I was a big WWF fan at this time, and a girl in my class was a WCW fan. We agreed to watch 1 episode of each other's show to see which was better. More than anything else though I remember all the standing around the live audience did during the Flair segments. The segments would be thrown to AND followed by commentary which you can’t hear when you’re there live. They would happen following or before commercial breaks. Some were back from commercial to commentary, throw to Flair segment, back to commentary to another commercial break. There were times we stood there for 15 minutes without anything happening in the arena.

My son Logan, when he was little, thought Billy Gunn's theme song said, "I'm a nice man! I'm a nice maaaaan" 😂 I didn't feel the need to correct him.😊

Hell more than Sting winning the title, what amazed me about it was that it was a clean victory too. No weapons, no cattle prods, no 5 NWO run ins, etc. Definitely was a refreshing glass of water for WCW at the time.

Absolutely awesome match. If WCW had kept the belt on Sting and given him a good run at this point I think it would have given the company a big shot in the arm. The fans always loved the Stinger but his late 97 - early 98 title run was a mess and when he won the beltagain later in 1999 it was as a heel... which didn't work as the fans still cheered for him anyway.

This was the first ever Nitro I saw. It was recorded on a VHS tape and given to me by my grandmother. Good times! At the time I didn't get the DDP/Sting match but now, especially knowing how few actual finishes we saw in big name matches on Nitro, it's awesome.
