though? Do the fusion straps provide better support than the hybrid toe straps?
@cherrycarves
@cherrycarves 6 месяцев назад
@aarontanwx I don't know, I haven't tried the Hybrid. However, it's clear that the Fusion drops a few extra millimeters off the total length since it doesn't have a toe cap. I'm always fighting boot out and every millimeter counts!

I wanna ditch my knapton for a directional board now unless... a forward stance will work on my 13m 157cm 32cm waist twin.
@cherrycarves
@cherrycarves 6 месяцев назад
Ya it'll work fine. It's a hair wide for normal size feet but not outrageous. I'm riding size 9US/ Mondo 26.5 and I like a 30cm waist. Ditch the Knapton Twin if you mostly ride in one direction, keep it if you do a lot of switch. For any type or carving, Titanal boards like this JJA are far superior to glass/carbon when it comes to forgiveness, dampness and higher speeds. They're heavier and so not ideal for spins and jumps, but they dig deep in the snow and grip like nothing else can.
