Watch President Obama's entire speech at a interfaith prayer service for the victims of the Boston Marathon bombings. For more on this, visit our site at www.cnn.com
Wonderful speech. I can hear his speech every single word, even I'm not good at English and I didn't read a script. I can symphathize with his and all Bostonians' feeling, even I'm living in Korea.
It's like the speech he is so far more important and effective compared to the things he's done to America Good and Bad, changes or mistakes he has made regardless
18:40 is exactly how you beat terrorism. I haven't agreed with with many of his policies, but this Irish-American Bostonian can safely say Barack Obama is the greatest president of my lifetime
I am sorry but I got here after watching Patriots Day....A very deep and meaningful movie for me.. My heart goes out to the victims, though it has been 3 years.....
This particular speech is not about politics or policies. This is about those who have been hurt, those who have died, and a city that is in shock. You cannot deny that President Obama did a tremendous job. I live near Boston, go there frequently, and this is what I needed to hear.
I was on exchange from Japan, I was in Oklahoma, I remember our teachers evacuating the school when it happened, students gathering at the local theater, hugging each other praying. I remember how the city erupted in cheers when the second suspect was caught
President Obama gave a great speech. He managed to portray strength and resolve, yet displayed compassion and sensitivity. Just what you'd hope for from your nation's leader.
I watched Patriots Day and now I'm watching this speech by Former President Obama on what happened 4 years ago. It's sad what a lot people lived through after the Boston Marathon Bombing. My prayers go out to all of the victims who were injured because of the bombings and i pray for the people who were killed on the day of the bombing and for the family Sean Collier, the police officer who was killed after the Boston Marathon Bombing
The President gives a speech in a prayer service for those affected by a terrorist act, and some people still cant help but take it as an opportunity to say that Obama is the face of cruelty and evil. That's whats wrong with this country, not the guy in the White House. Hes the best orator we've had in the White House in decades. Why not admire his good qualities instead of bring up more unnecessary negativity. #BostonStrong
I'm a hard core conservative and lifetime Republican but this moment here will forever earn President Obama my respect for how he gave my home city hope and strength again during our darkest hour. This was, in my opinion: his 2nd greatest speech after his address to the nation following Bin Laden's death. (Side note: at 18:31 Obama calls it: Red Sox won the World Series that year and the Bruins came within 2 games of a Stanley Cup) lol
Pats also won the next super bowl. The sports teams were playing for something else. And thank you for not being ignorant like most people in these comments. You don't have to like his policy but he was a true leader and a great public speaker.
this is a man who truly understands the fabric of what it truly means to be an american. it amazes me how he able to articulate exactly what the usa stands for
Will also say that I live in Illinois which anyone who knows of the state of Illinois knows that they can’t have a decent governor so if I were to be able to afford it I would seriously up and move from Illinois and move to Boston because that is where I feel like I would be able to do some good personally in the sense that I could really help a community in a time like this.
try turning on your HD...bud. his eyes get more and more watery as his speech goes on and at 18:13-18:15 you can clearly see a glistening tear at the corner of his eye
just finished watching patriots day and i’d like to say man, it’s so difficult to be president, but obama was amazing. i sincerely hope that trump does not get voted again.
Oh and just to let you know, I'm a high school history teacher and I teach Current Events as well as several US History classes. So I stay pretty well informed. Hope you have a great day and learn some respect for your country.
I thought this was a fabulous speech spiritedly delivered by a President I admire. This was a unique speech written only yesterday specifically for the people of Boston by a speech writer born at St. Margaret's Hospital in Dorchester, MA. He wrote it from his heart, with his own 8y.o. son & 5y.o. daughter in mind. Put your nastiness away. Today was about the optimism & strength that healing & recovery brings. May you all find your unique need for healing of heart & soul.
No politician writes their own speeches all the time. However, President Obama is known for writing a lot of his. Wth does that have to do with the sentiment and purpose of the occasion??
I'm from Boston and it was very personal. It's probably a good thing we don't know who did this yet cuz I think the entire city of Boston would come after them.
doesn't really matter, he could easily write this (we all could), having spent quality time here. I dont think theres any doubt, We Bostonians know he's speaking from the heart. It's obvious to us, it's deeply personal to him. Liberal Boston area is beautiful, special (esp in the darkness of terrorism), & beloved, he gets it. Anyone who has spent quality time here knows, boston is easy to love & defend. Boston STRONG!
Have to say that even to this day my heart is with the people of Boston and that if I was him when he says in his speech not here in Boston a couple times I would have amended that to say not here in Boston not here in this country. Would have also quoted the sergeant of the Watertown please department at the time of this event when he said basically something along the lines of if you terrorize our people and our cities don’t be surprised if we come back at you. I know that Mr. Obama said that people who do these kinds of actual face justice but I would’ve still have said what I said in the previous sentence.
No negative posts can take away from our pride. We need to come together. Not pull apart. Remember, united we stand. Not as democrats or republicans. But as citizens of this nation. Despite our differences, we are all in the same boat. Like it or not.
Like Obama or not this entire speech wasn't about politics or anything having to do with it. This was about Boston...this was about a great American city that suffered a tragic wound to it's core. This was about the families of those three people that died senselessly. Please don't turn this thread into something about Obama whether or not you like him, what he did here today what he did with this speech was touch the hearts of those who needed it. AWESOME JOB OBAMA. Help us get our spirits back
I definitely agree with everything you say there. As much as I rant sometimes, and as irritated as I get at some people, I know that there's not a simple button to push or road I can go down that will fix it all. I just want everyone to be aware of exactly that, that we need something extraordinary to happen to fix this all. I'm just a little anxious as to what that will be. Sorry if I offended you.
It's so sad that some people are more concerned about who wrote this speech than the reason why this speech had to be wrote! It's such a non important issue given that people have lost their lives to another senseless tragedy! If you don't like our president then please vent your hatred elsewhere, this really isn't the place or time for more hatred.
Are you really that small minded? Obama works closely with his writers and writes many of his speeches. Do you think he has time to write everything? Even Mitt Romney was big enough to praise this speech. And a great speech it was in of time great need. Let the healing begin.
WHY CAN'T PEOPLE KEEP IT SIMPLE BY COMMENTING ON THE ISSUE??? I CAME HERE TO SEE WHAT PEOPLE REALLY THINK ABOUT THE SPEECH...WHAT I GOT IT'S JUST INSULTS....BE CIVIL, PLZZZZ.
He does write his speeches or contributes significantly to them as much as any other president and more! Stop trying to take unnecessary shots and keep America divided!
This is not a time to make political statements. This is a time to come together and reflect on what happened. Please keep your negativity to yourself.
listen to what the president said in his speech. have faith in your fellow man, that includes having faith that americans will continue to be open minded and not judge based on religion
Honestly don't believe anyone else wrote it. He lived here, met michelle here.... It's hard to believe 2 young guys who were priviledged enough to grow up in & hurt THEE most liberal place in the USA. Anyone who knows this place knows this is one the few places they can be truly accepted & listened to. This place has always had a university style attitude towards ALL opinions! That's not something you lob a bomb at! Thats CAVE MAN BLIND HATE FOR ATTN. 1 LIFE
Also have to say that the picture of little eight-year-old Martin Richard really got to me in the photo where he is expressing a wish to have there be no more violence and instead peace more or less really have to say that got to me because from my opinion if there was more peace than violence in this country and perhaps this planet would be a lot better off. I know that as long as there is a Republican and Democrat political party there’s always going to be disagreements that people have with another but the way I see it it shouldn’t really matter because at the end of the day whether we’re a criminal poor rich famous or not famous we are all more or less Americans and that should be what we can count on is that people who don’t know us can still have compassion for other people even if the person is complete stranger as Mr. Obama says in his speech about people that are complete strangers opening their homes giving them rides back to find their families. If you really think about it like I said at the end of the day whether we are a Republican or Democrat we are still not only Americans at the end of the day but we are still also gods children and as the song called bleed the same by Mandisa pretty much sums up that much in her song which for those of you who have not heard this song I would highly recommend giving it a listen at least once because that song is really awesome.
I am a Bostonian! I am not affiliated with the president or the Democratic Party !! But I love this speech and have shared it and believe in it!!! Great job Obama!!
Americans should be proud of obama and stop trash talking him. You should have a president like mine that runs out from a fight that spends 2 times more than a king while the people is starving. ( Portugal)
give credit where credit is due .....to his writers.....especially when he came up on the podium and said HELLOOOO BOSTON!!!! like he was at one of his pep rallies or a fundraiser...yeah such compasion....what a show
As America mournes its losses we must take into account our ability as Americans, to come back after a tragety such as the Bombing of Boston. Yet not only is it the bombing that tests the peoples resiliance, but it is the losses that we have faced over the past twenty years. From the capturing of Sadam, to the attacks on 9/11, to the killing of Osam bin Laden. Americas people are strong, and Americas people are resiliant. We will not stand and idely watch as our people are killed.
