I have to tell you I love trains. Even though I am blind I wish I had the vision to drive one of those locomotives. I pray that I get to ride on one at some point. My favorite company is CSX. But the bright side to all of this is I am going to be a ham radio operator. And my sister lives right across from the track so I get to listen to the train traffic. God bless these engineers.
I’m a conductor for a class 1. I can tell y’all you can’t simply like trains then work for a railroad. When I got hired on I really never thought about trains. If you say you like trains they will be leery to hire you. Those that do will go nuts when your phone rings on rest, when your in a hotel and can’t sleep, when you walk a train at night in the rain because a facility left a brake tied. However it’s a great job, you become family to your co-workers.
This is why I love working for HALLCON I run bnsf crews all over Washington state and about 95% of the crews I know are awsome plus I'm a railfan so it lets me get close to my hobby(:
5th Man long hours and you doint have a set schedule can be called anytime spend up to 12 hours driving it can also be fun at times specially whin you know the crews very well plus you get to see a lot of cool stuff from a railfan point of view.
Having driven truck for seven years, being an engineer has been one of those lifelong dreams of mine that I never really knew how to pursue, you know? Absolutely love the channel!
@@MegaGeorge1948 Whoever heard of a train with a steering wheel? Maybe you can't think of anything else to say so you just so you just state the obvious. A train can't stop on a dime either.
I think its awesome you took us along for the ride and to see the dash telemetry. I've been amused w trains since I was a kid. The last 4months its kicked back in gear and twice a month I go railfanning somewhere. I admire you and the time and service you put in for the railroad. #LIFEONTHERAILS
These are some of the best clips on RU-vid. Especially for those who kinda always wanted to do that, but never got around to it. I wish you could just post the whole ride sometimes. I love to hear the conversations and train talk in the cab. Mute language or names if you have to. I know it seems boring to you, but most railfans would watch all the way through. Thanks for posting what you do post!
I guess nowadays we can’t see videos like this until guys are retired! So many videos had to be taken down in the early days of RU-vid. We run GE locomotives like this on the iron ore trains in Australia. They import them from USA. They go from 35,000 tons to over 42,000 tons gross weight! I have a neighbor who is an engineer (train driver) for BHP and they had to force derail a 42,500 ton train last year because of the new ECP brake system. Cost them millions.
Love the video been missing the road now for a minute since they furloughed me. Thanks for letting me get my fix lol. Working at a shortline switch job as an engineer until my recall, Who knows how long that’ll be. Nothing like the road though can’t wait to get back.
I found your channel when I was searching for something else and couldn't hit that subscribe button quick enough. I am loving what I see, keep it up please! A railfan from North Carolina...
Oh Man You have My highly RESPECTS , just found You channel and this is the 2nd video I watched and are Awesome well job done Sir. While watching I feel that if I'm driving that locomotive is like surreal, Thank You for sharing.
Hey Mike, thanks for the ride. I've never seen the Cartersville/Acworth area from your perspective. Didn't realize how truly hilly this part of northern Atlanta is.
This is the 1st video of yours that I've watched and I just subscribed as I thought that it was cool and I'm reading in the comments that you're retired already? Man, I hope that you have a bunch of videos as I enjoyed this one. Enjoy your retirement and be safe, healthy and happy!
I took fuel to CSX tie gangs T2 T5 and T8 over the years when they were working on the tracks from Richmond VA to Garyersburg NC and from Franklin VA to the line tied into the main line. Delt with Tony Smith from Alabama most of the time. One of the nicest people you could know. He's been promoted now to crossing foreman now I think.
@@locomotiveengineermikebarn8042 Your Welcome and I'm a train enthusiast but I have a career I Aviation in Atlanta,I do trains spotting in Atlanta near Norfolk Southern Railroad Inman Yard.
Cool video! I watch CSX trains a lot on the Lineville Sub in Lagrange and on the Fitzgerald Sub in Junction City and sometimes in Cordele. My buddy is a CSX engineer, his area is from Waycross to Manchester and back.
EARTH ANGEL ♥️ SO nice to see you again!!💕🦹🏻♀️You do remind me of my good engineer friend Mike E, For years he engineered DOBO( Dover NH to Boston) I used to throw up a bag to him as he came through the crossing with homemade cookies 🍪 & T shirts!!! I knew & loved 💕👍them all! Mike has written a couple of books re; his life on the rails.( NH North lCoast) his 🚂 train. These crews were respectful towards me & they would all toot when they passed my 🏡 house, great bunch of guys!👍 Make more train videos!!!!Thanks for the ride, Sir!!👍🥰♥️🎃💕😍👍
I retired in 2016 after 41 years of railroading 36 years as engineer. Its a good job but you will miss a lot of family stuff. And never mind other things like crossing accidents and suicide by train, you have to have your mind right. Thing is if you are doing your job right, blowing the horn, running the right speed, it keeps the ghost off the bed post.
I love your video! And, I also love how much you obviously enjoy your job. What more can you ask for than going to work at a job you love? Thanks for sharing.
Such cool footage! Thank you for sharing! Once I finish my active duty contract with the USAF I plan on applying for conductor jobs with BNSF CSX and NS, hopefully one of them will pick me up
Ellis Jackson I’m doing Military mostly as a resume booster. I’ve tried applying to RRs previously and got rejected. I’ve been told they hire veterans no problem so fingers crossed for the future
I've been wishing that I could go on a ride on a freight train for several years now and I work at a place here in Oregon where I live called national frozen foods and every time a train goes by I always count how many engines the train has I've seen some CSX engines but up here it's mostly Union Pacific and Amtrack.
man i started driving trucks at 21 retired at 65 sometimes it was stressful bad weather worn out a lot of times i often wonder if it's like that with you guys it's mighty dark on the tracks at night
Hey Mike, Im getting ready to go off to training with NS at the Raleigh yard as Conductor! Im pretty excited! And more excited for the benefits and pension! I hope I can have a long career with no lay offs!
Congratulations! I've been wanting a job as part of the train crew. I applied at UP and past the test recently, but they ended up cancelling the class for new hires.
Hey like chichmem08 said have a backup plan because I too was hired in June of last year and got laid off June of this year and they had hired 8 people after me and we all got laid off to include about 7 people above me in seniority so far 15 of us have ended up in the street since April this year in Charleston sc. Definitely have a backup plan.
