This was a great demonstration of what drilling should look like. I like the point system that helps add that extra pressure to make it game-like. Thanks
One of your best tutorials, and one of the best I've seen ever. Basic drills, but crucial, and your tips along the way are simple but invaluable. More like these please! As a 4.0 player striving to reach a higher level, this is gold. Thank you!
Thank you for posting this. It's a fantastic resource for those of us who want to drill and aren't sure how to go about it. Now we do! I am an avid follower of your posts.
This format is 💯 - It’s easy to follow along and your realtime commentary is incredibly helpful. I dig how you interject tips mixed in with explanations when a shot doesn’t hit right too. Seeing the full/unedited session is also great because watching the repetition of the drilling demonstrates the kind of consistency needed (as well as shows different variations). Thanks for making/uploading this one!
This is yet another of your fantastic videos, thx. Super systematic with tons of varied play styles to learn from. Running commentary definitely adds value to the session. Absolutely loved it!
Nice work Jordan. Especially liked the transition zone work by both of you. I gots to work on that. I like these where you’re commenting on exactly what’s going on. Keep ‘em coming
Exactly what I needed! There are endless videos for a couple drills but it’s so helpful to have a comprehensive drilling session schedule to start with.
Great Video, Jordan. I did almost the same session w/ my brother last week which I got from your previous videos. Great to see what commitment is needed to be a high level. It’s really helped me get better at resetting speed ups etc from my opponents. Also, I recall from a previous podcast where it was you & Caden strictly answering questions and you talked about the mean comments people make. I did notice that you spin your paddle just before getting ready for a next point, but if that really bothered someone then they’re focusing on the wrong things and just trying to complain about stupid things. Don’t listen to them. Keep up the good work!
Great vid Jordan. Can you do a video just on transition drills? I find it is such a key part of the game at the higher levels and would like more ideas on drills to improve this aspect of my game!
As a lefty, my backhand dink is SIGNIFICANTLY stronger and more consistent than my forehand. As a player that ends up on the right side, you get forced to make that backhand super good. This doesn't apply to any other forehand shot other than the dink. I would assume this applies to most lefties.
Our drilling sessions actually do most of the same drills as this video. In addition, we always hit baseline ground stokes for at least a few minutes because that's the thing we enjoy the most - too bad ground strokes aren't super important in pickleball! We NEVER keep score. I'm enough better than my drilling partner that I'd pretty much always win and with us that just leads to frustration and resentment.
As an advanced player this is amazing to see how you drill and train to become better. Keep the comment coming! Any 3 person or 4 person drills would be great as well
Thanks for the video. Is your court in the middle of a neighborhood? I'm surprised since I've heard that neighbors typically complain about the noise when the courts are too close to houses.
Thoroughly enjoyed your video, Jordan. My drilling partners and I do something similar, although we are not as consistent as you two. On the volley drill, we do patterns: FH to FH; BH to BH; FH to BH; BH to FH, also playing to 5 points. Is this something you do as well?
What is your training schedule…how many days do you drill ( and how long) how many days do you play…how many days of rest…any weight training or gym days? Ty
@@BrionesPickleball got it…I am older and overdrill and play and get some juries…am looking for peak performance that’s why I asked….heard Riley Newman says he drills and hour plays an hour four times a week….. thought that was interesting……ty
@@BrionesPickleball I agree drill 2 hrs 3 days a week play one….thx good video…drills we do are similar…alot of hands and kitchen things. Thx always enjoy your videos
Nice video, when you are doing those volley warmups, does your grip shift on your forehand and your backhand volleys? OR are you staying in continental the entire time? Thanks.
Hey Briones, I always have a fear of getting the ball smacked really hard in the face / in the eye. What do you do when you have 4.5+ players targeting your face and you have no reaction time to move out of the way because you're hand battling in the kitchen. (there's a 50/50 chance they are going in or going long but you have no time to think about it). Or they're hitting a speed up really hard at you almost head hunting you. Sometimes if you try to stick your paddle in front of your face, it guards it, but it also blocks your vision. This is something I'm encountering with a lot with aggressive players.
Awesome!!! Always wondered how pros are actually drilling. Curious how often are you rotating between different drills on different session? Like 3rd shot drops, serve returns, drives and such.
My friend John & I love to drill together& are both signed up for phone video. Can we send a drill session or just one drill for evaluation? Additionally, when we play other teams, what would be an appropriate length video to submit? Love the videos & have been a long time follower & Martinez guy!
Awesome! Clips are limited to 2 minutes, so that we can analyze your game and work on 1 thing at a time. Send in anything you want, and we’ll direct you from there!
Huh. Seems to me you're using a lot more top spin on your dinks (especially on the cross-court and forehand shots) than I've seen you use in other videos?
@@BrionesPickleball Why is it not a priority at other levels? Or are you just saying that at lower levels you think it's too hard for players? What if the player is already very good at top spin?
@bretwallach9863 yes, lower levels usually don’t have topspin technique yet, which is ok. If you can hit topspin, do it. You’ll eventually have to learn the skill
how is this the best video. pickeball is the easiest sport. its a joke. briones acts as though he knows it all. he has won nothing and he has played long enough. his coaching is because he can t play at elite level so he post videos to you beginners and he acts like he knows everything.
